About Mike Rhodes
Aloha, After decades of worldwide travel, I decided that it was time to slow down (a bit :-). Having lived abroad, and liking many places in which to live, I chose Hawaii because I'm American and wanted that things be simple and familiar--while still being different enough to hold my interest. I hope that you, too, find this about Hawaii.
Why Mike Rhodes chose Waikiki
There are only two condominium building closer to Waikiki Beach (the buildings lining the beach are all hotels and condotels). The location is very convenient to everything.

Best Kept Secret in Waikiki
I spend about 10 weeks a year in VRBO rental units in Waikiki…This is one of my favorites.
The location is perfect. It feels like you’ve been dropped there by helicopter.
The building is small and modest looking ... and almost disappears in the high value realestate.
The unit itself is very efficiently laid out and well appointed, to make the most of a small space.
Everything you need…and nothing you don’t.
Everything functioned properly and the bed/bedding was very comfortable.
The balcony, with floor to ceiling sliding doors and fairly expansive view makes it feel much larger.
I barely used the air conditioning, with fresh air flowing nicely.
The walls are solid and beside the typical noise of urban life, it was quiet and still.
Mike (the owner) was super attentive and friendly.
Many owners hire property management agencies.
They are rarely so quality / service minded as you’ll find here.
For couples who value location and access over luxury, this place is the best kept secret in Waikiki.
Mahalo for taking the time to write such a thoughtful review. It was a pleasure to have you as a guest. I hope that you come to see us again on island.
We had a nice stay in Waikiki, relaxing and enjoying the Hawaiian ambiance.
The studio condo in the Seashore building was well furnished for our month-long stay. The condo is clean and well kept up. The bed is very comfortable. The views of Diamond Head and the ocean were great. We could see humpback whales spouting in the water and sailboats floating by. Mike is very accommodating and a pleasure to talk to. We would recommend staying in his condo for any length of time.
Much mahalo for taking time to write a review, especially with the details that many people researching a vacation rental want to know. I hope that you're able to come visit us again on island. Aloha, Mike
One block from beach.
Enjoyed being near the beach, restaurants, and shops.
Much mahalo for taking the time to write a review, and for highlighting the convenient location of the condo--so close to the beach :-)
Room was clean, bed was great, kitchen had all we needed
The host Mike was very nice and helpful. What we did not like:the neighbour's entrance was cluttered up with beach paraphernelia and shoes and the entrance to the building was tired looking plus the entrance door did not seem very safe.
Our main problem:we found the whole booking procedure with HomeAway very convoluted and cumbersome. Our experience with another booking site was so much better.Besides,we felt nickeled and dimed. What seemed excessive was the extra charge of a wire transfer fee plus having to pay for damage insurance and on top a damage deposit to the owner. As a result,I don't think we will be very inclined to book through HomeAway again.
The guests are sweet people, and I tried to address their concerns to the best of my ability. I thank them for acknowledging the good quality of the condo itself.
Although I agree unattractive, the neighbor leaving his boogie boards and slippers and sand in the hallway by his door isn't a violation of the House Rules for the building--so there wasn't a lot that I could do. The building's lobby is secured by non-duplicatable and registered keys (the deposit that I charge for the stated "Key/Security Deposit," is mostly to cover the expense of ordering replacements from the building should they become lost. I returned the guests' deposit within days of their departure). I think that the only possible safety issue would be letting people "piggyback" into the building. The Resident Manager patrols the common areas several times during the day and night. I don't want to criticize the guests' perceptions--I truly like them--but want let future guests know that we have don't have a history of derelict people being in the building.
I admitted to the guest my part in the convoluted booking process. It is because I haven't yet converted to the HomeAway reservation system, as they have become more integrated in the process. I understand that I will have to move over to their system when I renew in December/January, so this won't be an issue in 2019 forward.
In the end, the guests wrote me that they enjoyed their vacation and were sorry to leave the island--as said, they are nice people--so that is the most important thing I think.
Safe travels to all. Mike Rhodes
A great little place to stay.
This is a small condo but suited us just fine. Not a place to entertain that is for sure. It is close to the action. I would not recommend the Mexican cockroach restaurant next door it does not exist on repeat business but on location. We would happily stay again but I would ask that the air freshener? in the elevator be replaced with no air freshener it was over powering.
Mahalo for the review. I agree with you on the "La Cucharacha" restaurant next door. I thought that I was just being a snob because I'm from the American Southwest, so glad to know that I'm not alone. Unfortunately, I haven't found a good Mexican restaurant in Hawaii. I'll give the resident manager the heads up on toning down the air freshener in the elevator. Thanks again.
It is a great little unite in such a good spot, close to everything!!!
We enjoyed our stay, very comfortable and walking distance to everything and public transport. We hire a car for a couple of days from just across the road, that was great fun to explore the island.
Mahalo for taking the time to write a review, and letting guests know if the convenient location. Most everything that you wish is walking distance (or easy ride on the city buses). A car is good especially if you want to go to the north shore or central Oahu.
Nestled between the Waikiki Resort Hotel and the Hyatt Regency Resort, The Seashore is a 3 minute walk to the beach and very close to everything that Waikiki has to offer. There are restaurants, shopping, grocery, beach, and all bus lines all within 5 minutes. Kapiolani Park, offering a vast array of of recreation possibilities (jogging, playing fields, hiking, gardens, the Honolulu Zoo, the Waikiki Shell and aquarium) is just 7 minutes walk. To say that this is a convenient location is an understatement.
