About Gary and Tracy Walker
We are Gary and Tracy Walker. We live in Western North Carolina and have a love of the Carolinas' coast. We have especially loved the Wilmington area for years and had dreamed of owning a home near there and the beaches. As of 2015 that dream became a reality. Pelican's Perch is now our home away from home and the place in which we plan to live when we retire. Both of us are graduates of Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. Currently Gary works in sales and Tracy is a RN employed by the State of NC. We have two great young adult "kids", plus our little dog, Charlie. We very much appreciate our vacation renters and we strive to make their experience the best it can be.

Why Gary and Tracy Walker chose Kure Beach
Kure Beach, Carolina Beach, and the Wilmington area in general make up some of our very favorite places. We love the weather, the people, the beaches, the food, the live music, and the abundant nature and wildlife of Pleasure Island. The intracoastal waterway, marina, and boat access areas are just perfect for boating enthusiasts. Nearby Wilmington provides a cool downtown scene and Riverwalk with excellent food and drinks overlooking the Cape Fear River. Pelican's perch is situated on the island's second row of beach homes, which means the beach is right across the street. Simply put, it's just a perfect location in a wonderful place.
What makes this House unique
We believe that Pelican's Perch beach house is among the best houses on the island. Its location right between the town centers of Carolina Beach and Kure Beach makes it very convenient to all points of either town, and both towns offer their own charming personalities and attractions. On each end of the island there are stretches of undeveloped beach that you can actually drive your 4 wheel drive vehicle on. There's an access fee but these beaches are a sight to behold. To the north is Freeman Park where fun-loving people flock to party, fish, and camp right with their vehicles on the beach. On the south end is the more family-friendly State Park where alcohol is not allowed and you'll see a bit more nature. If you've got a 4 wheel drive then these rare beach-driving areas are sure to please. You don't have to drive anywhere to enjoy a beach, though. Pelican's Perch is across the street from the community's private beach access and gazebo. When we say the house is just steps from the beach we really mean it! One of the best and least-crowded strands of beach on the island is right there for you to enjoy. The house's 2nd row corner location means you also have direct access to the neighborhood streets that are off the higher-traffic main road. That's worth a lot for relaxing bike rides or for taking the "back way" to bypass heavy main road traffic when going out. You don't have to pay ocean front prices because it's on the second row, but because of the beach access area you get a very nice ocean view from the second or third floor decks. You also get an excellent ocean view from the main living and dining area since that's on the 3rd floor. The bedrooms' being on the 1st and 2nd floor makes for easier work carrying in luggage, and the ocean can be seen from a couple of bedrooms. No matter what you like most about the island, we believe that a stay in Pelican's Perch will make your family want to return again and again

Lovely home away with family
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The house was beautiful, clean and well appointed for a wonderful beach weekend with family. We ordered fabulous take out meals from Michaels restaurant and Cape Fear Boil Company so we could eat at the house in a relaxed and comfortable setting. It was wonderful and convenient. We couldn’t be happier with all the amenities the owners provided in their lovely home just across the street from the beach access!
Everything was just as advertised
This property was one of the best houses my family and I have ever stayed in. The owner, as well as the property manager were extremely helpful with any questions and concerns and made every attempt to ensure our stay was the best that it could be. We also experienced hurricane Dorian the week prior to our arrival and weren't sure we would be able to make the trip. They not only stayed in touch during the entire duration of the hurricane but stayed in contact well afterwards to ensure everything would be in order for our stay. If you're looking for a property to rent that is truly worry and hassle free, this is that property. The kitchen is fully stocked and furnished as is the rest of the house and that just made it more like a home away from home. Definitely can't go wrong with this property.
Labor Day weekend getaway
We enjoyed our stay at Pelican’s Perch. The house was spacious and had everything we needed for our stay at Kure beach. The view of the beach from the deck was so beautiful especially during sunrise and sunset. It was so nice to have access to bikes and beach supplies. The kids also enjoyed the games and puzzles. This was great to keep them entertained while we were inside. Overall, we had a fabulous stay and will return.
Great all-around couldn't be happier with both the property and the area
We loved this house. So close to all the amenities and fabulous ocean view.
My husband and I rented Pelican's Perch with our three adult sons and their partners plus two little dogs for a week in July. I can't really think of anything that anyone had to say that was negative other than our week was too short! There was plenty of room for all be together or have a quiet place to yourself. The beds and furniture were great - that is often a complaint with other rentals or hotels, but not the Perch!
If you like bagels we highly recommend Mr. Bagelmeister, just a short trip up the road with some unique options, but it can get busy on weekend mornings.
We cooked almost every night, because that's what we do, and having the Publix just up the road was great. There were several common spices available at the house and almost any type of kitchen utensil you will need, except for wine glasses - we could only find two. It's hardly worth mentioning but for wine drinkers, like we all are, that was probably the only brief moment of disappointment. There were plenty of beer pints from some cool breweries though.
Thanks to the owners for sharing such a wonderful vacation home and all its amenities with strangers and to Barbara for taking care of our check in/out and texting about local events throughout the week.
One note to future renters - you get one bath towel, one hand towel, and one wash cloth per person. There is a washer and dryer to refresh them through the week but if you are someone who's used to having a few extra towels around you'll prob want to pack them with your beach towels.
Thank you very much for the 5 stars and the thoughtful review! Thanks also for the feedback about the wine glasses - We didn't realize we were down to only two! I'll be taking care of that right now. ;-)
We're so glad you chose Pelican's Perch for your vacation and enjoyed your time in the area. We hope you'll remember us for future visits!
