Dog-Friendly, Secluded Redwoods Getaway With Private Hot Tub
**We have a minimum three night stay requirement for holidays and holiday weekends** **Winter midweek specials (M-Th) run January-April (excluding holidays and holiday weeks) - Rent two nights take 50% off the third night, rent three nights and the fourth night is free - please e-mail for booking and invoice change** Moonraker House is located approximately 107 miles north of San Francisco off historic and scenic Highway 1. Our house is one mile away from the ocean. Our two bedroom, two bathroom home has an upstairs deck, private hot tub, WiFi, cable televisions, a fully equipped kitchen with bedroom linens and bathroom towels provided. With 50 miles of private beach, bluff, and forest trails, picnic areas, tide pools, three recreational centers, two marine reserves, a fenced dog park, and an 18 hole championship golf course, there is something for everyone to do without leaving the local area. Gualala, the closest town, is 8.7 miles north with grocery stores, specialty shops, restaurants, a bank, post office, and gas stations. Six hundred fenced sheep and goats graze the common areas to eliminate fire hazards and follow The Sea Ranch philosophy of living lightly off the land. The artist community of Mendocino is fifty-eight miles north and Fort Bragg is nine miles north of Mendocino. Both places are perfect day trips to explore, shop and eat. Charter boats are available for fishing and whale watching in Fort Bragg. Grey whale migrate December through March and can often be seen off the shore or by boat. Seal pups are born late March and early April and can be viewed from the bluff trail above the reserve. Observe pelicans, cormorants, and oyster catchers from ocean bluffs and on the beach Redwood violets and trilliums bloom around our house in March and April. Then in May and June the Rhododendrons are in full flower.

It felt like being in a tree house and it was cozy and quiet. Several of the Sea Ranch trails were easily accessible. The kitchen was very well equipped. There were enough bath towels (not always the case in rentals) and towel bars. Two suggestions: 1) It was a little nerve-wracking having large glass pump bottles with soap and shampoo in the showers. 2) Many of the shades need adjustment or fixing - they were inoperable.
Overall we had a really wonderful stay. Made excellent use of the fireplace and kitchen and really relaxed. Communication with our host couldn’t have been better— we really appreciated the quick responses. A few issues with the hot tub breaker so there were a few times we weren’t able to use the hot tub (a main reason we booked the place) but once we finally figured out how to fix it we were good. Bedrooms are downstairs and a bit musty-smelling, one in particular very strong, which fortunately we didn’t need on this trip as it was just the two of us. Loved being so close to the Moonraker rec center and had that cute heated pool all to myself (February rain not popular for swimming, I guess). Thank you!
I was here for the third time for a solo getaway and I had the best time! The place is just perfect for a long stay or a quick getaway, well-stocked, comfy beds, scenic forest setting for the hot tub whether you're enjoying the sunshine or peeking at the stars through the redwood canopy. The location is unbeatable if you want quiet, yet just-out-the-front -door access to the incredible Sea Ranch trail system.
This property was perfect! So quiet and private, and the kitchen was well appointed which does not always happen in rental properties. The place was clean and I would go back there again and again!
We really enjoyed our short visit in this beautiful home. The location in the forest is serene and relaxing with easy access to the beach and great hiking trails. The home is clean and well-equipped and very quiet. Unfortunately the hot tub was not working during our visit so we look forward to returning again so we can try it out.
Very nice getaway for my husband and I. Plus we brought our dog too! We were able to enjoy the ocean and mountains. Nice place inside and out. So quiet and serene. This was an anniversary gift to ourselves and well worth it.
This wooded cabin has everything you need for an enchanting stay! This was our second time in this cottage and we just loved it! The huge trees just outside the dramatic windows are breathtaking, and the location can't be beat - a trailhead awaits just a couple of houses down. Kitchen is well stocked, the house is squeaky clean, beds are comfy, and fireplace is so nice after a day of exploring. We can't wait to come back!
Absolutely beautiful property nestled in the redwoods. The home was so welcoming and inviting. Definitely coming back. Could not think of better place to celebrate our anniversary!
Beautiful stay, host was so kind and flexible. Close to beautiful bluff walks and nestled in the redwoods. Quiet. The house had everything needed and there were lots of super soft blankets for my dog to use too. We both loved it and would recommend.
This property is set up the hill in the Redwoods at Sea Ranch. The house is comfortable, well-furnished, and beautifully decorated. The hot tub is great, and the owner was very helpful with trail advice. A most relaxing visit.

Memorial Day Weekend
My boyfriend and I had a wonderful weekend with lots of peace, quiet and privacy. There is plenty of room for 2 couples or a family with 1 or 2 children. The hot tub was sublime; the kitchen fully equipped; the decor was kitchy and fun. We can't wait to go back!

We enjoy our house at Sea Ranch because it gives us the best of two worlds, wonderful outdoor activity and peace and privacy without sacrificing basic comfort. We love morning coffee on the small back deck, the spa for relaxing and seeing stars from the deck. We are always happy to hear that others enjoyed it as well.
What a beautiful spot. This house was spotlessly clean, well maintained and just perfect for our stay. The kitchen was well appointed and had everything we needed to cook. My family had such a lovely time here and can't wait to stay again. Catherine is also very responsive to messages and seems to really care about her guests. I highly recommend staying here.

We found Moonraker to be very comfortable for us and our two chihuahuas. The kitchen was well equipped to meet my cooking needs. The bluffs, beaches and hiking trails in the area were easy to access. The owner and her housekeeper were very attentive in checking in to make sure we had everything we needed to make our stay perfect.

About the host
Hosted by Catherine Salm
My parents purchased our family vacation home in 1990 after several years of renting homes on The Sea Ranch and searching for the perfect home for us. My father wanted a house in the forest and my mother wanted something close to the ocean. This home is the perfect blending of the two.
Why they chose this property
We are blessed to be able to share our peaceful home with you. Since our house is located in the forest, we do not have the foot or road traffic the other places do. We rarely see people or cars in the area or on the trails nearby and appreciate the serenity. The ocean, towns and beaches are close by to explore and there are plenty of things to do in addition to just quietly relaxing in the redwoods.
