3 bedroom, 2 bathroom lakefront home for 8 with canoe, kayaks and paddleboat
Greetings Travelers! I'm Marian, mother to 4 active boys ranging in age from 8-17 yrs old. We reside in a suburb of Austin, TX where I keep busy with my sons' football, basketball, baseball and school activities. "Me time" revolves around living the vacation life. Whether it is working on my own vacation home business, consulting other vacation home owners on generating income through short term rentals or helping clients purchase their dream vacation home, I LOVE everything about vacation homes. I'm a life long collector of miniatures and dollhouses. As an adult, I have trained in glass blowing and lampwork at Wheaton Arts in Millville, NJ. Each summer I become a HomeAway traveler when I visit Tigard, OR to glass blow at Live Laugh Love Art studio. I have a green thumb for growing a variety of ferns in my Texas home. Both owls and cardinals have a special meaning to my family. I've incorporated a little of each of these hobbies into the decor at Lakeside Ferns. Prior to opening Lakeside Ferns to HomeAway families, my family would evacuate Austin, Texas each May - August for cooler weather on Lake Pocotopaug. We made many memories each summer biking, boating, tubing and jet skiing on the water. For my sons, the memories they made with their dad over each year's 3 month vacation will stay with them forever.
Marian purchased this House in 2014
Why Marian chose Lake Pocotopaug
Lakeside Ferns became a vacation home as the result of the sudden and unexpected loss of my husband Eric in the fall of 2014. In an effort to delay any decision on what to do with our vacation home, I decided to share our beloved retreat with other families. What started out as a way to cover property taxes soon became the best business adventure I have ever experienced. Over the past two years I have had the pleasure of hosting the most wonderful guests ranging from Wesleyan University parents, wedding attendees, corporate relocation families, business travelers, girls' weekends, romantic getaways, and the usual family vacations. I appreciate the guests who have shared their reasons for travel being due to a loved one's illness or loss. My heart goes out to these travelers who I know in their time of sadness and grief can take comfort being together in a space that feels like home. What I have come to learn as a result of loss is that the time we take to be together is what matters in life. My sons will not likely remember the gifts their dad gave them for birthdays or holidays. I know they will remember the days spent laying on dad's chest while rocking in the hammock. The memories my boys have with their dad at the lake are what remain. I am grateful for the time we took out of our busy lives in Texas to enjoy our family while at Lake Pocotopaug. It has been my goal to provide a consistent vacation home experience in an environment which is clean, comfortable, safe and welcoming. It is my hope that this home allows guests of all ages to rest, relax and enjoy spending time with each other. Regardless of guests' reason for travel, I want every guest to connect with each other and take home what matters in life, experiences with each other.
What makes this House unique
Lakeside Ferns is not an investment property. It is a home, it is my family's vacation home which we enjoy through out the year. Teamwork has enabled Lakeside Ferns to provide travelers with a top notch experience. Living in Texas, I cannot be there for the day to day operations. Thanks to our original caretaker, Mark and current caretaker, Robert, maintenance of the home, yard, and and water equipment keeps the property running smoothly and safely. The housekeeping crew deserve much credit for making the inside of the home clean, safe and well stocked with all of the comforts of home. I have been fortunate to find a partners who share my vision for this business.

Beautiful lake view
This is a great property and space!!! Attention to detail is impeccable, the beds are gloriously cozy, and the property is secluded while at the same time less than 25min away from town/shops, activities, etc. Gillette castle is a fun excursion and worth the trip if you have the time. The fireplace was great and it was stocked with kindling as well as wood. Only negative I would mention is that there’s a space behind lakeside ferns which someone either occasionally occupies or perhaps another rental property; we weren’t told that someone would be in that space and the ceiling lights from inside that space shone directly into the bedroom facing the driveway which was a bit of a drag. But even with that, 5 star for sure!! Would recommend :)
A beautiful getaway location .
