Named for its superb location on Union Street and domestic tranquility, A MORE PERFECT UNION is a 1,200 sf floor-thru that provides a beautiful bohemian base for a weekend in Hudson. It's ideal for wedding guests, and well-provisioned enough to feel and function like home for longer-term stays.
This immaculate, unique home blends historic Federal-style construction with an exuberant mélange of eclectic furnishings. Its wide original floorboards feel warm and solid underfoot, and its walls are enlivened by the vibrant art of local folk artist Earl Swanigan, Spanish abstract expressionist Isabel Santaló, and surrealist John Fenton, among others, creating a rich, layered ambience.
Public spaces are roomy with high ceilings. The three bedrooms—with one queen-size bed, one full with featherbed, and one pillowtop full, all Goldilocks-approved—are cozy and generously appointed with pillows and soft linens, and there's an additional queen-size convertible couch in the living room. A MORE PERFECT UNION also has its own thermostat, and AC in every bedroom.
The yin-yang buddha garden, a lush oasis where hummingbirds flit amongst orange trumpet flowers all summer, has a propane BBQ and plenty of seating for guests on either floor to enjoy.
Please tell me the number in your party and the reason for your visit so I can best accommodate your needs.
MORE ABOUT THE NEIGHBORHOOD & HUDSON: Union Street, and my block in particular, has the lovely settled energy of an older neighborhood. It's quiet and peaceful here, yet only a minute's walk from the exact center of Warren Street, Hudson's happening main drag with its varied restaurants, wine bars, art galleries, boutiques, and all manner of fashions - antique and au courant - for home and humans.
Hudson is a very small city, and you can explore all of it easily on foot. Warren Street, Hudson's main artery, is a minute's leisurely stroll from the house, and there is street parking all around. The Catskills, Frederick Church's Olana and Hudson River beaches — to name just three of the Hudson Valley's memorable offerings — are all a 10- or 15-minute drive, and more easily accessed by car.
Hudson is about 120 miles from New York City, a two-hour train ride from Penn Station, and 48 miles from Albany International Airport (ALB). Although you can walk anywhere in town from the house, the closest supermarkets, movie theaters and fast food are located in strip malls 1-1/2 to 3-1/2 miles away (thus preserving Hudson's remarkable architectural continuity). There are taxis, a car rental agency, and two places to rent bicycles (one of which also rents skis and kayaks) in town.
OTHER THINGS TO NOTE: PLEASE TAKE YOUR SHOES OFF UPON ENTERING THE HOUSE. Cozy house socks will be provided, with many thanks from your House Fairy.
PET POLICY: Unfortunately, although I love them more than life, I am unable to accept pets as guests.
ACCIDENTS HAPPEN: I totally understand. I ask only that you tell me if something has been broken, stained or otherwise damaged. I will either thank you for letting me know and wave it off as a cost of doing business, or we can work out some reasonable solution that preserves the sacrosanct bonds of candor and respect between hostess and guests.
THERE WILL BE A $25 FEE for lost keys or dirty dishes left in the kitchen.
EXTENDED STAYS: Biweekly cleanings will be included in the bill. You may also arrange for more frequent cleanings. I am happy to help schedule those upon request.
LEGAL STUFF: Please note that 5% of the cost of your rental goes to the City of Hudson as a lodging tax. This property is registered with the City of Hudson, License No. 481.

The house is very well situated on a quiet street but only a block away from Warren Street and all the amenities it offers. The place is charming and comfortable and well stocked with anything one might need. Our only concern was that it is easy to pull the kitchen drawers out too far and the owner may want to warn people to be a little careful when opening them. I would recommend this place to anyone wanting a place to stay in Hudson.
My wife and I absolutely loved this house, and Ellen was incredible! The rooms were beautiful, the garden was beautiful, and the whole place managed to be both cozy and spacious at the same time. You're also right in the heart of Hudson, within walking distance to all the restaurants and shops. We had an amazing time and would definitely stay here again! (Thanks Ellen!)

Oh, thank you so much, Miles. You and Jen were the perfect guests, and I so appreciate both your visit and your kind review. You are welcome any time, and I hope you'll come my way again.
We wanted to see the "Cross Pollination" exhibit at Olana and to explore the area around Hudson. Ellen's apartment was perfect as it was close to all the activity on Warren Street, but a quiet refuge after a full day of exploring.
Ellen met us at check-in, and after going over the basics, we learned about her unique art collection - it made for a very special stay.
We had a lovely 36 hours in Hudson, and every hour spent in Ellen's apartment was a joy.

Perfect union of hospitality and comfort
My family's recent stay in a Hudson for my daughters wedding was worry free thanks to Ellen and her wonderful properties. Ellen went above and beyond answering all my questions and making sure I felt confident that all would be perfect The apartments both a More Perfect Union and Blue Skies are charming and comfortable. Centrally located , making it a wonderful place for our family to gather before and after the wedding. I highly recommend staying with Ellen, the experience could not have been better.
Perfect location and lovely comfortable accommodation
My family of 3 adults loved our stay at A perfect Union. The location is ideal- walkable to great restaurants and shops. On-street parking was plentiful. The apartment was comfortable, nicely decorated and very well equipped. Kitchen had all the basics and lots more from small appliances to baking pans to spices. Air conditioning and Wi-Fi worked well. We also enjoyed time in the garden at the back of the house. Ellen is a gracious host who will ensure her guests are well informed about the area and have everything they need. Would happily stay here again.

