Lovely property, quiet area, but alarming deposit process
Firstly, this is a lovely property. It was spacious, and quiet, in a nice neighbourhood. We had a great time once we arrived. One thing to flag was that there was no hot water, so all 7 of us had lukewarm showers both days that we stayed. The serious problem was being asked to pay a damage deposit, mere hours before check-in, with the threat of a cancelled stay if we didn't. By the time I heard about the deposit, most of our group were in Bristol, and would have been totally stranded if we didn't transfer money to the host's bank account. I understand the host's need for a deposit, and we didn't damage the property so it was returned to us promptly, but the timing was a huge stress; in the middle of the work day, when there were weeks beforehand to have discussed the need for a deposit. I'd happily recommend anyone to stay (if the water is fixed), but ensure you pay a damage deposit within the Vrbo booking process, otherwise you'll be asked to on check-in day, which may not be easy for those travelling from afar on that day. I believe the host has set up a deposit process within the booking on Vrbo now, but I have to make others aware not to book without that deposit included in the price, it was so stressful.
