It was a great stay and we really appreciated how communicative the host was. The home was beautiful and the location was great. The haunted house and the Japanese garden were such fun bonuses.

While Tony is a very amenable host, the property isn't well maintained & the description isn't accurate. It's listed as 2 baths. However, 1 is outside the house. That's not mentioned. It was chilly & rainy & you had to get wet to get to the outside bath the motion detector light was out where needed. Had to take cell phone to see. Put my toiletries on back of tank - tank was covered in dust. Shower curtain is torn & partially off rod.Inside Bath, tub is moldy & there was a ring in the toilet, not masked by the blue Tidy Bowl stuff. Dust is everywhere - on glasses & bottles in kitchen, on tea caddy box, furniture. Major furniture pieces were dusted but plenty w/ heavy dust. Books all over made place smell like a used bookstore. The place is so full of personal stuff that there's little room for guests things. Febreze spray bottles in every room - not a good sign. The place is quirky & would be cool if it was clean & not packed w/ stuff. If you like Meow Wolf, you might like this place. I love Meow Wolf, but the dust & clutter & poor condition are a turnoff. The reviews were mainly 10/10. I'm gonna be honest to save guests from our experience.Beds - some comfortable, some not. Had to go thru 4 coffee mugs to find 1 w/out stains or caked food. There was a dirty bath towel & cleaning items hanging right outside our bedroom door. I moved the towel a hall closet - gross! I could go on but you get the picture. Back garden sold me but it was too cold & rainy to use.
We really had a good time. It was an unusual house, eccentric and fun, and filled with really cool art. It worked great for our group and I would happily stay there again!
The house is so fun! Tony's art is everywhere and is lovely. There are so many thoughtful touches and everything you might need. The backyard is wonderful and clearly a labor of love. The only downside is that the house is not as clean as I would have expected it to be. The only downside to this is that
Tony was awesome. My sister and her friends fell in love with the tortoise. Beautiful art in all the the rooms. Serene back yard and meditation area. We really enjoyed playing the games he had in the living room. Would love to stay here again.
We rented this house for my son’s graduation. It was a fantastic weekend. The Japanese yard was amazing and we found new things to ponder at every turn! Shelly the tortoise put on quite the show and enjoyed lots of strawberries. Tony the owner was very informative and everything in the house and the art had a story.
It was okay! Owner was a nice guy and the property was cool. Bugs in some rooms and his housekeeper went into labor apparently so he had to clean the house. House was okay clean
Me and my friends came to this place for my bestfriends birthday and everyone was in shock on just how beautiful everything was in the house, all of his paintings and even his tortoise shelly was awesome
This is probably the best property I've stayed at in Austin, and I've stayed in about a dozen Central Texas properties. Incredibly eccentric in a good way! The owner is an incredible artist and you are reminded of his talent in every room, with finished pieces or paintings that are works in progress. And the the backyard has had some serious love poured into it, with a heavily Japanese design influence pervasive through the structures, Zen gardens, standalone tea room, and multiple areas lounge and relax amongst your live-in cat and tortoise co-occupants. I will be returning here the next time I need a relaxing break!
This was a really cool place to stay. Though it may not be for everyone and the layout was a bit strange, we really enjoyed our stay. 10 adults can sleep comfortably, including 2 elderly grandmas. The backyard is a paradise and Shelly (the Turtle) was so cool. We had a blast feeding her. Tony was a lovely host and answered all our questions. He even gave us suggestions for the area and accommodated our last-minute late check-out request.
Tony is the man! A true artist who takes pride in the work he has done with his property. I fought with myself to even write this review because this place is Austins hidden GEM. A true retreat for people wanting the full Austin experience. Tony was very accommodating with our large group of 9 guests. We were very comfortable the whole time and felt right at home. Each room is an experience with his art and to cap it all off the backyard is a sanctuary in itself. We bbq, had a fire pit, and enjoyed the overall vibe of this property. Were all artists ourselves so that was a major PLUS. We will be back for sure.

Accessible location, comfortable home
Pros: Easy to get around Austin. The house is comfortable. We loved the turtle and enjoyed the backyard. My 3 year old daughter loved the place. Tony was very welcoming and easy to reach. Cons: place needs dusting and we had to wash things in the kitchen before we used them. We had a little bit of rain and didn’t like seeing 2 big cockroaches inside the house. Overall, good for our needs.

Anyone in Texas will tell you that Palmetto Bugs (a type of cockroach) will get into the house, particularly after rain. They don't breed in the house and they die in a day or so. But you won't find one open crack in my house, I keep things fairly sealed for just this reason, someone not knowing about the local nuisances.
And families need to realize that an $80 cleaning fee doesn't include an entire house free of dust. And all dishes are clean, we have a very good dishwasher for that. I think these guests were a bit over-zealous in how clean they expect things. Most areas are cleaned very well, and it takes a cleaning crew from 7-2pm to clean.

Very awkward layout
Well. We booked this place because of the glowing reviews so we felt we needed to tell the truth about this place. The art is very cool. The yard is nice. The neighborhood seems safe and is quirky. Really nothing much to walk to, but I learned Austin is a place where you drive everywhere. You can tell it’s well loved and inhabited by a creative. However. In order to access the yard you have to walk through either the bathroom or a bedroom. The house is so cluttered it could never truly be clean. We made it through the long weekend but we all could hardly wait to be out of there.
This property was very enjoyable. Tony, the owner, is an artist who clearly has spent years loving this house, decorating it with his art and a collection of items he loves and has collected from his travels. From the art on the walls to the Japanese garden to Shelly the tortoise you never run out of things to look at, corners to explore, and places to relax. We had three different generations of family staying at the house and there was literally something for everyone to enjoy from flat screen tvs to antique and vintage furniture. We enjoyed the living room which is not large but very comfortable with plenty of seating for everyone as well as time spent sitting in the gardens in the evenings. If you are looking for a modern day cookie cutter home this is not for you but if you are looking for something distinctly Austin then this is your place. Thanks Tony for the great tour and for sharing your home and art!!

Host with Most
A group of 10 of my friends and I stayed here while celebrating my 30th birthday. Tony is great! When I say he's the host with the most, I mean IT! He welcomed us with snacks, a personalized birthday sign along with giving us tons of Austin sights to see info. His place had more than enough sleeping room, where part of the group stayed in his bungalows. The back yard is ideal for enjoying music, drinks & your friends. Once you are in the backyard, you won't want to leave, actually when you go the house in general, you won't want to leave. Just a super chill homey place with the owners positive energy flowing throughout the place. The house is filled with artwork and great detail throughout. He had about everything you'd need, including grill to cookout, bicycles, games & the ultimate patio. We felt right at home and it was hard for us to leave! When we head back to Austin we will be back to visit Shelly :)
