About this property
"Ridge Haus" tiny cabin on the creek at Waldbaden
Please check on our new listing, "Ulysses", if the cabin you are looking at is not available on the date you are desiring to visit.
Stay in a truly unique, two story tiny home style cabin with a porch almost over looking a creek, and 30 acres of woods, hills and wild life. Explore the trails and experience nature conveniently near the lively culture and arts town of Athens, Ohio, and Ohio University. However, please note that the staircase is narrow and the second floor has low ceilings which may not be suitable for some guests.
'Waldbaden', our name for the land where we have built cabins, is the German word(s) for 'forest bathing'. The concept behind 'forest bathing' is that the trees are therapeutic for mental and physical health. We are not experts in the practice of 'waldbaden' but we definitely find our bit of forest rejuvenating and we hope you do too.
Please feel free to walk the trails and see the nature, but also be aware that it is mostly untamed nature and that your exploration is at your own risk.
* Steps are narrow and a little steep inside the cabin.
** We keep our cabins clean and tidy. However, they are located in a forest, and occasionally, insects visit them. We do not use pesticides as the residual chemicals of using them are likely to cause harm to our guests and nature, where as the insects are not. Please be aware of this, as we do not offer refunds for the presence of nature.
*** Because of the surrounding geography the wifi connection is unpredictable.

This was an impromptu weekend getaway, and the best choice ever for the beauty and break we needed! The owners were fantastic communicating with us, especially when we thought we might need to add an extra person. I know it’s cliche, but every little corner had a thoughtful touch! The setting was so quiet and the trails were beautiful and well-maintained -right out the back of the cabin. Such a charming place to stay!
I loved my stay here! The cabin is cute, comfortable, and clean. The location is splendid. I came out for a couple days because I wanted to relax and spend some time in nature, and this was perfect - birds and frogs were singing all day, sitting on the porch and reading while the rain fell on the creek, trails nearby. It was just lovely. And, bonus, the owners didn’t leave a mile-long list of chores to be done by the guest at check-out, just a few basic courtesies that I was happy to do. I’ll absolutely be visiting again.

Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm glad you had a wonderful stay. It was a pleasure hosting you, and I hope to welcome you back again in the future!
We were looking for somewhere other than a hotel while touring Ohio on college visits for my daughter. This was the perfect “unplugged” relaxing night we were hoping for.

Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication
Disliked: Location, listing accuracy
Clean Cabin
It was not what I thought, much smaller than imagined. Maybe since we are seniors, it was not ideal for us. We only stayed one night vs 2 that we planned.
Peaceful, beautiful cozy getaway for a couple that loves nature and each other. Sitting on the porch, you can listen to the serenade of bullfrogs, comfortably relax outside by the fire. Use Care on the staircase as the steps are steep.
Personality, care and craftsmanship was poured into the entire property. From the superb woodworking and the beautiful trails, to the cutest little orange koi that we shared our breakfast with! The hostess with the mostest was so helpful, who upon our request, led us around the property and told us the most charming stories of hobgoblins and various town histories and then gave us some much needed directions (like where to find cell signal lol) We can’t wait to stay again!

Thanks so much for staying with us and drawing a hobgoblin in our book!
For transparency: The listing is accurate, but I made a mistake when I booked this cabin. I did not read it well enough so that's on me. We are seniors & the stairs were okay going up but not coming down - had to go sideways & hold on.This cabin is great for those who like to be off the grid/unplugged. It's in a beautiful setting and very quiet. The woodwork in it is beautiful. A/C worked great, both up & downstairs. Recommendations: Give a few more details in the check in book about what can be recycled - places have different rules for what can / can't be recycled. Also, note where extension cords are - I didn't find the one behind the radiator in bath until our last day.Shower: Install a small shelf for soap/shampoo, etc. It's about the size of a cruise ship cabin shower. The shower head is up high and it was a challenge to soap up while the water washed it off at the same time. Consider a removable shower head vs guest turning off the water completely.Internet: It's a desert. Could not make or receive phone calls except over FaceTime audio. That's a concern. Surprisingly, we could text. Not sure about cost, but maybe look into a starlink for those who do want to be plugged in.Kitchen: Provide a coffee scoop. Check sugar bowl for critters or provide other storage options.
My family and I are artists. I'm originally from Ohio, and my wife is from Hong Kong. We lived in NYC, Hong Kong, and now Ohio. We also spend a lot of time in Hokkaido, Japan. We love culture, travel and most of all creating things. These cabins on this land is one of our dreams. We've poured our souls into building them from nothing. We really hope you enjoy them and the beautiful forested land, hills and rock formations that surround them.
Why they chose this property
Our location is a 10 minute drive from OU and uptown Athens, but it feels like you are far out in the wilderness. Quite unusually for Appalachian Ohio, there are all kinds of shopping, restaurants, and other amenities in town and around it. Biking, hiking, parks and cultural happenings are nearby. Live music happens in a variety of venues on an almost nightly basis. Athens has three micro breweries and the brewery Little Fish is almost at the end of our road. The Plains, which is also quite close, has some of the above as well.
What makes this property unique
Nature, comfort and unique design. This cabin is cozy and comfortable with great nature views, especially from the porch.
