About this property

Mauna Kea Luxury - 180º Ocean, Maui & Sunset Views, Heated Private Pool & Spa

This stunning home offers the best of both worlds: the comfort of a spacious, private home and access to all of the facilities of the Mauna Kea and Hapuna resorts. All four bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms.

We have not furnished and equipped this as a "rental property", we've set it up to be the place we would want to stay in and not have to run to the store or wing it because we don't have a needed utensil, appliance etc.

Our kitchen features professional grade Viking stainless steel appliances, plenty of dishes, glasses, flatware, serving pieces etc., and a wine refrigerator. We have board games, books, beach towels and toys, coolers, snorkel gear, fast internet, and flat screen TVs with AppleTV in every room.

In addition, you will have access to private concierge services to facilitate every aspect of your trip, from purchasing groceries to stock the refrigerator before your arrival, to restaurant recommendations and reservations, and helping arrange activities throughout the island. Our local property manager is available to you 24x7 for any needs that might arise.

Staying in this house entitles you to full use of the amenities of the Mauna Kea resort for an additional fee set by the resort (currently $240/day which covers all guests, details below).

Championship golf, tennis, beaches, heated pools, restaurants, spas, fitness centers, shops, business center and valet parking are just some of the options available to you at both the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and the Westin Hapuna Hotel with full signing privileges. The beautiful white sand beaches are consistently rated the best beaches in all of the Hawaiian islands. Swim, snorkel, boogie board, paddle surf, play in the sand, or relax on the hotel-provided lounge chairs under beach umbrellas. Or just hang out by the wonderful heated pool. Scuba diving, whale watching, shopping and farmer’s markets are all close.

Outside, enjoy the incredible views of the ocean, Maui, and breathtaking sunsets over the foreground golf course from the spacious lanai. Our pool is a 40’ saline infinity pool, which is heated *at no additional cost*, as is our hot tub.

If you are ready to leave the resort, great restaurants and shopping in Mauna Lani, Waikoloa, and Waimea are close by. Call me, I'd be happy to fill you in on our experience with the wonderful mix of luxury stores, stores, boutiques, art galleries, dining, farmers markets, dive spots, and the off-the-beaten-path local gems.

Cancellation Policy:
For most reservations, cancellation at least 14 days before check-in will qualify for a refund of 100% of the amount you’ve paid. Cancelations between 7 and 14 days before check-in will qualify for a 50% refund. Otherwise, no refund will be given.

Perfect Home for our Extended Family Vacation

Our extended family rented two homes in the Mauna Kea Residences for our recent December vacation, and it was a wonderful stay in all ways. This home was so comfortable and inviting; it was well-stocked, the pool was a highlight for grandparents all the way down to our youngest 3 year old, and the suite with separate entrance was very convenient for the family with young children. We enjoyed use of both the Hapuna and Mauna Kea resorts as well. There is so much to do and see on the big island, but you wouldn't need to leave this home or the resort to have a beautifully complete vacation.

Great stay

This place is stocked very well. We had 10 ladies and spent the majority of our time in the amazing outdoor space eating, swimming, and having fun. The view is to die for. We also played tennis and Pickleball at the MK and spent most of our time on the beach. I love the MK... one of my favorite beaches on Earth!

Wonderful House

This was one of the nicest houses we have stayed at on the big island. The pool/patio area was laid out very nice with plenty of move for everyone. The kitchen was well organized and stocked with items. House was very clean. Towels and bedding were very nice. We would definitely stay here again. Kathleen the property manager was a great help to us and even did some grocery shopping so we had a good start when we arrived.

Amazing Hawaii experience

We had a truly lovely time at this house. We managed to fit 10 people, including 4 kids, without it ever feeling too crowded. The kitchen was well stocked, the property manager was super nice, and above all else -- the pool & view are incredible. We saw the best sunset of our lives one night. Having access to the two nearby resorts was also a big plus for the kids. That's an added cost, but was definitely worth it for us. Would definitely stay here again!

Wonderful home at Mauna Kea

We gathered at this well appointed property with three generations to celebrate an 80th birthday. The home is stocked with anything and everything you need. This layout is perfect to hang out, swim & sun, and also host a small birthday celebration with a private chef. The view to the ocean is beautiful and the golf course setting is peaceful. We enjoyed the Mauna Kea and Hapuna Prince beach amenities daily. Our favorite meal out was at the Kuleana Rum Shack in Queen’s Marketplace- delicious craft cocktails and great food.

My Husband's 60th Birthday in Paradise!

We rented this home for my husband's 60th birthday celebration, and were very pleased with the accommodations, and also so happy for the wonderful service provided by both the owner (via original vrbo chat) and the concierge, Kathleen - just very responsive and helpful, thank you! The home is advertised exactly how it is - it truly is set up beautifully. The kitchen is well-equipped, which was helpful as we hired a private chef (recommended by the concierge)...The backyard is lovely - the pool, the hot tub, the patio...all perfect. The beds are so comfortable, the owner thought of everything! We hope to be back soon...Mahalo!!!

