About this property
Stunning mountain views, quiet, peaceful, unique, private attached guest suite
This is an attached, 3-room guest suite in our unique, lovely home. While we are nearby, you have complete privacy. Nestled on a rural, beautiful, open 5 acres, our suite offers breathtaking views of the Three Sisters. Tucked away at the end of a dead-end road, surrounded by hundreds of acres of Forest Service and BLM land, it feels like a secluded oasis. Yet, it is just a 15-minute drive to Sisters and 30 minutes to downtown Bend, ensuring you're never too far from civilization. This is a truly special property.
Come and immerse yourself in the beauty of the Cascades. The Bend area is a nature lover's paradise, with numerous hiking, walking, biking trails and stunning lakes, all within an hour of our property. It is incredibly peaceful and quiet here, allowing you to relax, watch birds and wildlife, swim in our pond, and simply commune with nature. Our night skies are dark and perfect for stargazing. All water on the property is delicious and pure from community wells. We also have several art installations in the landscape, all made with natural materials, adding to the sense of adventure and discovery. The possibilities for outdoor activities are endless, promising an exciting and fulfilling stay.
PARKING. There is dedicated parking to the right of our home and your private entrance around to the left. You have a private patio with two chairs, two lounge chairs on the lawn, a sun umbrella, and a propane firepit, all with a spectacular view of the Three Sisters. Upon request, we can also provide a charcoal grill.
KITCHENETTE. The kitchenette has a dining table for two by a large picture window with a view of the mountains. It also has an apartment sized refrigerator/freezer, Ninja XL Pro Air Oven, two electric frying pans (sm & lrg), microwave, Keurig coffee maker, coffee press, electric kettle, toaster, and crockpot. There is a nice long counter for food prep.
Right off the hallway, is a shared room with a large sink available for your use in our laundry room. There is also some additional hanging space if needed, and/or suitcase storage. You can have access to our washer/dryer for stays over a week.
BATHROOM. The bright, modern bathroom is off the hallway. It has a full-length mirror, marble countertop, shower, and deep soaking tub. We provide towels, washcloths, a hair dryer, bath soap, shampoo, rinse, hand soap, body lotion, and makeup wipes. Extra bath towels, beach towels, hand towels, and washcloths are in the cupboard if needed.
BEDROOM. The bedroom is at the end of the hallway at the far end of the house and has a queen bed with a view of the mountains. If you like it dark at night, you can close the blackout curtains. Keep them open for a view of the morning light on the mountains. There is a comfy leather couch with a long ottoman, a small electric fireplace, an open-hanging clothes rack, a mirror, a wood chest of drawers, a satellite TV. Each side of the bed has a small nightstand with a lamp and device charging station. There are plenty of extra blankets and pillows if needed.
HEATING AND COOLING. We have radiant in-floor heating and air conditioning throughout the house. This keeps it warm in winter and in the low 70s in summer. We will adjust the temperature upon request. The sun warms the guest suite up nicely,
BOOKS. The bedroom and the kitchenette have an eclectic selection of books for your reading pleasure, including guidebooks of the area and other parts of the world. We also have cards, runes, and dominos.
GAMING: Due to our satellite system, playing games on the TV requires our advance approval and may incur extra charges.

About the host
Hosted by Beky Townsend

When we built our home, the guest wing was intended for our family and friends. We subsequently made some changes to convert the space to a guest rental. For the last six years, it has been extremely rewarding to welcome guests, and using a different platform we always had a 5-star rating. We are pleased to now list on VRBO.
We have a somewhat shy but friendly, protective border collie (Cali) and two older cats (Boo and Stanley). Cali is off-leash and stays on the property and is often in the pond. Cali barks to protect our property – it’s her job. She is mostly pretty quiet. We keep all our animals inside at night due to local coyotes.
When Spring comes, you will see tiny frogs of many colors everywhere, nesting swallows swooping elegantly over the pond, dragonflies, and an abundance of flowers. It's quite glorious.
Gary and I retired from the Bay Area to Bend in early 2015. Gary is a native Californian, and I am from Honolulu but spent my adult life in Marin County, CA. We truly feel the wonder and enchantment of rural Central Oregon here at the foot of the Three Sisters. Life has become incredibly rich for us as we continue to explore the beauty and intimacy of the natural world. We both relish canoeing, hiking, birdwatching, wildlife, and trips in our vintage trailer. We are adventurers and love to explore the back roads and natural beauty of the world. We also love to explore our inner world, who we are becoming, and the mysteries of life from new and ever-changing perspectives. Gary and I are both artists with our unique expressions. I chose to focus on bronze figurative work, and Gary has a love affair with wood. He has made several elegant pieces of furniture in our home. We also worked together on four landscape installations on our property.

Why they chose this property
Our lovely little community on Delicious Street and Barbara Way consists of almost 13 invisible homes, mostly nestled amongst the trees and unseen by others. We all enjoy the quiet and the wild, respect and protect each other's privacy and individuality, and we all have an ongoing love for the area.
Our home was completed in January 2016 and is made from unique building materials. We used local pumice, a Portland cement and lime blend, and then poured it into forms to make 14” exterior walls. The pumice creates air pockets in the walls so they breathe and insulate. The exterior walls are stucco, and the interior walls combine non-toxic paint and a beautiful soft Italian plaster in warm and comforting colors. The flooring is wire-brushed wide-plank white oak, and we have 10-foot ceilings for a spacious feeling. With radiant heat and a cooling system, we stay comfortably warm in the winter and cool in the summer. The house is full of light.

What makes this property unique
Our view of the Three Sister is quite spectacular, and the peace and quiet is almost deafening. We are only 15 minutes from Sisters, and 30 minutes from Bend, but you would think you were out in the middle of nowhere. It’s a great place to relax after a day of adventuring, exploring, or working in town.
The ever-changing sunsets and cloud formations over the Sisters can amaze, excite, and take your breath away. At night, when it’s clear and dark, the stars are abundant and the Milky Way is brilliant. It’s a great place to star-gaze without the city lights and to have fun looking for shooting stars and UFOs.
Our pond, which is close to the house, attracts many local and migrating birds. We have nesting tree swallows that return every year to our 10 bird boxes under the house's eaves. You may also see mountain bluebirds, Clark’s nutcrackers, flycatchers, flickers, robins, warblers, ravens, Canada geese, a wayward duck or two, and even shore birds who fly through at certain times of the year. We are constantly surprised and delighted by their presence.
Our pond was built for play and for swimming. It has an easy sandy beach entry on the south side and is 6 feet at its deepest. It’s refreshing to take a dip during the hot summer months.