Thank you so much, Maryann. It was an absolute pleasure to meet the three of you and to have you in the house. Please know that you have a standing invitation, and that I'd be delighted to see you any time!
Location, location, location! One block from Warren, we had easy walking access to town, while also enjoying the peace and quiet of being off the main drag. A lovely, very roomy, well-cared for, meticulously clean ground-floor apartment with all the necessities and conveniences, dressed up in artistic style. Comfortable beds, fully equipped kitchen, plenty of dining room and living room seating. Ellen even provided a little cache of ground coffee in the fridge for guests that forgot! Fully stocked pantry from Cheerios to nuts and jams, every herb and spice, pots/pans for the cook. We wanted for nothing. Bonus: a marvelous enclosed garden for peaceful repose with a fruit -laden Asian pear tree. Thanks, Ellen, for all the thoughtful personal touches and your helpful advice. We'll be back and recommend this homey place without reservation!
A beautiful quiet apartment convenient to downtown Hudson.
Hostess Ellen decorated her apartment with interesting artwork and colorful decor throughout. Myself and my two grown daughters thoroughly enjoyed relaxing in this comfortable space for the weekend. Thoughtful additions of coffee, tea, bagels and more await the lucky visitors, as well.
We discovered this listing when looking for a place to stay while we did the Aerial Adventure Park at Catamount. I'd never heard of Hudson before.
It was the perfect place for us with our 2 college-aged kids. Easy access to outdoor fun and a nice though small downtown with fun shops, galleries and food. We also discovered Omi Art, and outdoor sculpture venue, and loved it.
Apartment was most full outfitted I've ever experienced, which was great because we enjoy cooking. Very clean, comfy beds and fun decor. We also enjoyed the back garden area.
We highly recommend this, Ellen was a great host. And we'd definitely come back.
A great place to stay with friends and explore Hudson and the Hudson Valley. I had several groups of friends stay and everyone thought the house was welcoming and comfortable. Super clean as well. It's walking distance to everything in Warren Street and the area. On street parking no problem. It rained at different times and we were comfortable staying and playing board games. A great place to stay. Ellen the host makes sure you have everything you need.
We had a lovely stay. The second time coming to Ellen’s place and we hope to be back soon again. The back patio was a zen space and we loved our morning coffee on the patio.
Beds are super comfy and the apartment is like a mini museum. 👍👍
We enjoyed everything!
Thank you so much for your visit and your kind review, Eileen. I am so happy that you enjoyed your stay, and really appreciated what a considerate guest you are. My door is always open to you, so please come back any time!
What a delightful place. The location was perfect and Ellen was a terrific host. We were without a car and could walk to everything. The communication and her availability was superb. I would stay here again. The queen bed was so comfortable and the back patio was lovely place to enjoy our morning coffee.

Comfortable apartment with thoughtful details
A group of three friends gathered here for a reunion, and it was a perfect setting! We gathered our extra friends around the dining room table--plenty of room for all, and the kitchen had all we needed. Ellen is a delightful host and adds so much --lovely fresh flowers, great bagels and orange juice for the mornings. Fun decor, pretty back garden, very comfortable and perfect central location.

Impeccable, artistic, inspiring!
Ellen's home is a true sanctuary with a mix of historic charm and bohemian flair. Everything was meticulously clean and well-curated. I spent the weekend there with my daughters to attend the Hits horseshow and, not only did Ellen provide breakfast essentials, she even left apples and carrots for the horses! The courtyard patio is a zen garden which we shared with our friends for a lovely afternoon get together. I would definitely return without hesitation.

Beautiful Apartment- awesome location!
Our family of 4 stayed in A More Perfect Union apartment in Hudson for two nights while we were in town for a wedding. The previous place we had booked cancelled on us with only 2 weeks left until the wedding (panic time, as all the hotels in town were fully booked by then). Thankfully, this apartment was available and we were able to book in on short notice- I'm glad we stayed here instead! The apartment is lovely, with beautiful and unique decorations from all over the world-- and more importantly, everything we could have needed was right there. Extra toothbrushes, towels, good coffee, half & half, fruit and breakfast foods- I am fairly positive if I had needed a sewing kit or an aspirin for a headache I would have found them easily. This place is seriously well stocked, and the owner is so friendly and helpful. And you can't beat the location- one block walk to antique shops, restaurants, art galleries, and a bar inside a bookstore (really, who can ask for more?)
I have lived in Hudson, New York, since 1999. Hudson is a vibrant mini-city with arts, antiques, excellent restaurants, music, auctions, shops, and, of course, the Hudson River. Whether you want to scout stylish home decor or paint like a Hudson River School painter, you can do it here. I am happy to provide you with a tranquil, comfortable apartment steps from the center of town.
Why they chose this property
Because it's the only one with a House Fairy! who bears a striking resemblance to me, your hostess. I want you to be happy and comfortable. So please let me know the number of people in your party, or if it changes; the reason for your visit; and any other requests so that I can better accommodate your needs.
What makes this property unique
A More Perfect Union is located exactly mid-town on a safe, quiet street in an peaceful neighborhood abounding in wonderful old architecture. It's less than a minute's walk from the house to Warren Street, Hudson's burgeoning main drag with all its restaurants, wine bars, art galleries, antiques, fashions vintage and au courant for home and humans, and of course the Hudson River. The enclosed buddha garden offers a tranquil respite for breakfast, a barbecue, or relaxing at night with a glass of wine after coming home from a wedding.