Family vacation

We spent 8 nights at this home. We vacationed with my wife, daughter and mother, along with my in-laws. The house was perfect for our party of 7. We cooked in the kitchen and bbq for 5 of the nights and the place was setup perfect for it. Everything you needed was there. Excellent bbq. The house is nice and modern and spacious. The backyard is incredible! Wow. We spent so many days and evenings hanging in the backyard. It was a special gathering place, especially for the sunsets. The property manager was very responsive. We highly recommend this home. Amazing vacation!!

My only hesitation in writing this review is making this villa more popular than it already is! We had a wonderful week here. Kathleen (house manager) stocked the house for us before we arrived and even collected the bathing suits my daughter forgot (and got them to friends at the Mauna Kea!) when we left. Top notch service and amenities and a view that DOES NOT QUIT. House feels "even bigger" in person and is perfectly located between MK and Hapuna. Owners have furnished the property with everything anyone could need (and labeled everything so you're never confused). We will be back!

The place was totally amazing. Great environment. Memorable views. Great location. Conveniences were perfect both within the house and in the area - especially with accesses to the Mauna Kea Resort/Westin Hapuna privileges. The hosts were great to work with. Diana and Kathleen were accessible, communicative, informative, helpful, pleasant, and accomodating from start to finish. They made it easy and delightful. Check in was simple and quick. The hosts met us at the home and walked us thru everything. The home was well provisioned with appliances and was very beautifully appointed. We had everything we needed from plates/dishes to beach/pool items including towels. The laundry and daily washing was easy given 2 washers and 2 dryers. Grounds were well maintained (mostly). We bought some items that we needed like an umbrella for the backyard (which we left for whomever comes here going forward). The home has modern entertainment in every room, books, tons of games, toys, and - as mentioned before - is loaded with every amenity. WiFi was speedy & strong everywhere.The 3 bedrooms Ohana suite 4 bathrooms were immaculate. The ample space accomodated 6 adults and 3 grandkids (ages 4-6) with zero problems and plenty of space. 2 indoor 1 outdoor eating areas... 3 gathering areas (1 outdoor) 6 outdoor lounge chairs... wonderful pool... made the stay easy and fun for all. Everyone loved the stay. Highly recommended this listing. WORTH IT!!!

Incredible Experience

It’s hard to overstate what a great property this is. We’ve stayed at other residences at Mauna Kea, but this was by far the best. The location of the house within the Mauna Kea resort allows for easy access to activities, but much needed privacy at the end of the day for our family to enjoy preparing a meal together then enjoying it on the lanai. If you like to cook, the property is well stocked with both cooking appliances/utensils and basic spices. There were also beach chairs for day trips to the beach, and lounge chairs to float in the pool. Diana, the owner, and Kathleen, the property manager, were incredibly responsive during the weeks leading up to the stay and during the stay itself. I use the word ‘experience’ in the title because this turned out to be more than just a vacation stay at a house. They sought feedback about what we needed after arriving, and asked for our ideas to improve the experience for future guests. Our party of 7 could not come up with a single thing we would change. We are big fans of adding the Mauna Kea Resort access option, but this property will make us rethink that for future stays since there is plenty of beach gear and the infinity pool was so inviting.

A true getaway!

This was our 8th trip to Big Island. We specifically wanted this area and a private pool with property that was maintained. The property and its condition met all of our expectations and the pool exceeded them! Additionally, sheets, towels and beds were all comfortable and not worn. Definitely will try to rent on our next trip. We only had 4 of us but it was nice to have all the space. The kitchen was the best equipped and appliances were all top notch of any home we have ever rented. Since we wanted to chill and we all cook it was appreciated! My only suggestion for improvement would be to add a bag of ice to the freezer! Certainly not a complaint. Sunsets were spectacular and golfers were occasional and far enough away that it was not intrusive, but occasionally entertaining! It was a true getaway. We opted not to use the resort facilities and did not regret that decision.

This house holds many special memories for our family. It's our sanctuary, and it's our pleasure to share the peace and relaxation we find here with our rental guests, many of whom become our friends. We've been coming to Hawaii for 20+ years, and this is the island, and the house, we fell in love with and keep coming back to.

What makes this property unique

This is not your typical vacation rental with wicker furniture and a minimally equipped kitchen. Though the homes in this subdivision all have similar floor plans, our house was owned by full-time residents who spent the money to significantly upgrade the house with higher end materials, finishes, appliances and landscaping when it was built. Our family is in the interior design and furniture business, so these details meant a lot to us as we selected our home.
