Chateau / Country House, 4 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 10 max)
About Chuck Kirschner
Our family has lived in San Luis Obispo since the mid- 1950's and we purchased this ranch in the early 1970's. After retiring from his medical practice, our father built his dream house on the ranch and moved there to raise British White Park Cattle. We have decided to offer the property as a vacation rental because of its unique character and ideal location near the City of SLO.
Chuck Kirschner purchased this Chateau / Country House in 1970
What makes this Chateau / Country House unique
The single most striking aspect of the property is the serenity one experiences while there. The only sounds you're likely to hear are the wind in the oak trees, cawing crows, squawking bluejays, the occasional scream of a hunting red-tail hawk , maybe a coyote in the evening and the distant sound of a train as it makes its way up or down Cuesta Grade. The outside world feels very far away even though, in reality, the City of SLO is just a short five minute drive away.

Nice Home Rural Beauty
Tough to find even with written instructions. So probably don’t want to arrive the first day after dark. Very secluded and surrounded by nature. Except to see deer, wild turkeys and other bird life.
The home itself offers beautiful traditional luxury as well as beautiful views. Go for easy/moderate walks to breath fresh country air. Well equipped kitchen. Comfortable bedding. Suitably equipped and generously sized bathrooms. Great gathering places inside and out. Games, books, internet available, etc. plenty of parking adjacent to house.
Perfect place to tuck in for a few days and relax.
We love this home!
Perfect home for a large family gathering. Our son got married Labor Day weekend in Cayucos and the rehearsal dinner was in Pismo Beach. All easily accessible from this property. The home has 4 bedrooms. A master off the dining room has a queen bed and a bathroom with shower. Upstairs there are three bedrooms. The bedroom with the king bed has an attached bathroom plus the adjoining laundry room. The other two upstairs bedroom guests would most likely go downstairs to shower and use the commode. But that would depend on your family or guest situation.
The large bathroom downstairs has a tub, shower, a makeup vanity & commode.
Plenty of towels for everyone, very soft sheets and a huge sectional sofa in the living area. Large dining table inside or if you prefer to sit outside there are several outdoor dining tables too. Lovely wisteria growing on an arbor that provides shade on the patio.
Kitchen is well stocked with plates, pans, serving bowls and coffee maker plus a Keurig and a blender for making drinks.
Everyone enjoyed themselves and the property exceeded our expections.
Best Girls Weekend Getaway!!!! This property is gorgeous!!! and was perfect for our girls trip! The house was spacious, had everything we could have needed, and wasn't far from downtown SLO (about a 6-8 minute uber/lyft ride). The owner was super easy to work with and I would highly recommend this property and look forward to coming back, again!
A stay like no other
This property continues to be lovingly owned by the same family for over 40 years. The 450 acres on which it sits is just magnificent, and even better, is situated near, and adjacent to other ranch land and Cal Poly's immense natural preserves as well, making this property feel just gigantic. Each night, we moved our chairs around at sunset catching different views of this great valley. Walking the grounds and its different country trails was also fun. Train lovers will enjoy seeing far away on the hillside the Surfliner Amtrak making its way north to Seattle. It was so picturesque, it looked like a model train lay out. Animal lovers also need not wait long to spot deer, wild turkeys, and so on. The home itself is charming, but rustic. As promised, despite being there in August, it was chilly in the evening and A/C was never needed (which is good because it doesn't have it). Also as promised, the caretakers of the property who reside in two different residences far from the main residence are courteous, polite and invisible. If you want a real country experience, far away from any civilization or people, staying here is just a wonderful experience. Most importantly, we want to the thank the Kirschner family who continues to own this property for allowing us to rent their home for a weekend. As opposed to all of the other places we have stayed in SLO while visiting our daughter at Cal Poly, this was truly unique and absolutely unforgettable!
Nice property sadly not worth the price point
I’d like to start by saying Chuck was excellent at communicating and the booking process and check in was seamless. He was always available and making sure we were settled in and had all the information we needed. It is a sweet well loved family home in a nice secluded spot.
A note about the bathrooms which is not mentioned in the description.. one is attached to the lower bedroom. The one that looks like a master bath is actually the causeway to the backyard. The third bathroom is the only one upstairs and can only be accessed via one of the bedrooms. The layout is a definite head scratcher. We were 3 families with young kids so whoever took the bedroom upstairs with the only attached bathroom had to settle for less privacy as we didn’t want the kids taking the stairs in the middle of the night to use the bathroom downstairs Additionally one person in our party broke out in hives immediately after hanging out on the upholstered couches.
Sadly, I have to give it a less than average rating because we felt the listing in its entirety is not worth the price of around a grand per night after taxes fees etc .
While we will not be returning here, I’d like to thank Chuck for his hospitality.
My family truly enjoyed the home - it was beautiful, clean and comfortable. But the location was by far the best! It was so quiet set back in the hills - we hardly wanted to do anything but relax in the backyard and enjoy the view. We'll definitely be back!
