About this property

Secluded retreat with lush landscaped gardens where nature takes center stage.

Nestled in a tranquil corner of the property beneath gracefully overhanging trees, the Arbor Cottage offers a secluded retreat with ample natural shade.

This charming cottage overlooks a stunning panorama of tropical foliage cascading toward the Caribbean Sea. Inside, beautifully crafted woodwork with a warm, honey-toned finish enhances the inviting atmosphere. The open design, complemented by large window banks, draws the surrounding gardens indoors. Six-foot roof overhangs, high ceilings, and ceiling fans help keep the interior naturally cool and breezy.

The accommodations include two bedrooms; one with a queen bed and the other with a double bed, adjoined by a shared bathroom. The fully equipped kitchen provides all essential amenities for a comfortable stay. The living room features a striking twelve-foot window seat offering serene views of the gardens and sea beyond, and the dining area comfortably seats four.

Adjacent to the kitchen is a shaded garden ideal for barbecuing or simply relaxing (“liming”). This outdoor oasis includes a flagstone terrace, additional seating, and is surrounded by lush, mature trees, creating a peaceful and private haven for guests.w

Great Cottage

This little cottage was perfect for the two of us. The kitchen was modern and had everything we needed, the bed room was small but had lots of hanging and draw space for both of our things, the bathroom was very clean and the shower was spacious. Dominique and Rick are very nice and were always available to answer any questions we had. The location is also very nice, a close drive to all the beaches we like yet, still very private to give you the escape. We would certainly stay there again.

Nice rustic location, quiet and relaxing. The openness cause some dusty floors which made for dirty feet

I enjoyed my stay but...

With a bit more attention to detail this could be a wonderful place to stay. Despite good rapport with Kimberly, the owner, it was not quite as relaxing as I had hoped. I booked for 11 nights but could only stay 8 due to being double booked. The house is in a lovely setting and the kitchen has everything you might need. Visitors should be aware that the outside doors do not lock, there is no window glass and no security safe so you should take your valuables with you every time you leave. The family's dogs are adorable when they are not barking and will lay at your feet, but will walk off with all your socks so put them in a drawer, especially the sweaty ones from a day walking the enchanting forest and waterfalls. Chacalaka birds and whistling frogs entertain you at night and the bugs stay out somehow. The lovely beach has one restaurant serving wholesome food til 4.30 and is 12 mins brisk walk downhill, 17 mins back. I chose Sunday and Tuesday as quiet planning days on my laptop but I was not told about the planned power out on Sunday or that the gardener would be strimming at high decibels on Tuesday for 8 hours from 6.30 in the morning, so both these days were wasted. The shower was only hot once, the controls kept falling to pieces and the water failed completely on my last night but was soon mended, though it meant I lost my planned night in Castara listening to drummers. The cheap and uncomfy pillows (one each) really show that the attention to detail the designer put in to the property has been lost in the letting and so at present the property is overpriced. Rent a car if you are going to stay here. The amazing Corbin Wildlife Park near Mason Hall is then in easy reach and is a must for all travellers and best explored on your own rather than a tour group. Here Tobago's David Attenborough, Roy Corbin, will guide you through his efforts to restock the wildlife of Tobago. You will get very up close and personal with caiman, amadillos, possum, Sally painters, agouti, boa constrictors and the one remaining ocelot in Trinidad and Tobago.

Beautiful location and accommodations with a few areas of improvement needed.

My partner and I stayed in Bayview for a week and loved the setting and views and amenities. The ambiance was fantastic and most of our needs were met. Some improvements that would have made our personal stay more comfortable are as follows: The kitchen should absolutely have a coffee maker. We made our coffee using a strainer over the blender each morning which was inconvenient at best. The unit should include a blow dryer. The owner graciously lent us one from the main house which we greatly appreciated. The bed is particularly uncomfortable and two pillows would be nice. The barking dogs are a real issue however. I know they present a feeling of security overall, but not when they are allowed to bark all night and at all hours. Is someone lurking or not? And who can sleep?

Quiet and beautiful

We loved our stay in Richard Hayton's cottage on his beautifully landscaped property. The cottage is open, airy and well equipped. Up on a hill we could listen to the waves in Englishman's Bay. The beach is gorgeous and practically deserted. Nearby Castara is a charming small town with some very good restaurants. Our hosts were friendly and helpful. I hope we have an opportunity to visit Tobago again. If we do we would definitely stay in this cottage again.

Traumhaus

Fazit: Toll! Gerne wieder! Marita, Januar 2017

A Living Legacy at Englishman’s Bay

This property is deeply rooted in a legacy of thoughtful design and environmental stewardship. My father, an American citizen, made Englishman’s Bay his home for over 20 years. As an architect, landscape designer, and passionate environmentalist, he dedicated himself to preserving and enhancing the natural beauty and ecological health of the Englishman’s Bay Estate.

Since his passing, I have lovingly taken over the care of the property and remain committed to honoring and continuing his vision. Every pathway, garden, and view reflects a deep respect for nature, intentional design, and a desire to share this extraordinary place with others in a meaningful and sustainable way.

Why they chose this property

If you love nature like I do, you'll be impressed with the natural beauty of the Englishman's Bay Estate with its views of mountains, bay, beach and sea. The cottages and landscaping were thoughtfully designed to be in harmony with nature. Follow stone pathways and trelices carved into the hillside that trail throughout the property, showcasing the beauty of the area.

What makes this property unique

A Peaceful Tropical Retreat

Set within a lush tropical forest, the cottage offers a serene and restful escape. Awaken to the melody of birdsong and unwind to the gentle rhythm of waves rolling onto the nearby beach. This natural symphony creates the perfect ambiance to disconnect from the world, lose yourself in nature, and find yourself at peace.
