About this property
Beautiful Vintage Schoolhouse
This is a 5,000 sq ft farmhouse. It was built in 1891 as the local one room schoolhouse, bell tower and all. The home is amazing with tons of character. There are 2 master suites, one with a fireplace and balcony. There are two other small bedrooms. 5 bathrooms total. Family room with smart t.v. , a kids playroom, and a bright, sunny kitchen with stainless steel appliances. A beautiful dining room with a 13ft farm table. A pool, jacuzzi and raised vegetable beds in the backyard. A fuji apple orchard. A large open grass field, for football, volleyball, or running around. We strongly suggest safe swimmers only, as the pool is not fenced in . We do not allow children under ten for this reason unless it is cleared with me . There is a guest house on sight . This houses up to 4 people on the upstairs unit and 2 on the downstairs. You may expand your group and rent these as well . (At times , there are renters in the guest units and grounds may be shared . )Most often you have grounds to yourself, but ask to be sure . We are happy to block the guest units so you have grounds to yourself without other guests . Although, on occasion when Mike and I are not traveling , we stay in the upper guest house and give you utmost privacy . We will have our pooch with us , a 3 yr old Golden Doodle very friendly , so he occasionally will be out in the yard ....if you or your children are afraid or do not like dogs this will not be a fit . Thanks ! Any questions just pls inquire …. Diane & Mike
During Covid we are doing our best to keep it separate, although one night may overlap . We have a special “ experience “ option you can book , if you’d like to have a date night or a special baby boon , birthday evening or even an engagement. This is a private specialized picnic that is all catered to your needs . Hosted by “Mimis Picnics “ she is for hire with at least one week notice . A beautiful charcuterie board, wine or sparkling waters ... etc etc . Ask Diane if interested . Or Instagram @mimispicnics and message Mimi direct .

We came for a couple of days to find some quiet and some space. The Schoolhouse was such a cool spot with all of its history plus the pool! Definitely offered quiet and space and was great for our family. Diane and Mike are lovely people who made us feel very welcome.

Great to have met you and your beautiful family ! Best to you all ! Come back again when you can :) blessings … Mike & Diane
Our stay was absolute perfection, from the first moment of communication, to the seamless arrival, and our entire stay. The home is completely magical, such a special home, with loads of room to relax, and enjoy. We rented the entire space, and loved the pool, the amazing kitchen, the giant dining table, and all the beautiful eclectic touches in the home. The hosts were easy to communicate with, and were there for any and all of our needs. We will LOVE to come back again, and again!!! Thank you!!
Very relaxing and enjoyable stay - would love to visit again. Well equipped kitchen, lots of space to spread out - and the pool, hot tub and outdoor dining made it feel relaxing.
We totally enjoyed the home and amenities. Such a different home, but very comfortable and met all of our needs. The pool was the star of this trip for us. We will return.
We had a great time! This home is simply beautiful, peaceful and quiet. Truly a beach, farm feeling with a fantastic pool that our kids LOVED!

It was a pleasure to have your families. Your daughters were a delight to see in the pool & jaquzzi constantly playing with the dogs. My heart warms when I am around such loving families that appreciate the historic Schoolhouse & its grounds. Thanks for all the love you gave to Bear, we appreciate it! Take good care, and come back again one day ? Diane & Mike
This house is beautiful and the yard was huge and perfect for our family gathering. The owners do stay on the property in a separate guest house while you’re there, but they respect your privacy and are extremely friendly. The rules for dogs are pretty strict, which makes sense to keep the house so clean and maintained, but if you are planning to bring any pets and don’t trust them outside while you’re away I would reconsider bringing them. Overall we had a very welcoming and nice stay and would recommend to any families needing a big house like this!

Thank you for choosing our home to stay for your family gathering . We so enjoyed meeting all of you And really got to know a couple of you well , with some very nice talks . Yes , we do allow pets with a pre approval ahead of time . We like to make sure the pets are able to be in a crate if you leave them home and or are yard safe while you are away ..... we usually do not like pets left home alone without this agreement .
I do wish you all the very best and thank you again for leaving the home so tidy upon departure.

