Stunning, hand crafted yurt made on property. This secluded, colorful gem is like no other experience. Tucked away in the foothills of the Catskills, our organic farm has miles of hiking trails and mountain bike paths to explore! We also have many friendly ducks, goats, peacocks, chickens, donkeys, a horse and the friendliest dogs in the world that guests can interact with.
The space The yurt is a traditional temporary dwelling used by the nomadic indigenous people of Mongolia. This yurt was built during a class at Yestermorrow design and build school in northern Vermont that Joan participated in. We bought the finished product after the class concluded. This design was modified for modern living. The traditional smoke hole is now a plastic dome. The shell is made of waterproof vinyl rather then felted wool soaked in milk or fat. There is also a layer of insulation which keeps the temps more stable inside. Inside the yurt there is a folding memory foam queen size mattress that serves as a couch, but unfolds into a bed that lies on the floor. This is not a ‘fold out bed’ but more like a futon without the frame. The bathroom faculty is now a porta potty located just before you enter the parking area for the yurt, it is serviced weekly by the company who supplies the portapotties. Unfortunately we had to close down our lovely outhouse, due to health Dept requirements.
There is a 5 gallon jug of water set up on the sink outside the yurt for washing up. We provide a camp shower bag, but recommend using the outdoor shower by our barn which has hot water. We leave a hammock in its bag inside the yurt for guests to use. You must set it up yourself though, as we no longer leave hammocks outside because chipmunks kept eating the fabric! So, please put it back when you are finished using it. Please use provided water jug to extinguish any fire or hot coals in fire pit before you leave the yurt area.
Guest access Miles of hiking trails to explore, and guests are allowed to wander the farm. We ask that no one enter the animal pens though, but you can pet them through the fence. Other things to note Firewood is for sale at Yurt
This is a tent located deep in the forest and you might see small creatures, like mice or chipmunks, or insects. If you are afraid of insects or small forest creatures don’t book!
Small propane heater is available for use during cold winter months only. Directions are on heater. Please turn off when not in yurt!!
Can get muddy in early spring or late fall. Might require 4wd or a short walk

The host was great and always responded very quickly and being very friendly. We loved the yurt, nature and the farm animals, and had a fabulous stay. It was exactly what I was looking for: a beautiful retreat, simple living, enjoying nature and being away from busy lives, unplugging. Thank you!! I can definitely recommend this place.
Place was amazing, secluded, clean, and for the potential renters there is hot showers available at no additional cost.Bring a cooler and a smile and thats all you need, was alot of fun for an extremely good price, their are animals you can interact with if you want but if their not really your thing then the yurt grounds are free of them, would 100% stay here again but probably longer,we didnt need anything but the owners are readily available to answer questions and very friendly.Very safe space in my opinion,5 out 5 stars easssily.
My girlfriend and I needed a short stopover for one night on a road trip and this was perfect. The yurt was easy to find, private, and a fun glamping experience.
Stayed 3 nights in the yurt and had a really nice time. It’s a beautiful property to explore during the day and really pleasant to make fires and stargaze in the evenings. The host (Jason) is really quick to respond to any questions you might have via the vrbo messaging channel. Would definitely come back for a return visit to the farm!
This was the most beautiful and serene place I’ve ever stayed. As a Mongolian, bringing my family and little ones to experience a yurt surrounded by farm animals, stunning views, and such thoughtful accommodations was unforgettable. It truly felt like a home away from home—an experience we’ll always cherish. We can’t wait to come back soon!- Anira & Family
All I wanted was to check "stay in a yurt" off my Bucket List. What I didn't bargain for was all the other great things going on at the Magic Forest Farm. I wish we could've stayed longer to hike more trails, enjoy the spectacular view and frolic with all the farm animals. Make this place a must stay on your List.
Incredible experience! The yurt was clean, comfy, and peaceful!Jason was an excellent communicator. My wife, our dog, and myself had an amazing time! Will be back soon!
Please, for their safety, do NOT bring your dog(s) in the summer/around summertime. This yurt gets so hot that any breed is at risk of heat stress/exhaustion/stroke.Our dog is *not* a breed that is predisposed to it (*not* brachycephalic, thick/long-haired, or with large body mass) and he showed signs of worsening heat stress within the first hour. After he drank several bowls of water and spent another 30 minutes with the tiny fan running and yurt door wide open (it was relatively cooler outside than inside), he did not improve at all. Within two hours of arriving, we had to leave. It was not worth risking our dog's life for this experience/160. We notified the host he was experiencing signs of heat exhaustion before leaving and were offered an extra fan but nothing else.We had worried about the heat in advance and asked about the small fan in a photo. We were reassured, "The little fan in the yurt works with the power box. But nights are still pretty cool in June and you probably won’t need it." I sincerely appreciated Jason's prompt, detailed responses to messages, but this was sadly very false reassurance. We were also told, "The yurt also has a layer of insulation that helps keep temps more stable inside," but unlike in the winter when this might be helpful, this actually makes the yurt extra dangerous in hot weather. I understand nobody can predict a heat wave, but this yurt desperately needs to come with a warning that it is unsafe for dogs in the summer.
