Step Back in Time at Our Rustic 4BR/2.5BA Farmhouse Getaway
Looking for a peaceful escape into the countryside? Our spacious, well-loved 4-bedroom, 2.5-bath farmhouse offers an authentic rural retreat just steps from the Housatonic River and the historic West Cornwall Covered Bridge. This is not a modern hotel — it’s a 140-year-old farmhouse with all the charm that comes with it.
Perfect for those who appreciate character and country living, the home sleeps up to 8 guests and offers a unique mix of old-fashioned coziness and natural beauty.
Please note: This is a historic home in a country setting — there may be bugs, wildlife nearby, and limited water pressure when multiple fixtures are in use (we’re on a well). If you're looking for sleek and polished, this might not be the place for you.
What You’ll Love:
Steps from the Housatonic River & West Cornwall Covered Bridge
Screened-in porch, front porch, and upper deck for outdoor relaxation
Great access to hiking, fishing, antique stores, wineries, and farm stands
A peaceful place to disconnect, recharge, and experience true country life
Amenities: ✔ 4 Bedrooms with vintage charm ✔ Two kitchens (main one fully equipped; second one good for yoga or overflow cooking) ✔ Spacious common areas with lots of seating ✔ Screened-in porch & outdoor fire pit ✔ High-Speed Wi-Fi & Smart TV ✔ Free parking across the street for up to 3 cars ✔ Washer/Dryer (note: water pressure is impacted if too many appliances run at once)
The House: This home has large windows that bring in natural light, and multiple places to gather — including a front porch perfect for morning coffee, and a backyard with space for lawn games.
Expect older fixtures, and a little “country character.” This isn’t a luxury retreat, but something much rarer: a true farmhouse experience.
Kitchens:
Main Kitchen (1st Floor): Fully stocked for cooking
Second Kitchen (2nd Floor): Functional but sparsely stocked, great light for stretching or yoga
Bedrooms:
1 Full (1st Floor)
1 Queen + 1 Full (2nd Floor)
1 King with Ensuite (3rd Floor Master)
Optional: 2 twin mattresses in lounge for extra sleeping space
Bathrooms:
Ensuite with King Bedroom (3rd Floor)
Full bath off kitchen (1st Floor)
Half bath upstairs (2nd Floor)
About the Water: We are on a private well system — there's plenty of hot water, but if you shower while someone’s doing laundry or dishes, the pressure may drop. Please plan accordingly.

My family rented the house for the weekend. Was just as advertised in pictures/details. Lots of space, comfortable bedrooms and fully equipped kitchen made for a great weekend! Only issue (not complaint) was the showers were sensitive and I highly recommend only using one faucet, toilet or shower at a time and you will be fine, but for an older house it was to be expected. We skied at Mohawk (8 min) and Butternut (40 min) both easy, scenic drives. Would absolutly go back! Thank you!

Lovely setting, BUT
This is great for fit younger adults and older children but it proved daunting and dangerous for this active, nonetheless frail, elderly person. Both tub-shower arrangements were inaccessible (too high) for me due to my physical limitations. There are no railings up the front steps. That would have been OK except for the gap between the steps that "grabbed" my cane and nearly sent me tumbling. 20 years ago--even 10 years ago--this would have gone unnoticed by me. Also not recommended for fearless young children unless constantly supervised. That said, the place is cheerful, comfortable & cozy. I just wouldn't encourage frail elderly people to stay here.

Thank you for your review. I agree, not accessible for the “frail elderly” as you mentioned. I think the photos accurately show the accessibility and stairs in the home. I also mention limitations in the house description. I will make a point to highlight them in the future. Usually people ask ahead of time if there are concerns and have questions about whether it is a good fit and it’s unfortunate we didn’t connect ahead of time. Thank you and hope you had a good stay.
“Beautiful, atmospheric, authentic house with lots of space” Thank you so much for your review!!

We love our house in CT and want to share with you
Why they chose this property
We live in the city and need a relaxing spot in the country near some of our favorite hiking and friends
What makes this property unique
This was the farmstead for the entire area and has a lot of historic significance. I also love all of the woodwork and historical details. Walking through the bridge into town is my favorite.