We recently stayed here with our two kids and another family. The property is the perfect size for all of us. Although it says kid friendly, I would say only if you have kids 5+ years. We had (2) 3yr olds and had to close off one of the rooms for fear of them breaking something.

Room for improvement
While this was in a very pleasant setting, we feel that there was room for improvement in the small details. This is a charming quiet property that was very convenient for our purpose of being in the area.
However, it seems like the owners were not prepared for us. When we called to say we were in the area, they mentioned that the previous guests had just left and that things would not be ready for a while. We spent a couple of hours over lunch to give them some time.
It would have been nice for there to have been toiletries for the shower. Towels were not made available to us until the next day but there were a couple of "pool" towels that we used.
The kitchen was stocked with pots and pans as well as with plates and flatware. But it was thrown together and not made easy to find what one might need to prepare a meal. Not conducive to home cooking if that is what you might anticipate.
Our big concern was the bed. With two in it, it sagged and was not comfortable.

Pure paradise!
Diane and Mike we fantastic hosts and their property was pure paradise. The barn feels private and has everything you'd need and lounging by the pool was serene and lovely. Diane is a great cook (take her up on her offer to cook) and is happy to be as available as you do or don't want. We will definitely return.

Very welcoming & hospitable!
Our family enjoyed a lovely stay over Easter and spring break. Diane, Mike & family were so welcoming & hospitable, from fresh flowers and a hand written welcome note to a bag of treats for our kids, to homemade and delicious lemon bars! The guest home is super comfortable, has all the conveniences of home and is beautifully appointed - modern, comfortable and homey. We all enjoyed the pool and hot tub. Sitting on the balcony in the morning and drinking our coffee while overlooking the beautiful green view was a favorite thing to do throughout our stay. And the kids loved having plenty of space to spread out, roam & explore. Diane was more than willing to share ideas of things to do in the area and gave us a great idea for what turned out to be one of our favorite outings - Avila Farm, as well as the playground at Avila Beach. Overall, a wonderful experience and very accommodating & gracious hosts! We would certainly return for another visit.

Lovely week in Arroyo Grande
I was one of the first guests to stay in this beautifully furbished guest house on a spectacular property. It is elevated and has a view of the property, the interior decor is fresh and has everything a self-contained guest house requires: great couches, a bath, all kitchen facilities, comfortable bed and linens and the patio and pool of course top it off. Diane and Mike made my stay so enjoyable, especially seeing as I was travelling with my little baby, they treated us like family, visiting farmers markets, beaches, yoga studio's and shops. The setting is tranquil yet accessable to the lovely surrounding towns and SLO. I would recommend this guest house to anyone. Diane and the family are a wonderful example of Californian hospitality.
About the host
Hosted by Diane Puhek
I am a Yoga Instructor, a mom and a wife of 30 years . I love to decorate, cook, read, bake, eat. and go to the movies. My passion, though is traveling, and traveling with my family. We have been fortunate enough to travel the world with our four children who are now ages 30,29,28,22 We have a puppy, Golden Doodle, BEAR , ADORABLE !!!!
Why they chose this property
We lived in this home, and feel it is such a blessing and a unique place to live we want to share it. We love to travel and hope to fill our home with people who appreciate to travel and stay in cozy homey places. Now that all of our children are gone in college and working, we are living in this huge house & wanting to share it.
What makes this property unique
Well, beacuse we live here, sometimes we take it for granted. The frogs lul us to sleep at night, the birds sing all day every day. The micro climate weather is awsome especially when you hear it is socked in and foggy at the coast. The space is nice, privacy and mature trees surround you. The kitchen is open and airy and relaxing to bake in. The BBQ is next to the pool, and is a perfect set up for entertaining family and friends.Sitting in the warm jaquzzi at night under the stars is one of our families favorite traditions. We have raised beds that grow our kale, broccoli, beets, carrots and we have fuji apple trees....100 of them:) This home is located in the country on a dirt road. We are about 8 minutes from town, 10 minutes to the closest beaches. We are about 20 minutes to San Luis Obispo. The benefits of this home are that you get the privacy and quiet of the country with no close neighbors, yet not too removed from the village of AG, or Slo town.
