Our home includes an elevator, 2 king bedrooms, 2 queen bedrooms, 2 bunk beds with two trundles, and a king size sleeper sofa on the 2nd floor. The kitchen is spacious, with 2 dishwashers and flows into a spacious living room with unbelievable views of the ICW! There are washer and dryers on BOTH floors for your convenience. A ping pong table allows for some fun for the kids and adults. There is an ice maker downstairs to ensure your coolers for the beach will be full at all times! If you want the best of both worlds, total privacy and a short walk to beach access, this is your home away from home!

The house was amazing. It had everything you could possibly need in the kitchen and beach. Would rent it again if we head back to Ocean Isle. The communication was amazing. I texted the host several times before and during our stay and she responded quickly. It was an amazing trip for our family (7 adults and 4 kids).

The property has it all. Easy walk to beach and backs up to the intercoastal waterway which is beautiful and peaceful. Well stocked kitchen. Easy communication and we all enjoyed the 2 TV’s around the pool & bar area so we didn’t miss any of the FIFA WORLD CUP while we enjoyed the pool.

This is by far the best vrbo we have ever stayed at! The host was quick responding with any need we had. The home was beautiful! The view of the marsh was breath taking! There is a boardwalk close by with a great walking trail. The beach is a short walk. The house was stocked so well! There is seasonings and oils, every utensil you could need and all the beach toys (including a wagon). Our girls lived in the pool! I highly recommend for families! We will be back to visit the Salty Heifer!!

The Salty Heifer

The house was clean, comfortable, and had all the things we needed plus for our family beach week at OIB. The view of the inter-coastal waterway from the back of the house was amazing! The beach was a short walk and the house even had a little wagon for all our beach stuff. Heather was a great host, responding quickly to any question we had. Definitely look forward to coming back!

Thanksgiving at Coast!

Our family stayed in this beautiful home for our Thanksgiving getaway! We have used VRBO frequently over the years and NEVER stayed in such a beautiful, well-stocked home with amazing hosts! Great Home / Great Host

Heather goes above and beyond! The attention to detail she has is not seen often in other rentals. The house is New and Very nice! Watching boats in the waterway with also a easy beach access.

Great family beach vacation

We stayed at this home with our adult children and our two grandchildren (ages 8 and 11). We really enjoyed the pool and the wonderful outdoor area with the two tiki areas and large televisions where we could listen to music/watch games. The home had just about everything we could need besides some paper supplies. They even had sand toys and a wagon for us to take the 5 minute stroll to the beach. We did get a little bit up at night (you should expect that) so I would recommend bringing lots of bug spray. It was great that the second floor had its own little living room and wet bar. Highly recommend it!

Amazing / Outstanding / Beautiful Owners:Heather is absolutely amazing! Communication is very quick through VRBO. She also leaves her personal cell when you stay and communicates very quickly. She was happy to answer any questions we had during the entire trip. She made the reservation / check in / check out process extremely easy. She is just a wonderful lady who truly wants you to enjoy her house. The House:It’s gorgeous / it’s clean / it’s incredible. The house had plenty of room for our 4 families. It is also very nicely decorated and the back faces the sound. The sound has a gorgeous sunset view and morning sunrise. Plenty of boats to enjoy watching. The other huge plus is currently there are no houses to your left or right and no one can build behind them. It’s your own little oasis. This house is also FULLY stocked with anything you need in the kitchen. They also provided ALL linen, All Towles, Tide Pods, Shampoo, Conditioner, and Body Wash.Amenities:-One of the best things this house has is an industrial ice maker in the garage. So convenient!-Two bars outside with two 65in TV’s behind them that can be seen from the pool.-The elevator was also convenient to get things to the top floor-PLENTY of fridge space. One full fridge in the garage / beer fridge behind outside bar / beer fridge in the bar room inside / Full fridge in the kitchen.-They also provide 8 nice beach chairs / some toys / and a wagon for your needs.Overall:This place is incredible.

Our family has been staying in beach houses along the Carolina coasts since 2008. This house has been our absolute favorite. The owners have thought of everything to make a beach stay perfect. The kitchen is well appointed, there are beach toys, chairs, a wagon, boogie boards, etc. The ping pong table was a super fun addition for when the rain swept through. The pool was easily the cleanest and well maintained pool we’ve seen at a beach house. All tvs had YouTube TV. The view is absolutely stunning. We saw a ton of wildlife and the sunsets over the marsh were unbeatable. I can’t say enough great things about this house. If you’re on the fence, book it. You won’t regret it!

We would like to thank you for considering our beach home for your vacation. Our family is from a small, but growing community, Harrisburg NC, which is just outside of Charlotte. Our story begins with our great grandfather Theodore, purchasing a 200 acre farm in 1906, in what is now the University City area of Charlotte, NC. Originally a dairy farm, over time, my grandmother transitioned it into a beef cattle farm when the boys all grew up and started different careers. As God would have it, luckily, my Dad, Tommy came home from the Air Force in the 50’s and ended up becoming a full time farmer like his Dad and Grandad before him. I moved to the farm with my Mom and Dad in 1975, and it has been a wonderful life for our family and for our children to also grow up there. Over the years, out of necessity, some of the farm was sold to Duke Power Company, and we ended up having around 50 acres left. As was God’s perfect plan all along, we sold the farm in December 2023. We really struggled to know what to do with the proceeds. Something that would extend our memories of the farm by seeing it become something else meaningful for, Lord willing, generations to come. We decided to roll the sale of the farm into a beach house and name it, The Salty Heifer, so that when asked, we can always tell of our family history and how this beach home became possible. Our family created so many wonderful memories over the 100 + years on the farm, and we hope The Salty Heifer will help create new, but lasting memories for our friends, family and guests!

Why they chose this property

Our family fell in love with the quiet, east side of OIB! We first visited this property in January while it was still under construction. It was just framed up, but we felt it was special. The elevator hadn’t been installed yet, so we headed up the stairs to the top floor. When we reached the top step, we looked left, Stood one look at the incredible view of the intercoastal waterway, we knew this was the home for us.

What makes this property unique

Pictures can’t do it justice! The gorgeous views of the intercoastal waterway are spectacular! You have ocean views from the front porch and the intercoastal on the rear decks. There is an immediate feeling of peace and relaxation once you step on the property, and especially when you walk around back. Enjoy a cup of coffee, a beach novel or a glass of wine and good conversation on any deck or the pool patio! The pool area has an outside tiki bar with a TV, and one inside tiki bar that has a roll up garage door that opens up to the pool area. So, even when you get those morning or afternoon beach rain showers, no worries, you can keep the party going! We have a ping pong table, dart, and corn hole boards and all kind of other games to play. What we also added, that might not sound like a big deal but you will love, is a commercial ice maker on the first floor! You never have to worry about running out of ice at The Salty Heifer!
