Agriturismo Podere Conte Ràcani is situated 400 m. above sea level, on the hills above the left bank of the Tiber River, 10 km from the exit Attigliano/Bomarzo of the A1 highway Milano-Napoli. Still bears the name of its old owners, the Counts Ràcani, noble Umbrian family, whose coat of arms included in the two lizards (Racani in the local dialect), which is still present in the logo of the farm.
Next to the manor house, three apartments were created by restoring the stables and barn, while respecting the character and materials of the local tradition. Surrounded by olive groves, cultivated fields, forests of oaks, and beautiful landscapes of this typical Umbrian countryside, there are plenty of classic farm animals: chickens, ducks, sheep, horses and dogs.

Serene Country Retreat in the Umbrian HIlls
Arriving at this oasis after a long flight from the U.S. was most welcome! We enjoyed our 2 week stay immensely. The gracious proprietor Anna ensured that our stay was relaxing. Her gifts of wine, lamb chops, olive oil, eggs and abundant cherries from the tree outside our property were luxurious and especially generous. The beautiful property is set on a working farm with chickens, sheep. olive groves, cyprus and vineyards surrounding it. There is a huge, immaculate, shared pool which we enjoyed every evening for a cooling swim after a day of sight seeing in the local hill towns and Rome. The lovely terrace outside of our apartment was great for dinners cooked on our grill.
The apartment itself was simply and tastefully furnished with a lovely modern bathroom...(with great shower pressure!). The Kitchen had all of the basics, the beds were very comfortable with beautiful linens. A comfy sofa in the main room. The entire house was immaculately clean. We simply could not have asked for more. While we visited during the summer, I noted a huge working fireplace for the cooler months. What a treat that would be!
The property is well situated for day trips to towns such as Orvietto, Narni, Todi, Amelia and Rome is easily accessible for day trips. We took 2 trips to Rome via the Orte station which has continual service to and from the City. Orte is a quick 35 minute drive from the house and Rome is only 40 minutes. What a treat to return to the serene and lovely farm after a hot and tiring day in Rome!
The property is also only 10 minutes from the fantastic, bustling town of Giove where you can find: and InCoop grocery store (think wine bargains, delicious breads, cheeses and all the salumi you can eat!), a pharmacy, an amazing cafe, petrol, and an incredible pizzeria that also serves lovely grilled meats on their wood fired oven. (We ate there 3 nights!).
We can not wait to return and were so sad to leave!
For folks who want to be IN a town and do not like a rural drive (there is a dirt road for 2K to access the property, this would not be for you.) For those who enjoy peace and quiet outside of a conveniently located small town, this would be for you. Do be sure you have good directions or a phone for assistance in locating, as it is off the main highway. WELL worth the trek.

Quiet rustic farmhouse apartment.
We were given a most warm welcome to this farmhouse appartment by Anna and Nicola. The flat is comfortable and equipped with basic necessities. They went out of their way to make us feel welcome and gave us help in getting to know the area. The large swimming pool is beautifully clean and we had a wonderful relaxing week . It is quite difficult to locate as it is accessed down tracks rather than roads but once there the place is perfect for a quiet holiday.

Jane and Clare with their husbands, the ideal guests, enjoying the morning sun with their cup of tea, or challenging each other in table-tennis matches under the trees’shade after a relaxing swim in the pool. And always ready for a friendly smile. We hope to see you here again. Anna and Nicola
About the host

I grew up in Rome (Italy) till 36 years old and then moved to Milan (Italy) for job reasons. I'm actually working for a global marketing/communication group. During my high school time I spent a year in Clackamas (Oregon - USA) living in a great family.
Why they chose this property
This country farm was bought twenty five years ago by my parents who lives here managing the agricultural activities of the farm. My brother and I spent most of our youth here and we now have the opportunity to make our kids love the beauty of this place.
What makes this property unique
Silence, relax, lost in the country side in the south of Umbria, surrounded by animals, trees and fields. Take a walk, ride a bike or, if hot, jump into the swimming-pool. And if you want to add culture to your trip, beautiful surroundings are waiting for you: Amelia, Terni, Narni, Viterbo, Bomarzo, Cascate delle Marmore, and even Rome are not far and deserve a visit.
