About Kim Kirby
Kim Kirby is your host at Pennock Island. Kim is originally from England and came to Ketchikan in 1990, kayaking here from Juneau a trip that lasted three months. Paddling the Inside Passage was the start of a long love affair with Southeast Alaska and Pennock Island offered a wonderful way to continue to live close to the water with a few more amenities! Kim started and ran a kayak company in Ketchikan for 12 years before finding the perfect island getaway on Pennock Island in 2005. She has five acres on Pennock and enjoys sharing the island lifestyle with guests visiting from around the world. She has her US Coastguard Captain's license and a flying license and enjoys float plane flying around the local area. She is happy to share with you what makes Alaska so special, be it on the water fishing, hiking the ridge tops or beach combing.

Why Kim Kirby chose Ketchikan
Being on the water in SE Alaska is pure joy and living an island lifestyle with no roads means you are on the water all the time. Forget the stress of cars and roads and noise. Here you live a life set to the rythym of wind and tides. The dog can run free and is the alarm bell when visitors show up at the front door, which is the dock that stretches across the tidal beach. Snug Harbor House is the last inhabited house on the grid. Beyond is the wilder back side where you can walk the beach for about a mile with no other person in sight. The interior of the island is untouched and is great to explore following deer trails through the rainforest and muskeg. People are pretty scarce on the island and it is always a joy to share time chatting if you bump into one another in the bay or along the beaches.
What makes this House unique
Snow's Cove on Pennock Island offers all the advantages of living a life without roads and cars and all the benefits of a town within a short five minute boat ride. Privacy, peace, wildlife and woodland walks and just plain messing about in a boat are all here.

This property is perfect for fishing on your own in Ketchikan! Easy to go north or south. The accommodations are clean and the kitchen and the bedrooms setup is perfect for a big group. Kim was amazing in her communication when we had questions and really went the extra mile to make sure our Ketchikan experience was over the top. We are already excited for our trip here next year!
Kim's place is lovely, plenty of space for a large group and a wonderful kitchen for cooking and eating together. The beds were comfortable and the location is beautiful. Kim is a great host, quick to respond when questions came up. We had a wonderful time on Pennock and hope to return!

Awesome Location, Everything You Need And Then Some!
Just back from our first trip to Ketchikan. Won't be our last.
Our group ranged in age from early 70's down to 9 months old. My wife and I, and my wife's recently widowed sister, made up the oldsters. Then our son and daughter-in-law, and the three grandchildren, two girls ages 6, 2 1/2, and the 9 month old baby boy. No complaints from anyone, and the two girls really liked the place: Tide pools, big TV and Bald Eagles.
The bedrooms were quite comfortable and the two bathrooms more than adequate (and if you require a shower that will accommodate the tallest of us, this is your place). The kitchen would rate as extremely well laid out with a spacious preparation table in the middle. Lots of plates and bowls, coffee mugs, glasses and silverware; all the needed cooking tools, mixing bowls, etc. Even a BBQ on the deck and an industrial strength crab boiler down by the beach.
For the fisherman there is a fillet table, vacuum packers with bags and a large chest freezer, everything for us do-it-yourselfers. The supplied fishing tackle is of reasonably good quality. Several crab pots and a few shrimp pots are provided. We ate a lot of crab and a decent amount of shrimp, but thank the Lord my son was along to pull the pots. The girls excelled at crab measuring duty.
And thanks to Kim Kirby who met us at the airport as we picked up our luggage, gave us an orientation cruise as we headed to the house, remained available throughout our stay, and then dropped us at the airport again when time to go. Thanks again Kim.
