Perfect for small or large groups. Velvet Lake is a private lake great for swimming and fishing. Free use of our pontoon and we cover the first tank of gas. Room for tents or campers. Campfire area with picnic table. Shuttle service to Crosslake. Bringing your own boat? Whitefish chain public access is only 2.5 miles away and we have plenty of room for parking. Pets upon approval. We can make arrangements for any special needs. Only 2 1/2 hours from twin cities.

Excellent family retreat

Wonderful property for generational gatherings. This is our second time for a long Memorial weekend and it felt like coming home this year. Fishing, boating or just enjoying the view, it is perfect.

Great stay for a family weekend!

We had the best time here! It perfectly slept 4 couples, my niece and our dogs. We had a great time hanging out in the beautiful yard, swimming in the lake and catching fish off the dock. It was also awesome how close it was to so many great spots in crosslake. Larry was easy to communicate with as well. Definitely recommend!

Very nice, well kept, clean and spacious house with all of the amenities you'd want for your stay. Great Beautiful lake that is great for fishing. Pontoon was definitely a bonus which we enjoyed so much. Would definitely stay here again and recommend to my friends. Thanks Larry, it was nice meeting you.

Easy access to everything we needed in Crosslake. Beautiful, quiet lake with great dock and boat for our use when ever we wanted. Caught plenty of fish for dinner several nights. Kids loved it!

Great place for family stay

We enjoyed the house and the lake very much. It was quiet and peaceful. The house had lots of space inside and outside for the family. The only issue I had was with dog allergies in the house.

Our stay at Velvet Springs

The property, farmhouse and lake/pontoon were as described. Our granddaughters loved fish and release off the dock. The pontoon was alot of fun, everyone enjoyed it!. The farmhouse was immaculate, very clean and as described. Fun and interesting accommodations. Loved the eclectic art and decor. We will be back for a longer stay!!!

We had a great time! The house was very clean and was exactly as listed. Great location … the lake was beautiful. Larry was very responsive to our calls - and Heidi (the dog) was a joy to be around! Having the pontoon boat and paddle boat at the property was awesome! Would definitely return.

Labor day week with family 2024

Wonderful lake view, having the pontoon was great to get out on the water and enjoy nature; my chocolate lab mix had a blast roaming around chasing her tennis balls. The landscaping on the property is beautiful, we were kept in supply of firewood for bonfires every night! The Farmhouse itself is very eclectic, quirky, and beautiful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and Larry was a very very welcoming host. We will definitely be back.

Family summer lake vacation

We had such a great stay at Larry‘s house. It is like a museum like another person said about their stay. There is so much room for everyone. Lots of entertainment for all. Larry is also an amazing artist. Please check out his art on the walls. We would surely come back again.

Great time with family!

The fam and 2 pups had a great time hanging out at Larry’s place! The pontoon was awesome and we had a great time playing in the water with our dogs. It was the first time they experienced the great outdoors and they loved it! Had fun by the fire eating s’mores and sharing stories and laughs, and the foosball table was a hit too. Thanks for the memories!

A breath of the north.

Amazing time! Kids developed an itch for fishing after countless pan fish were caught. The accommodations were as expected and we were all very happy. 3 dogs ran themselves tired dodging in and out of the woods and water. 10/10 would like to experience it in January!

An awesome place for our annual family summer vacation. We were a group of 8, 4 adults, 4 kids (ages 10-6) + 2 dogs. Beautiful well-equipped home with lots to look at and gorgeous lake. Kids had a blast fishing, swimming, playing games, eating s’mores around the fire pit. House was very clean with plenty of a/c and fans. Nearby Cross Lake has a big grocery store with enough of the vegetarian and gluten free options we needed. We hope we can come again!

Velvet victorian

Quiet, relaxing. Private lake with many fish. Dishwasher did not get dishes clean. Otherwise all the amenities you could want.

yes thanks for sending a revue. after you left we began to look at the dishwasher, and found the fix. and replaced the water supply line. I almost bought a new dish washer, but it"s a Maytag them last a long time.

Family Vacation

The house was very clean and nicely decorated. We loved the patio where we hung out a lot. The playground was neglected and broken swings. It was great to have the pontoon until the motor stopped our last day. Larry was there and tried to fix it. It was fun running about the lake with the paddle boat. Overall we had a good time. Thanks Larry for sharing your home with us.

Lots of space in the house. 3 bedrooms upstairs and one down in the walk out basement. Unfortunately, the mildew/musty smell was very strong. I wouldn't have been able to sleep down there, my daughter and son in-law used the room. The gates didn't fit the stairs, but the two year old managed it well enough without it. No hot tub. We were able to open the door at the bottom of the basement steps and that's where the foosh ball table was. Washing machine and dishwasher were not working, but we made the best of it. The pontoon was a huge hit as was the fishing off the dock. So much fun and laughter catching numerous sunny along with bass, catfish and a bluegill. Allowing the dog to be with us was great. There were plenty of towels and beach towels. Our 4 year old and 2 year old enjoyed the plastic swing set. I loved the extra room in the on suite with the day bed. Beautiful view of the lake, very relaxing. It's a rustic old farm house with radiator heating and window air conditioning. Over all, we enjoyed our stay.

Great Getaway

The property was just as described. Use of the pontoon was a highlight of the trip. Tons of fish to catch off the dock and even more off the pontoon. Great swimming on the middle of the lake. Lots of breakable Nick-Nacks but was easily able to put them up higher where the toddlers couldn’t reach. Larry was extremely responsive to any issues or concerns. Only downside is that a realtor and huge family stopped by and wanted to tour the house during our stay - we declined because it felt like an invasion of privacy since our stuff was scattered everywhere. The garage door was opened and if we didn’t have the dogs in the house they might have done it anyways since they said they saw us on the pontoon but we were on our way back. Only recommendation would be to have an updated TV in the basement for movies on rainy days - the TV/VCR wouldn’t work properly. Also, the outdoor grill is older and the heat source isn’t very strong if you plan on grilling anything outside. Loved the stay otherwise!

Julie, my daughter has many years experience in housekeeping and was resident manager of a hotel for two years. Larry raises chickens, sells eggs, feeds song birds.

Moved to area in 1989 from Brooklyn Center to live by the lakes and trees. Located in the crow wing state forest.

What makes this property unique

pontoon included, room for camping, picnic tables, fire ring, fire pit, private, secure, park like setting, ideal for large groups. Great view of the lake. fire wood provided for one large one small fire ring. horse shoe area using real horse shoes! directly across the lake is undeveloped state forest land for the ones that like to explore. shopping and night clubs are 2.5 miles away. shuttle service is also available.
