A quick get away

Had so much fun staying at this house. The property is really great and secluded which made it a perfect place to stay to get away for a weekend. Would definitely stay there again.

had a great stay!

Some friends and I met here for a couple nights in December -- we had a great time! There was plenty of space for everyone, and everything we needed for a couple days and nights: fireplace, kitchen, a place to park ourselves to play cards. I'd be more than happy to rent this place again!

Excellent private getaway cabin

Property was very private and secluded but yet close enough to many area attractions. Property was very clean and has a nice open floor plan. Owner is quick to respond with any concerns, would definitely stay again.

Wonderful rental property

My husband and I were here for a week and children and grandchildren for the first weekend. We found the house to be very clean and the kitchen was well equipped. The location of the property was perfect. Catherine was very easy to reach for any questions. We would definitely stay here again.

Awesome vacation!

We had a wonderful stay. My husband and our two young daughters stayed for two weeks while we were in the middle of moving from Virginia to Pennsylvania. The house has tons of space for the kids to run around and play. It had pretty much everything you could need while away from home, including a full size laundry room and 2.5 bathrooms. It’s very quiet and peaceful and we can’t wait to go back. Catherine was a pleasure to work with and always available.

Beautiful place

The place is beautiful and looks even bigger in person. It is very clean and the instructions were very thorough which was nice. It was great that we could bring our dog with us. It is nice and secluded, but it doesn't take long to get to activities. The owner is so nice and gave great instructions. This was our first time using HomeAway and it was a great experience. We have recommended the place to family and friends and plan to rent it again in the future.

The Great Outdoors

This house was in the perfect spot for a great weekend getaway. With the freezing weather the first night, we took advantage of the fireplace for a nice night inside. The next evening we used the firepit outside and really enjoyed the peace and quiet with woods all around. There was lots of space inside and slept 7 of us, each in our own bed with a couple to spare. The kitchen and grill were great for cooking. We're ready to go back!

Cozy and secluded

Catherine was amazing from being to end. This home is exactly what it advertises. It's secluded and roomy. I loved having the big kitchen to work in. Having 3 bathrooms was great as well. The back screen porch was great for late night relaxing in the summer breeze. I cannot wait to bring the kids next time. I definitely will recommend this home to friends and family. We will definitely be back soon. Thanks Catherine for everything. The Walshs

Another wonderful relaxing week at Pensi Place!

We love Pensi Place so much and had made up our minds before we left last year that we were coming back for another week this year. We were glad we did! Plenty of mountain laurel, white pine and tall oak trees surround this home and make it a peaceful and relaxing retreat. Morning coffee or tea on the front deck is the perfect way to start your day! The home is clean and very well maintained. A well stocked kitchen plus abundant accommodations make you feel at home. Catherine is wonderful to work with and always responds quickly to our questions and concerns. You see her pride in ownership everywhere! Needless to say, we will definitely be back again!

Warm homely vibe in the midst of nature

We booked the place because this property was highly recommended by a friend and it definitely lived up the hype. The check in process might seem like it’s a long one- but trust me, it really isn’t, especially because Catherine takes such great care to make sure that everything is clear and detailed out for the guests. The home itself is open, airy and has a very warm welcoming vibe. You can tell that someone has invested a lot of time and love into building this place. My personal pet peeve is hygiene and I never saw a speck of dust or a single stain in the house. The kitchen utensils were brand new and the welcome book was filled with helpful info for the guests. I will definitely be coming back here again for more!

Peace and Tranquility

We just got back from spending a couple of wonderful days at Pensi Place. If you like privacy and a very clean and well appointed, home away from home, this is the place for you! Catherine couldn't have been nicer or easier to work with. We were able to take our two dogs which we all loved. Thank you Catherine! The property is so beautiful, literally surrounded by the largest most beautiful rhododendrons you will ever see. There was a great firepit outback and fireplace in the living room, which we thoroughly enjoyed! The home is so well furnished and has such a great open floor plan, we just loved it!! It was close to everything, downtown Jim Thorpe and the Poconos. All of our children loved it from age13 to 27. Do yourself a favor and stay at Pensi Place...I promise you, you will not be disappointed!

Disappointing Stay

The few good things:• The online images are outdated, there’s no carpet. Its updated wood floors.• The TV is newer than picturedReality:The "5 acres" is not usable. Outdoor space is nonexistent. The property is surrounded by thick rhododendrons that make it completely impenetrable. You’re expected to wash and dry all the sheets before leaving or be charged. You're instructed to take trash to a transfer station using the host’s card but we found no such card. When we asked the host about it she insisted it had to be there or that maybe our child had taken it. Hes not even tall enough to reach where it was supposedly kept. The master shower barely drains, we had to use a plunger every 3mins to avoid it spilling over the lip of the shower. The other bathroom has a tub but the stopper is broken, making it useless for bathing kids. The hot water lasts 20 minutes at best, and the water pressure is terrible. There are 5 remotes for the TV and none work well. For a host who is very strict about cleaning rules we found there are mouse droppings in various places. We had to wash everything before & after meals. The flimsy plastic patio chairs are so brittle from weather exposure they feel like they’d snap beneath you. The washer is noisy and does not spin properly. Clothes came out dripping wet &unusable without an extra spin cycle& extended drying time. We’re easygoing travelers and don’t usually leave negative reviews, but this just didnt measure up

First and not the last!

The house and the area were simply AMAZING! My family, friends, and I went up to PA for a relaxing weekend getaway and the house and scenery were absolutely perfect! We went boarding and skiing at Blue Mountain Resort--one of the best mountains I've ever been to, and it's so close! The pictures didn't do the house much justice in the fact that it has soooo much free space! It was definitely a lot roomier than I thought it would be which was perfect so that we weren't all crowded. Cath, the house is furnished absolutely perfectly--it basically had everything we could have ever needed. My mother especially loved the towel rack over the heater vent in the bathroom! We will absolutely definitely rent with you again. I love the homey feel that I got the second I stepped foot through the doorway! Cathie is a doll, and we're so happy that the renting process went as smoothly as it did. Can't wait till next time!

no water?

Getting in was great. The kitchen had knives that barely cut the air, and a lack of"vacation" pots and pans. Maybe I didn't read carefully, but when I got the contrczt that said no potable water? I had committed. This place is a really nice camp, not a cavsy place in usual terms. We had a great time anyway, as the actually useable space was close, and so are we. The walls are very thin... if you want privace for anyone, hmmmm, probably not.

About the host

Our family lives on busy Long Island which affords us wonderful waterfront and beaches. We have extended family in PA and wanted our own piece of paradise nearby so we ventured out in 2003 and bought this warm, charming, country home. It was love at first sight!

Why they chose this property

When looking for a vacation rental I wanted something my own family would enjoy too. I wanted a country feel in the woods to get us away from our hectic lives. This home is 10 miles off Route 80 at Exit 284. It's just 110 miles from NYC. It was in the perfect location. Extremely private, easy to get to, only a few hours drive and plenty of things to do in the surrounding area. I hope your family loves this home as much as mine does.

What makes this property unique

The family room is my paradise. There are 15 floor to ceiling windows for a panoramic view of the woods. This is where you'll see wild life grazing or just passing through. You'll see for yourself if you join us!
