Villa Barou: Authentic traditional house; spectacular views in Sifnos, Cyclades

This magical villa on the hills of Exambela was built for two professors who shared it with their 4 children and 13 grandchildren, and who used it every summer to write, research, relax and connect with friends. It is a perfect retreat for artists, writers, academic sabbaticals, families, friends, or a luxurious romantic getaway. Villa Barou, a two-level traditional Cycladic white washed home, is surrounded by stone patios, local vegetation, and spectacular views of the aegean and the island. The upper level consists of the main entrance, a very large living and dining area (Mary’s Great room) and study area, and ceiling fan; the main kitchen, a master bedroom with king bed(European size), and a bedroom with a queen size bed that can be also rearranged in two twin beds, and bureaus. Each bedroom has an adjoining bathroom with a shower. Each bedroom and living/dining/study areas have their own seperate Air Conditioning units.
The lower level is separated from the upper level and can be accessed through a separate entrance. It features a large bedroom area with one king size bed(European Size), a bunk bed (bottom is a queen size and the top a twin size)kitchenette, table for eating, a 6 drawer bureau, a built in closet, and an Air Conditioning unit; and a second bedroom with a queen size bed (European size) with built-in closet and a ceiling fan; and a bathroom with a shower that is shared by both bedroom areas. An outdoor stone staircase connects the two levels.

This house can accommodate up to 8 people, and is also an ideal rental for two families. Example: upper level max. 4 people, lower level max. 4 people. There is also an aerobed inflatable mattress onsite in case an additional bed is needed. The house is 211 square meters, or approximately 2,270 square feet. The private land area is approximately 3 stremma, or 3/4 of a US acre.

Villa Barou is situated on top of a magnificent hillside surrounded by olive trees and stone walled terraces at the edge of the residential village of Exambela. The serene surroundings have a constant breeze with magnificent superb panoramic views of the Aegean Sea, villages, hills, and mountains on surrounding Sifnos. There are also views to other islands in the Aegean such as Anti Paros, Paros, Nazos, Sikinos, Tinos, Myconos, Siros and Ios.

The site can be accessed from the main road where you may leave your car at a small public parking lot, which is a 2-3 minute walk from the house via a public paved stone path. Guests who rent scooters from local agencies can ride them down the public path straight to the house. The house is 10 -15 minutes walking distance from the centrally-located village of Apollonia, away from the shops, bars, bakeries, and restaurants. There are also two local grocery stores in Exambela, about 5-10 minutes walking distance.
