Top Deck is a direct Oceanfront Cottage tucked behind the ocean dune. This studio cottage is perfect for one or two people, but can accommodate up to four people. It's beautiful location is three miles south of Hope Town in White Sound on Elbow Cay. Most mornings start with beautiful sunrises over the ocean. Enjoy the amazing shared deck around the property which is covered to the east of the cottage and has a gazebo on the west side. The cottage is within easy walking distance to Abaco Inn. Three small grocery stores are located on Elbow Cay, but many of our guests prefer to stop for groceries in Marsh Harbour before taking the ferry to Elbow Cay. The picturesque Hope Town settlement, famous for the candy striped light house, is about a 15 minute golf cart ride. Golf carts and boats are available for rent from several places in the area. We have rebuilt our dock and can accommodate boats up to 24 feet. Sometimes stern anchoring may be necessary
AMENITIES king size bed queen size futon Tiled floors Air conditioning Kitchen with full size refrigerator, two burner built in cook top, microwave, etc. Dockage NO SMOKING NO PETS If you have not yet experienced the Abaco islands you will be truly amazed at the crystal clear water and beautiful islands. The people are friendly and helpful making this a top-notch vacation destination.

great little beach bungalow conveniently located between Abaco Inn and Sea Spray. Perfect for 2 people. Good communication and assistance from caretaker.
The set up and location were perfect for us. Great hot shower. For a couple or 2 friends it provided a quaint charming place to call home during our adventures.
Centrally located for the wedding we attended. The events were scattered throughout town so we were close to all. Would be nice if the bushes were trimmed by the front of the cottage so you could see the ocean. Looking at bushes was a distraction.
We stayed at Top Deck Cottage while visiting Elbow Cay for our friends’ wedding. It was perfect! Both Jon and Jean were so helpful. Would love to come back.

Thanks, glad you enjoyed your stay and the wedding.
We needed a place for 2 people after friends left which we had shared a house with. This place was perfect. Sleep shower and relax after boating or sightseeing. Comfortable place with beach access. AC WIFI Streaming TV
Perfect location. Great sunset, sunrise, and beach view. Most friendly people you’ll ever encounter!! Highly recommend. One thing that’s a must is purchasing The cruising guide to Abaco, if boating!! Thanks Jon!!
Jean - Property Manager was awesome and attentive and he always answered my calls that were for suggestions and local input. I have ZERO to complain about and he was there at checkout time to assist with luggage transfer to the rental boat! This property rental comes with a boat dock for the renter at no additional cost so that was a huge plus as well. Well done Jean! Appreciate you!
The cottage was very clean. There is no generator so when the power went out (frequently) it is extremely hot AND that means you can't charge any phones etc. I will never stay in the area again in a place without a generator. It's a must have in this area. Also, we had no hot water frequently and the shower was literally a trickle of water.
Hurricane Dorian destroyed the island before our visit. Communication from property owner was nonexistent. Did not reply to our questions. We did not go and it is doubtful that the property is habitable yet.

This guest never stayed at the property. I did have some delayed communication at times after hurricane Dorian. As I write this, it is almost 10 months after the storm and I have been in Abaco during restoration for about 6 months of that time. Communication was a challenge at times. Happily, much progress has been made and the cottages are in good shape as is much in Hope Town now.
We rented both Top Deck and Sea Oats. We had our teenage kids in one and my husband and I in the other. Perfect for our adventurous family. This was our first trip back since Dorian destroyed my in laws house on Sugarloaf Cay. This house felt like home because it had the pickled wood cabinets like our house (that was built 35 ish years ago). The dock is a short walk across the street and it is perfectly situated to protect the boat in the harbor. I loved not having to drive to restaurants you can take a two minute walk to Abaco Inn or four min walk to Sea Spray for food and drinks. We boat all day but I loved taking literally just steps to the beach in the morning for coffee and drinks at night to look at the stars. You are getting the same gorgeous view as the Abaco Inn! The water pump died when we were there and the owner was there replacing it an hour after I messaged him. We know the salt and weather are tough on the homes there and we appreciated his quick response! The little kitchen even worked for cooking our catch from fishing! Loved this gem of a property truly an old school experience perfect for our crew! We will be renting from them again soon hopefully!

Nice, but.....
This is a nice property in a great location. BUT....one of the best features of the place, a sliding glass door going out to to the ocean view side, is broken and will not open. The glass is etched by sea salt spray and the view is not clear. Because the door will not open the wonderful breeze is limited and view obscured. The place is clean and well equipped but could be perked up quite a bit with just some beach themed bedding instead of brown and black! Lastly, beach access is over the dunes and directly off the deck of an adjacent cottage on the same property; all connected by a large, well designed deck. There are boards laid loosely from the deck leading to the dune. The boards that are laid on the dune are not only treacherous but wrong. The dunes should crossed on board walks to preserve them.

Thank you for your comments, we are glad to hear you enjoyed the cottage and location. Sorry one of the sliding doors was not operable during your stay. My caretaker did let me know that it developed an issue and he was not able to repair it yet, it should soon be operable. We do have air conditioning and prefer that that door not be left open for long periods of time due to the direct beachfront location. The corrosive salt spray quickly contributes to issues and can lead to degradation (like the stuck door). I also appreciate your concern for the dune as we have been involved in rebuild efforts after a number of weather events. However, no building approval is available for "board walks" that you may be familiar with in other areas. I hope you return to enjoy the property, location, deck and of course all the surrounding area in Abaco has to offer.
Thanks,
Jon

Overall good place to stay but could be improved
Location of this property was perfect. Check-in process was seamless from being picked up at the dock to having our golf cart delivered. John, the property manager, did an outstanding job! But the property is so outdated. It would take very little to upgrade the property. And it needed a little more cleaning on the inside. The biggest disappointment was the sand dune in front of the property completely blocked any ocean view at all. You could hear it but not see anything. Just the back of a massive dune. Maybe the hurricane pushed the dunes higher and you're not allowed to alter them. Just clearing some of the vegetation that had grown on top might have helped. It would have been nice to be on the porch and see the gorgeous views. Which I thought from the pics we would be able to do. And, adding a few extras like a beach umbrella, small cooler....things you don't travel with would have been nice. Minimal effort and money would make this a perfect place for couples.

Thank you for your comments. Glad you enjoyed the location and your trip. You are correct that the dune is very important and needs to be left in place. Although it does block the ocean view while sitting on the deck, the vegetation on it is also important, the root system stabilizes the sand and prevents it from being blown away and on the cottage. I believe Sea Oats are illegal to disturb or trim in both the Bahamas and Florida. As far as a cooler, I usually just bring a collapsible easily packable one with me on my trips. Jean(John) is great, he overseas and follows up on the cleaning crew, I will pass along your comments to him. Glad to hear he took good care of you - he enjoys meeting and helping guests enjoy their stay.
I would rent again. Simple cottage that offers the bare necessities for a wonderful stay. This is no resort and we knew exactly what we were renting. Elbow Cay continues to rebuild and familiarization with the spartan amenities of the island is exactly what we expected. If you are looking for a basic vacation that you can enjoy by renting a golf cart and boat it is highly recommended…..
Property was awesome, right on the hill top with amazing ocean breezes and a breath away from the most beautiful beach with amazing little rock pools! Jon was awesome and filled our ever need upon request! Would stay here again in a heartbeat. Conveniently Abaco Inn was just around the corner and the studio was equipped with everything you would need for a staycation!!! Thanks for sharing this special place and hope to be back soon!!!
