On the Rocks Thanksgiving Break

The property and the management team were outstanding. What pleasant surprise to find a Pecan pie waiting for us on the counter. Perfect for a small party wanting the hillside overlook experience.

Outdated but functional

You get what you pay for and we are not upset at the condition of this rental. The owners have owned this cabin for a very long time as stated in their welcome letter. I highly recommend they do some simple renovations. Replace the carpet as they are old and nasty. Basically everything is aged to early 90’s. With that being said, it was clean and roomy for our family. The driveway is very steep and there is only parking for one vehicle.

Great View!

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The driveway is a little steep and so are the outside stairs, but the chalet was clean and we had a nice stay.

Great relaxing getaway

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was more than happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We stayed for 7 nights and it was amazing! The views are breathtaking! Just a warning to be prepared for a steep driveway. 4x4 is best! Just make sure to keep the driveway clean of leaves and you should be fine :)

On The Rocks - love the view!

On The Rocks has some pros and cons. We loved the view of the mountains from the deck & the upstairs was very cozy and comfortable. We were excited to see a bear walk across the driveway one night! However, downstairs where the bedrooms are located is very musty smelling. It really needs a dehumidifier. If you have allergies you may not want to stay in this house. The house has a very steep driveway and there are 39 steps from the driveway up to the house. The house could definitely use some updating. That being said we did enjoy our time there as a family and loved the peace & quiet. We were able to see 4th of July fireworks from the deck!

Gatlinburg Getaway - Less Than It Seems

Pros: The Location is great, 10 min. to Gatlinburg and to the Great Smokey NP. Cons: This is an older house in need of renovation and a clean out. The entire building has a slight lean to it (lay a crayon or ball down on the porch and it will run off, every time). Over time, this also makes for uncomfortable sleeping. The driveway is extremely steep, would be very hard for sedans to climb especially if wet. This carpeted areas of this house had not been cleaned prior to our arrival. There were French fry bits on the floor in the master, Doritos crumbs and bag in the guest room, goldfish crackers and leaves, etc in the living room. The nominally nice view of the mountains has a bunch of power lines running right across it that were air-brushed down in the listing photos. That was extra disappointing. The stair access to the bedrooms (below) is right between the kitchen and the front door. It's truly bizarre design, ugly and inconvenient. The stairs open to a non-enclosed washing machine area (good luck doing laundry and sleeping at the same time). Also, there are no fans in either bedroom (though there are in the kitchen) so keep in mind for warmer months. All of these deficiencies would have been easier to stomach, maybe even kinda funny, if we weren't still paying premium rates for a 2-bedroom. This listing should be half that. Really disappointing experience.

Fantastic views

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was very unhappy with the location. I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We have stayed at other properties with Mountain Laurel Chalets that we liked better. This place has amazing views, the best views of any other place we have stayed. The cabin was a nice size. The furniture was comfortable and so were the beds. The cabin was clean for the most part. There were some negatives. The kitchen has some broken appliances, the counter top is broken and so are the draws to the refrigerator. There was sticky goo on some of the silverware and dishes but we cleaned them. Basically the kitchen and the deck needs a remodel. The worst part of this chalet is the driveway and stairs. We knew there were a lot of stairs based on other reviews, however, they didn't mentioned there was no hand rail up to the cabin or the really steep stairs in the cabin to get to the bedrooms. Also our vehicle has no problem driving up and down the mountain we have done it for 8 years, but this driveway is almost vertical. It took us 3 tries to get up it every time. Once it rained, it was nearly impossible to get up. The cabin we shared a driveway with also had the same problem. So just make sure you are prepared for that. I wouldn't recommend this for small kids or elderly that have trouble with steps. I don't know what kind of vehicle would make it up the drive in 1 try, next door had an suv and we had a crossover with 4 wheel drive. The air conditioner broke but within a couple of hours maintainance was out and fixed it. Loved the customer service. But again if you want fantastic views this cabin is just for you.

Needs updates and leaks

The king size bed was old, and the wife and I kept rolling toward the center of the bed. Both of oir backs were hurting every morning. During the rain storm there was an inch of water in the downstairs bathroom. It appeared to be seeling in through the walls. There was a storm water drain that dumps.out on the front concrete stairs. We had to wade through a river all the way down the stiars while packing the car. It was no longer raining at this time. It advertised wifi, nope!! Had to use the hotspot on my phone the entire time. The overhead lights in the cielong of the bedroom with the king sizwd bed didnt work. Only had the bedside table lamps workingz it was too dark. The managing agency, mountain laurel, was amazing. No complaints for them. The cabin was very clean. The kitchen was fully stocked woth everything needed to cook.

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was somewhat unhappy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We first stayed here in 2000 after my Dad passed away. The place was beautiful with nice accommodations. 22 years later the place smelled musty, the ac didn't cool the upstairs, the hot tub didn't work. I swept quite a few bugs up while there along with hand smears which we on the bathroom mirror. We appreciate all the help from the rental office but we will not be renting there again.

Description needs improved

Rating Details: The vacation rental was very clean. I was somewhat unhappy with the location. I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The pictures of the house are outdated. You cannot see a view due to overgrown trees. It is not noted that bedrooms are downstairs. It is not noted that the house is on a very steep incline with a driveway that is hard to get up and lots of stairs. The house has a very musty smell to it. It is fairly close to town and we did see a bear but it is overpriced for rentals that are better kept.

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We had a great vacation! Our cabin was very comfortable and homey. We had a beautiful view. Road to the cabin is steep and windey, but it is well worth it. We had some issues with the hot tub but it's repair required draining and curing so we just dealt with it for our stay. Overall, we loved our experience in the mountains!

