We loved it!
As other reviews have said, it’s a little hard to find, but I called Tom the night before and he gave us better directions. It’s 4 cabins, 3 buildings, right on the water with a large yard and covered outdoor eating area with grills. Each cabin has its own bathroom and kitchen fully stocked, and the biggest had a living area with two pullout couches. We stayed with family and everyone loved it, we definitely hope to return next year.
It was great, but...
I booked this for myself and 9 other women for a weekend away. It was difficult to find the rental because the address number was not very clear. I ended up finding it on the meter box the day after checking in. I also was not under the impression that there were three separate cabins for this rental. It wasn't a huge deal, but just wasn't what any of us were expecting. This place was on the water and it was very relaxing. Although the cabins smelt very musty and were covered in spiders and spider webs, we vacuumed them up and it was clean other than that. We visited Sutton's Bay and Traverse City, along with Riverside Canoe trips on the Platte river. Overall had a wonderful time during our stay, would recommend this to a friend.
Don't do it!
There is a reason why there are no photos of the insides. Be careful, the information is misleading. 4 beds/4 baths is actually 4 separate tiny "cabins". When you go to the website, the photos show a few decent size houses and a couple cabins, there was only one photo inside with a fireplace which is not in the cabins. The main photo on this listing looks like one big place, but it is separated into 2 "cabins". Not what we wanted but we would have had to make the 4 cabins work. So upon arrival, the address given took us to a field up the road. Already irritated - we eventually found it, the doors were all unlocked, everything was open... Doesn't seem safe for a group of girls to get away. We went to the first cabin, a bit stinky but seemed okay (that is being generous), next 3 cabins just got worse. The two disconnected cabins were the worst, as if they were a cement blocked garage/sheds turned into living quarters. The smell was horrible, musty/moldy/mildew smell and bathrooms were gross. Part of the living area was drywalled and other was just paint over the cement blocks like a Michigan basement. We absolutely couldn't stay there. Trying to contact Tom? Don't bother calling him! He works midnights, shuts his phone off during the day and never returned any phone calls. I emailed him to answer questions, I did get a response with a link to the rentals - that was it. We found out where he lived because we couldn't get ahold of him and tried to confront him of this situation. He was very unpleasant for being in the hospitality business. Not understanding, not empathetic, he at one point mocked us, asking "how much we paid"? Then asking if we expected the Taj Mahal. Very unprofessional. We asked for our money back because we were not saying there, he of course said no. He did send a message through homeaway saying we would get our deposit back as long as no damage (and we should get it since we did not stay there)! I wish I would have taken pictures. The 4 cabins were nasty, dingy, stinky, outdated and looked cheaply put together to make a profit. Not only that, Tom was disrespectful. Only plus side is that it is on the water.
Perfect family trip
The online listing said this property was close to the lake, and we were delighted to get there and find that it was right on the lake! We spent most of our time outside and even ate all our meals outdoors on the covered porch or in the covered picnic shelter. The 4 cottages were perfect for our group -- a dog and 12 people from ages 3 to 94. Great swimming off the pier. So much to do in the area. The cottages are a little hard to find -- we used to coordinates, not the address, to locate.
what a great place to stay. cabins were great and they are right on the water as advertised. tom was very quick to respond to my emails. overall a very enjoyable experience and would definitely recommend to anybody looking for a place. 5 stars across the board. thanks
We’ve stayed on this property a few times and it’s always been great. Clean, as expected, right on the water, and pretty close to everything. Highly recommend!
1 mile from paved walking trail.
