Details:
The Superintendent’s House epitomizes Crested Butte’s Victorian heritage, as acknowledged by its inclusion on the State of Colorado’s Register of Historic Places. Built in the 1880s, the house was relocated to Maroon Avenue in 1971 from its original location on Big Mine Hill. This large wood frame dwelling served as the residence for the Superintendent of Colorado Fuel & Iron Company’s mining and coke oven operations in the Crested Butte area from 1883 until 1952. The house’s design is representative of Colorado Fuel & Iron Superintendent housing in company towns throughout the state of Colorado. Built by the company, they were the most substantial and architecturally sophisticated residences in the community.
Today, the four bedroom, three-and-a-half bathroom property artfully combines historic distinction and modern refinement. The home retains the original oak wood flooring; its distinctive features also include crown molding, wainscoting, interior doors with transoms, and a gas fireplace. The spacious first level is comprised of a comfortable open floor plan, which is hard to find in Crested Butte. The open kitchen enjoys a breakfast nook, a six-burner Viking range and hood, a GE Profile dishwasher, a stainless steel Amana refrigerator, plentiful cabinet space, and granite counters. Very roomy for your family and friends.
Natural light pours into the living spaces on both levels of the home, yet the mature Spruce trees and southern orientation on its parcel create a sense of privacy and seclusion. Upstairs, the stunning vaulted ceilings feature skylights in each bedroom and reclaimed wood beams in the larger master suite. These skylights make for a very romantic and elegant feature.
Located in the town center of Crested Butte, the house is within walking distance of the town’s popular restaurants, bars, and shops. Other amenities within walking distance include Rainbow Park (1/2 block away), the recreational walking/biking path, the Upper Loop trail system, and the Slate River. The Superintendent’s House also features a landscaped yard, a classic wrap-around covered front porch, a backyard paver patio perfect for summer gatherings with furniture to enjoy outdoor meals, and a detached 1-car garage in the rear.

About the host
Hosted by Gregory Laake

I love CB and all it offers! I am a Texan and did not discover the mountains until I was in my 30s. I'm now retired and still ride big mountain freeriding. I backpack and fly my Cessna as a private pilot.
I really love sharing the home and its history. It's a really special property!

Why they chose this property
I have always loved the mountain life and this home is just the heart of Crested Butte for me, everything about it, the spaciousness, the location near Rainbow Park and the mountain views are just amazing. I love to be active and walking around everywhere and I can do this from my home. Walk everywhere, bike in the beautiful summer and enjoy the wonderful festivals CB has to offer.
What makes this property unique
This house was originally built in 1883. It's been renovated to modern standards but still has lots of original charm.
