Welcome to the beautiful rugged West Coast. Home to Tall Tree Music Festival, and Song'nSurf. You will see bald eagles flying around, and loads of humming birds. Just a 5 minute walk to the beach and marina. We are at the end of the cul-de-sac and we are the most private property surrounded by cedars on all sides. Our property is larger than most. The name, "A Shack In The Woods" was chosen for personal reasons. It is not a shack by any means and we are not totally secluded . A lovely cottage by the sea, built in 2011 with approximately 450 SF. The fire pit area has slate all around and is hidden by the cedars. Firewood is supplied at no charge. Fully equipped kitchen with all the amenities you will need to cook up that great catch of the day! BBQ on the deck that is enclosed, which makes it ideal for your child or pet. The bedroom has a queen size bed with 2" foam topper. You have patio doors to take in the lovely sun that shines all afternoon at the front of the cottage. Ideal for those who love to sunbathe! There is a queen size hide a bed in the living room with a top of the line mattress, without bars. Sheets and quilts are provided. The bathroom has a tub/shower and is supplied with towels, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. There is a table for 4 in the kitchen. Flat screen TV, Netflix and wifi supplied. There are some games to play and some kids toys. A pet bed, dishes, toys and leash are also in the cottage. You will find 4 comfy chairs around the fire pit. Star gazing at it's best! There is loads of parking on the property. **NEW** January 2022: Brand new propane stove for extra heat and POWER OUTAGES. Great area for hiking, fishing, crabbing. exploring, swimming, kayaking etc.. Avatar Grove is close by and Botanical Beach is at the end of the roadway, approximately 10 minutes by car. There are three restaurants : Tomi's, The Coastal Kitchen and the Renfrew Pub. You will find a book inside, with all the information you may need. There are fishing charters at the marina that you can hire. There is a very good chance that you will see and hear Killer whales and humpback whales. A fantastic get away from the city. Cozy and romantic, yet ideal for 1 couple, or a couple with kids. Because Port Renfrew is wild and windy at times, we may experience unforeseen power outages. We have candles inside and a great firepit outside.

Hi Cindy,
Thank you for your review. It's always great to get away. I am glad that you enjoyed the fire pit. It is such a relaxing way to end the night!
Stay safe, social distance.
All the best,
Karen
The cabin located in a vacation home strata, so there are several other cabins in this neighbourhood. Yet, it is private and surrounded by trees. The front deck is a wonderful space rain or shine. The cabin was very cozy and warm.
Thank you for sharing your lovely place
Comfortable and convenient stay to access Botanical Beach and hikes along the coast. Basic kitchen set up, for vacation meals. Slightly annoying there weren't enough coffee filters for the days we stayed, but other supplies were fine. Loved that the porch had a fence/gate, so our fur child could lie in the sun without being tied up. It was a pleasant rental and we'd do it again.

Hi Jermaine,
Thank you for taking the time to submit a wonderful review.
I thought that I should mention to you that you didn't need coffee filters because there is a permanent filter in the tray! I am sorry you had that problem.
I look forward to hosting you again!
All the best,

The cabin was incredibly private and peaceful! This was just what I needed to spend a few days recouping and relaxing. Slept like a rock in the super comfy bed, in fact when I got home it made me realize how many lights were on in my home disrupting my sleep and how I needed softer pillows, I now sleep better at home! Close to a dog friendly beach and all the attractions in the area!! Highly recommend! Karen was an absolute sweetheart, quick at responding and would message me on road updates as I stay between major storms.

Hi Sarah,
Thank you so much for your wonderful review! I am glad that you sleep better at home now. It is crazy how many things are lit up at night. Of course being out in Port Renfrew you don't have to worry about that! It is good to get away and have a break. When are you coming back lol. I look forward to hosting you in the future.
All the best to you.
Kind regards,
Karen
A wonderful time at our rental property in Port Renfrew, ample parking, nicely furnished, had all the supplies we needed for our weekend.Karen's direction are on point. LOVED the firepit!!! Close to all attractions. Just enough room for 3 adults, 4 may be to many I feel. I would highly recommend The Shack in the Woods. We hope to return.

We were unable to check in on time as the owner was there working on his boat in the drive way. I don’t think the place was cleaned that well as there was a pile of sand in front on the slider to the master bedroom, there was garbage left behind at the fire pit, the toilet would not fill/flush, the shower was clogged and was extremely slow to drain as well there’s a big stain on one of the couch cushions. We made the best of our time but I had to pass on this message as I was not super excited about the state of the rental.

Hello Mike,
I am reading the email that you sent me and it's a bit different from what you have written here.
The first thing you told me was that I have a beautiful rental. If you remember our conversation (by email), my husband was just finishing up working on his boat. As I mentioned, it was his first 4 hour window of opportunity to work on his boat after guests had stayed a week. He told you who he was and that he had lost track of time. You told me that it was not a big deal! At no time did he enter the cottage, as he mentioned, and there was nothing preventing you from going inside. Immediately he went and purchased you a bottle of red wine that you and your guest were quite happy and excited about, and said that it was very kind of him to do! You also told me that it was no big deal that the toilet didn't flush because you took the top off and put the line back on that had popped off.
Staying at A Shack in the Woods was a wonderful experience. The pictures online honestly do not do it justice! The cabin was a bit larger than expected, as was the outdoor space! We made use of the full kitchen as well as the firepit. A great feature was the built in grill on the firepit and all of the dry firewood we could need. We met one of the owners, Reid, and my husband was able to help him out a bit with his boat and we were pleasantly surprised when we were brought a fresh caught Coho in the evening that we cooked over the fire! The cabin is located at the end of the cul-de-sac so you only have one cottage to your right so there is a lot of privacy. We liked that we were right near the walking path so we could bring our dog out easily for walks when he wasn't on the deck. We will definitely be staying at this cottage again! It is so difficult to find clean, comfortable, and secure accommodations when you have a pet, and I am so happy we found A Shack in the Woods. I will be recommending this to our friends and family as well :)

Hi Corinne,
Thank you for your glowing review! I am thrilled to hear that you had a wonderful experience and enjoyed the cottage. Reid, Ryan and Phil appreciated and enjoyed your husband's expertise and willingness to help with Reid's boat. Reid was happy to hear that you enjoyed your coho, especially over the firepit! I look forward to hosting you again.
All the best, Karen
I was rather apprehensive as I had never stayed at this type of rental before. To say I was overjoyed is an understatement. This property is everything advertised and more. Love, love love! MJ, Al, Hilda and Luna 🐶
Directions to the cottage were perfect. Had lunch at the pub while watching a great blue heron hunt for his lunch. Such a great location for sightseeing

About the host
Hosted by Karen Felske
I am a fun loving wife and mother to three adult children, and 2 beautiful grandchildren. I love to go fishing, go on walks, amateur photography, gardening, travelling, crafting, and being near the ocean. I currently have a black Pug, and an English Cream Retriever.
Why they chose this property
We bought this cottage for ourselves in 2011. We chose this one because it offered the most privacy, and has the largest lot. We love the cottage, and coming to Port Renfrew. The area is filled with so much to do. Watching the hummingbirds go wild over the honeysuckle vine on the deck, spotting eagles. The ocean is minutes away.
What makes this property unique
Not on the main road! Privacy, great fire pit. Propane stove for extra comfort and power outages. A peaceful, tranquil place to be!