Very disappointed; does not look like pictures old and dirty

The only good thing about this property was the view. Otherwise the chalet is old and dirty, visible cobwebs, peeling wallpaper, stained furniture, musty smell, steep scary driveway, jacuzzi was either too hot 108 degrees or making noises keeping us up all night. The worst part of this experience however was the way the staff treated me at the office. When I went in the ask if there was anywhere else I could park I was basically told that my only option was that I could “leave and get my money back”. This person decided not to be helpful. Almost every person In the guest book on the coffee table commented on the scary steep driveway. I was told by staff that the main website said low vehicles may scrape which is not the same in my opinion and I asked that they inform the VRBO listing to outline this very important detail. I absolutely do not recommend this property.

80's Cabin

Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was very happy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We booked this cabin as a family with 2 young kids (4y and 13m). Getting to the cabin was tough- almost could not get up the driveway the first night as it was rainy. Thankfully the next 2 days were dry, so it was somewhat easier. The cabin is in a good location as far as easy to get to Gatlinburg attractions. There is some mountain view from the top balcony, but it was mostly obscured by trees. The interior appears to have largely not been touched since the 80's- in definite need of updates. The most notable need of update is the carpet, which is so worn that we stepped on carpet tacks on transition areas. There is also a musty smell to the cabin which was semi-unpleasant. Despite this, the interior surfaces were well cleaned and all the appliances worked well. WE didn't test out the hot tub. Expect to see bears!

Needs updates and improvement

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: There are several updates needed for this property. The carpet is old and has a bad smell. I was often stepping on carpet tacks in transition areas while being bare footed. The deck has exposed rusty nails on the outside of the railing, creating a hazard to my kids and the need for me to be constantly aware of what they were doing while outside.

Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was clean. I was happy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We reported several things to MLC. The steps to the chalet were terrible. No hand railing on the lower cement steps and rickety looking steps and railing on up. (The posting on this should be flagged as not suitable for seniors. We are quite mobile, but this place tested us.) Paint peeling on exterior. Gutters full of debris.Floor boards in both baths need replaced--look filthy. Hand railing on inside stairway loose. This chalet is in need of a major overhaul throughout.

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This cabin has a wonderful view and great amenities. It was clean, spacious and comfortable. It is only a couple of miles from downtown which was very nice. The driveway is a little steep, but most of the cabins i have stayed out are a little steep to travel. We did have a lot of bears too, but that was exciting. A little scary at times b/c they can come up very quickly. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to family and friends. I have stayed with Mountain Laurel several times and have been pleased with their service. Thank you for sharing your cabin with us.

I don't review places I wouldn't go back to

Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We knew we would be up in the mountains, and is obvious from the picture, the rental is on a hill, but we did not know that STEEP hill to the parking area would be hard on a car - you really need 4-wheel drive. The property needs updating - the outside could use some clean-up, paint, gutter-clean-out. The inside is still stuck in the 1980's when it was probably built - some paint, new wall-paper, re-finishing the tops of some of the tables would be a good start. The hot tub only goes to a certain degree, say, that of a kinda-warm bath water? On the plus side, the king-bed was comfortable, the upstairs TV worked fine (we didn't turn any of the others on), and the kitchen had about everything we needed to cook meals, since we weren't going up and down that STEEP hill to eat out. BTW - PLEASE take the fake LED candles out - we weren't the only ones who tried to light them!!

Awesome Time on the Rocks

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The entire experience was awesome! Check in was quick and easy. Due to covid, your keys or access code will be in an envelope outside the main office with your name on it. This was awesome because I am a little paranoid about this whole pandemic! The fireplace had wood already supplied along with a starter log. The two wrap around balconies were amazing! We had an awesome view of downtown Gatlinburg! The driveway is tricky. However, I was able to get up and down with little issues and I had a sedan with 2 wheel drive. I would really recommend an SUV or truck with all wheel drive just in case it rains and definitely if it snows. We shared a driveway with the neighboring chalet and they had a Nissan Pathfinder and they struggled getting up the driveway each time. I mean they really struggle each time. The wifi was hit or miss. If you need wifi for work or school you might want to bring your own hotspot just in case. It was sooo beautiful, we spent most of the time just gazing at the view of the mountains and the city below.

Spectacular View at the Top

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was more than happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: If you are looking for a view of the smokies, this place has it! The windows facing the mountains allowed us to witness spectacular views of the changing weather. The site of night time Gatlinburg was wonderful and we watched the Ober gondola make its trip several times. Additionally, the deck table and chairs were great places to sip your wine or coffee. The bedrooms are on the lowest level and are good size. The indoor hot tub was ok. It is definitely showing its age but it was nice to stay inside and enjoy. There are 2 full baths. The sun room was a great place to view the mountains as well. The appliances are good and the ice maker was a bonus. Overall, the property was clean but a bit musty. That was expected after a snowy winter of being closed up. The management company was very responsive. TVs were plentiful and cable was appreciated. The wireless internet was pretty good however, the renter should pull the device out of the cupboard in the bedroom with the queen size bed. The downside of a great view is the steepness of both the drive up and the driveway. We own a truck and were able to navigate fairly well but those with smaller cars should be prepared. Be prepared for a steep walk to the door. We left our luggage on the first deck where the bedrooms are located. Saved a lot of lifting. Warning - the indoor steps to the lower level are steep so take care going up and down. Thankfully there is a bathroom on the top living area. We did enjoy Gatlinburg. The Skylift was one of the attractions we enjoyed. The wine tasting was good as well. The drive to the Cades Loop was well worth the drive. Cherokee, NC is also a nice drive. The down town has a lot of commercial activities that appeal to younger crowds. We did enjoy the food at Park Grill, Crockets Breakfast Camp, Johnny Rockets, and Ski Mountain Pizza. We would return.
