About the host
Hosted by Christopher James
A native born Pittsburgher, I grew up in East suburban Pittsburgh.
I am a custom furniture designer / builder and carpenter now residing in East Texas with my girlfriend and three dogs.
I’m also a musician and an artist of many disciplines, and enjoy traveling and the outdoors as much as I can get into them.
Most of my interests are focused on design, architecture, and the interaction and influence of environments on everyday life.

Why they chose this property
When I purchased this home in 2011 as my first residence, Lawrenceville was still considered to be somewhat of a sketchy neighborhood from when it fell upon hard times after the steel industry tanked in the 1970s.
A small group of artists, entrepreneurs and small business owners took a chance on the neighborhood at that time, which became the genesis of the renaissance that was to come.

What makes this property unique
Nestled among more traditional three-story Victorian row houses that are more common to the neighborhood, this unique one story building was originally built in 1901 and was first used as a cobbler’s shop.
Over the next few decades it had mostly served as a corner provisions store until the 1950s when a family purchased it and converted it into a residence.
Upon purchasing it 2011, it hadn’t been updated since the 1970’s.
Having a love for older unique buildings, I was more than excited to take on the project of of converting it into the inviting modern space (my first home) that it is now.
