Mahalo and Aloha 🏝️
Lovely location overlooking the bay. Well stocked kitchen, very comfy beds, convenient location. No air conditioning and that generally is not an issue, but the middle bedroom can get a little stuffy. We bought a small fan and the issue was resolved. The owner was excellent with communication. Would stay here again.
The property had a great location for Hilo and east side activities. Our family struggled with the lack of air conditioning and the hot temps for July. Most windows/doors opened, but with the Hilo rains it made it tough leaving them open. There were no fans in any bedroom, so the only air flow occurred if you left the windows open. The house is older, so there are quirks to be expected.
We enjoyed our stay overall. The house was nice, comfortable, and clean. It was an older home, built in 1950 with updates. The disappointed, un-updated factor was that there was no air conditioning. This was not disclosed in the Vbro description. Staying cool on warm August nights was difficult. With no central air, bedroom ceiling fans would have been wonderful, but those were lacking. The master bedroom had a beautiful walkout deck, but with no sliding screen door, we were unable to feel the cool ocean breeze in the evening. First floor had sliding glass doors facing the ocean, but again, we were unable to feel the cool ocean breeze because of no sliding screen doors. We could not keep the sliding glass doors open in the evening due to bugs flying into the house, so the house temperature became very warm. Parking was very tight in the driveway with the owner's pickup parked in the driveway. The parking area had a very limited turn-around space, making it difficult to maneuver the cars. We were a party of 8 so we had two cars. We had to back down the long, curvy drive from the road to make an easier exit out of the driveway. The house's fence line pictured on the description had a very different appearance during our visit. There was a lot of plant overgrowth intertwined along the fence line significantly obscuring the beautiful ocean view. For the price we paid, I was disappointed in the house temperature and our inability to stay cool in the evenings.