Hello to all,
We couldn’t have had a better experience at this home it was so completely furnished as if you lived in this home and not a thing missing down to the umbrellas or shopping bags to the local grocery store with a discount card.
Home was so clean with the king beds in each bedroom and from the main bedroom with its full glass looking out to the lake first thing in the morning to start your day or just to watch a thunderstorm would be just beautiful.
The home with its well stocked kitchen, firewood for the fireplace, pillows and blankets for the couch and chairs, many extra games, if there are young children you have two closets full of items with just about anything you may need for them.
The lake is gorgeous as we sat out there and viewed the moon for sometime with the temperature about15 deg. and enjoyed every moment of it. We where thinking how nice it would be in the summer to be out on the lake with a paddle boat or kayaks.
You could all be sitting out around a fire pit with family and friends this would be the place just to enjoy and relax for a perfect week.
Great home for a family weekend away!
We loved our stay at this beautifully located lake house and Marian was wonderful to work with. Thank you!
Fantastic lake front stay!
This location can not be beat! Quiet lake front home, beautifully decorated and immaculate inside and out. Plenty to do on the lake with various watercraft provided. Generous shaded porch allows for hours of nature watching whether it is the great blue heron that nests on the island across from the house, fish jumping just beyond a cast off the dock or the cormorants drying out on the rocks next to the island. In the small yard you can follow the flights of the numerous monarch butterflies and watch chipmunks as they roam to and fro. Sunsets can be unspeakably beautiful. Stargazing not to be underestimated for those of us city folk. The new fire pit this year provides one more special place to gather together and enjoy gentle lake breezes, cicadas and the call of an owl between special conversations -you know the ones that only happen around a campfire. The home is so well-stocked with everything needed to cook home meals or grill to one's heart's content. Bedrooms are spacious and comfortable, especially for those loving soft, sink in mattresses. Everything about the home is so welcoming and so well thought out. From the basket of lake towels to the umbrellas to shampoos in the bathroom. You can just come and relax! Inside fireplace and outside hammock just add more places to rest and rejuvenate. How could I forget about the tray of s'more makings in the kitchen?
Marian is very responsive and kind. When I couldn't find the brush for the grill all I did was text her and she texted right back then called to make sure I had found what I needed.
This is our second time staying at this location, a few years apart It is a very special home that just radiates loving care. We've come off season in the spring and now end-of-season early fall and both experiences have been terrific. Do come and see for yourself!
This owner has thought of everything to make your stay enjoyable. Well stocked kitchen, comfy beds, toiletries, games, spices, unexpected goodies. Attention to detail. Gorgeous lake view! Highly recommend.
Great house with amazing attention to detail
I expected a fantastic experience based on the other reviews and we got it. Great house with large BRs and plenty of space. But what really sets it apart is the owners anticipating your every need and providing everything you could want with high-quality accessories. She recently added a firepit area with the most amazing high-tech Solo stainless steel firepit I have ever seen. Newer Weber grills with covers, an available smores kit for the firepit with incredible different marshmallows and candies.
If you want to use the firepit a few logs are provided but you may want more - I brought some from home.
We did have some last-minute communication difficulties trying to work out an arrival time so I suggest you get that figured out ahead of time.
East Hampton is often referred to as "Belltown" for its rich history in bell manufacturing. Since 1832, Bevin Bros. have been manufacturing bells in this town. Today, in their 6th generation of family ownership, they are the only company in the U.S. dedicated to bell manufacturing.
You may not even realize how often you've heard a Bevin bell. Bevin Bros. makes most of the bells that the Salvation Army bell ringers use with their iconic kettles during the holiday season; it was a Bevin Gong Bell that opened and closed the NYSE for nearly seven decades; a Bevin Bell gave Clarence his wings in the iconic “It’s a Wonderful Life” movie; Good Humor trucks ignited the taste buds of children growing up as they rang their Bevin Bells throughout the neighborhoods; and many a prize fight featuring legend Muhammad Ali was marked by the gong of a Bevin Bell.
