About this property
Dragonfly - Unique, tranquil retreat in Grand Marais, MN
Dragonfly is a beautiful new timber frame home designed and built by master timber framers from the North Shore. With 2 private entrances it’s perfect for 2 couples, families of 4-7, North House Folk School students, artists, or North Shore adventurers who either want two self-contained units or one larger shared space. Situated on 3 acres of secluded birch, aspen, cedar and fir, it’s 1.5 miles away from downtown Grand Marais yet tucked away in the tranquility and privacy of the North Woods.
Though the house is in the Grand Marais city limits and close to downtown, it is completely secluded and quiet. It is a quarter mile drive down a private gravel road off Highway 61 at the western edge of town. The newly completed paved bike trail to Cut Face Creek, and paved bike path into town, are at the top of Ravenwood Road. Up Yonder at the Harbor Light is across the street from the turn-off, and Putt ‘n Pets minigolf is next door. Down the hill into Grand Marais, there are many restaurants ( Angry Trout Cafe, Gunflint Tavern, Voyageur Brewing, Sven and Ole’s Pizza, South of the Border Cafe, Blue Water Cafe, My Sister’s Place, Superior Creamery, Cascade Restaurant (southwest along Highway 61 in the Cascade River area), and Sydney’s Frozen Custard), as well as Java Moose Espresso Cafe , and several food trucks (The Crooked Spoon, Taste of India, The Bad Seed, and Shook Smoothies). The Cook County Co-Op, Johnson’s Foods and Gene’s IGA all provide a wide selection of groceries. Nearby activities: Hiking/Snowshoeing: Pincushion Mountain, Onion River, Judge C.R. Magney State Park, Oberg Mountain, Carlton Peak, Mount Josephine, Kadunce River, Temperance River, Cascade River, and Eagle Mountain (tallest point in MN!) Downhill Skiing: Lutsen Mountains Cross Country Skiing: Pincushion Mountain, Cascade, and Sugarbush trails Golf: Grand Marais Municipal golf course, Superior National golf course Thrift stores: Oddz and Endz, First & Second Thrift Store Other attractions: North Shore Winery & Ciderhouse (west of Grand Marais towards the Lutsen Mountain ski area), Naniboujou Lodge (15 min drive east of Grand Marais toward Grand Portage).
