About this property

Cozy, Spacious 5BR Home. Walk Downtown & Train to NYC & Jersey shore line.

Welcome to The House — a cozy, spacious 5-bedroom home where original character meets modern comfort.

Spread across three stories, our home has been thoughtfully updated while preserving the details that give an older home its warmth and personality. Original wood trim, hardwood floors and exposed brick chimneys are complemented by vintage and antique pieces throughout the house, thoughtfully mixed with comfortable modern furnishings and conveniences. The result is a home that feels warm, interesting and collected over time — not like a typical rental.

With 5 bedrooms, 2 full baths and 1 half bath, The House offers plenty of room for families and groups to spend time together while still having space to spread out.

Relax in the sunroom/sitting room overlooking the garden, gather together in the main living spaces, or head up to the third floor to enjoy the entertainment loft.

Traveling with children? We’ve tried to make traveling with little ones easier.

One of the five bedrooms is a dedicated nursery/children’s room, located just beyond the laundry room and adjoining the king bedroom — especially convenient for parents who want younger children nearby.

The room is thoughtfully equipped for children from infancy through approximately age 6–7, with a crib, rocking chair, blackout curtains, children’s chairs, toys, games, puzzles, age-appropriate books and plenty of stuffies. Shelving is secured with young children in mind.

With advance notice, the crib can also be converted to a toddler/day bed for children up to approximately age 3–4.

Our updated kitchen is fully equipped for enjoying meals at home, whether you’re preparing breakfast before heading out for the day or gathering everyone together for dinner.

There’s also a separate coffee pantry, perfect for starting the morning without taking over the kitchen.

And yes — even the refrigerator is a little fun! Our brand-new refrigerator provides filtered water, traditional ice and craft ice spheres, which have quickly become a guest favorite for drinks and entertaining.

The home also includes a dedicated laundry room with updated appliances, particularly convenient for families and longer stays.

For guests who like to keep up with their routine while traveling, exercise equipment is available in the laundry room, including a stationary ab machine and free weights.

Other comforts include a Samsung Frame TV, a beautiful clawfoot soaking tub, central air and blackout curtains.

Outside is one of our favorite parts of The House.

Enjoy the front porch, back deck, fenced backyard, gardens and private patio. There are plenty of places to have your morning coffee, enjoy a meal outside or simply relax after a day exploring the area.

Indoor and outdoor dining can accommodate up to 12 guests, making the house especially comfortable for families and groups who want to gather together.

A large private driveway provides off-street parking for up to 4 cars, a wonderful convenience in the area.

And then there’s the location.

The House gives you the feel and space of a neighborhood home while putting so much within easy reach.

We’re approximately 2 blocks from the train, providing convenient access toward New York City and the Jersey Shore, and about 2 blocks from the waterfront.

You can also leave the car behind and walk downtown to restaurants, cafés, delis, live music and neighborhood spots.

It’s a wonderful home base for guests who want to explore New York City, spend time along the Jersey Shore, visit family and friends in the area, or simply settle in and enjoy the house.

What we love most about The House is the combination of old and new.

The original hardwood floors, woodwork and exposed brick sit comfortably alongside renovated spaces, modern furnishings and conveniences. Vintage and antique pieces throughout the home add character without sacrificing comfort.

The House isn’t meant to feel like a generic rental. It’s a real home — comfortable, spacious, welcoming and full of interesting details.

Whether you’re gathering generations of family, traveling with children, visiting friends, heading into New York or spending time at the Jersey Shore, we hope you’ll settle in, spread out and truly enjoy your time here.

Welcome to The House.

Host profile image

I love welcoming guests to The House and sharing a home that has been loved, cared for and filled with memories for decades. This home and South Amboy hold a very special place in my heart.

I truly enjoy hosting and creating the kind of stay I would want for my own family—comfortable, welcoming, clean and thoughtfully prepared. I love the little details that make people feel at home, whether it’s fresh flowers, comfortable bedding, a well-stocked kitchen or simply making sure guests have everything they need.

One of my favorite things about hosting is hearing that families and friends were able to relax, spend time together and make their own memories here. I’m always happy to answer questions about the house or the area and help guests make the most of their stay.

Welcome to The House—I hope you enjoy it as much as we have for decades.

Why they chose this property

I chose the small-town, little-city feel of South Amboy because I love living in a friendly, walkable community. It was a wonderful place to raise my children, where they could enjoy the freedom and sense of community that comes with a smaller town.

One of my favorite things about The House is being able to leave the car behind and walk into town for dinner, ice cream, a cup of coffee and a pastry, a drink, or some live music. You can also stroll down to the waterfront and enjoy the views and fresh air.

South Amboy has the charm of a small community while being incredibly convenient. The train station is just a short walk from The House, and South Amboy also offers direct ferry service to Downtown Manhattan, giving guests wonderful options for visiting New York City without having to drive.

After decades here, I still appreciate that combination—the warmth of a neighborhood where people know one another, the waterfront, local places to eat and relax, and the convenience of having so much within reach.

South Amboy truly gives you the best of both worlds: a welcoming small-town atmosphere with easy access to New York City, the Jersey Shore and so much more

What makes this property unique

The House is a beautifully updated 120-year-old home where historic character meets modern comfort. Original wide-plank hardwood floors, fluted woodwork, tall ceilings, original architectural details, exposed brick chimneys and working radiators preserve the character of the home, while thoughtfully chosen modern furnishings and updated spaces make it comfortable for today’s guests.

With three full floors of living space, The House offers plenty of room for families and groups to spread out while still enjoying time together. The third-floor entertainment loft is a favorite—a wonderful space to relax, watch TV, play games or simply have a little extra room away from the main living areas.

The home includes five bedrooms, including a dedicated nursery designed with younger guests in mind, along with two full bathrooms and one half bath. The nursery has a crib, blackout curtains, rocking chair, children’s books, toys, puzzles, games and plenty of stuffed animals. With advance notice, the crib can also be converted to a toddler daybed.

The updated kitchen includes modern appliances and a new refrigerator with filtered water and specialty ice. There is also a laundry room with updated appliances and exercise equipment available for guests.

Throughout The House you’ll find an eclectic mix of vintage and antique pieces alongside modern furnishings, giving the home a personality and warmth that you simply don’t get from a typical rental.

Outside, guests can enjoy the patio, gardens and large private driveway, with room for multiple vehicles.

What makes The House most special to me is that it has been a real family home for decades. It has history, character and all the wonderful imperfections of a home that has been lived in and loved—while offering the space, amenities and comforts today’s guests appreciate.

It isn’t a cookie-cutter vacation rental. It’s a home with a story, and I love being able to share it with our guests.
