WHY YOU SHOULD RENT THIS CABIN Experience cabin life at its finest when you come and stay at our amazing cabin! Perfect for a family retreat or get-away with friends!
Our log home was built in 2006 with 6 bedrooms and 6 baths. It is located approximately 2.5 hours from the Twin Cities on Big Sandy Lake, which is just north of McGregor, MN. The cabin is near Duluth and Brainerd. This property is ideal for all seasons and activities from water activities in the summer to enjoying the changing colors of the leaves in the fall.
This property is situated on the north shore of Big Sandy Lake with a gradual slope from the cabin down to the lake (allowing for an incredible view!) It has 285 feet of private lake shore & 2 sandy beach areas. The lake is 6000+ acres with lots of shoreline, many interesting islands & bays to explore.
The 6000 square foot - 3 level home features 6 bedrooms ( of which 2 are family suites), 6 bathrooms , 1.5 kitchens, a large dining room, great room, loft, screened 3 season porch, family room, game room with pool, ping pong & poker tables. The home has beds for 14, and has slept many more by utilizing the sofa sleeper, futon, 2 twin inflatable beds & the 2 twin high density foam mattresses. The bedroom arrangements include 1 King bedroom with a twin bed, 2 Queen suites with two side by side twin beds in the adjoining room, and an additional Queen bedroom with a twin bed.
The indoor living spaces are spectacular; with huge windows, vaulted cedar ceilings, log walls, and 2 wood-burning fireplaces. The craftsmanship & attention to detail are first class. The layout allows you to have your own space, and there are many wonderful common areas in which to gather.
The outdoor spaces are fantastic. The 1.5 acre lot has a beautiful double row of pines trees for added privacy on all sides except the lake side. There are many mighty oaks, paper birch, & maple trees that frame our lake home. The landscape has a good balance of being left natural as well as having green grass cleared areas.
The roomy deck and the screen porch are excellent choices to enjoy a great view of the lake. The back porch is a good location to enjoy the beauty of the woods. In the evening you might decide to utilize the fire pit down by the water. There is space at the dock for you to bring your own boat (sorry, we cannot allow Jet/Wave boats). There are public launches in the area. We have a fishing boat (no motor), 2 kayaks & a canoe that are provided at no charge for your enjoyment. The grounds are well cared for and provide the perfect opportunity for yard games and for children to roam and play.
There is a nearby Minnesota National Golf Course and Savanna Portage State Park. The golf course is an 18 hole championship course that has five tee boxes for any skill level.
There are restaurants & bars that you can boat or drive to near and on the lake.

Amazing views of the lake with perfect outdoor space and a downstairs game room for family and friends. The cabin is exactly as advertised with a ton of space. The hosts made check in and out very easy.
Beautiful property!! There are a couple in the group that love to cook and they were very pleased with the kitchen. Plenty of games to play as well as plenty of outdoor seating. Would definitely rent this property again.
Perfect vacation.... and we caught some nice fish.
The home was everything that was advertise. Very spacious, well maintain and clean ready for us to enjoy our family vacation. The log cabin was designed with activities in mind. Bedrooms were located to maximize privacy for families and suitable for small children. Very safe.
The game areas, pool table, cards table, ping pong and tv could keep a crowd happily busy. This will be the vacation our kids will always remember.
The cabin: if you wanted to build a log cabin, this is the cabin you would want to visit for ideas. The lighting, plumbing and heating worked well, was laid out to facilitate the different activities and was labeled to make turning on and off easy. The appliances and kitchen tools were all in good condition.
Overall, great vacation location for multiple families. Excellent condition, clean and well maintained inside and out.
The owner was very good to work with. Definitely a 5+ star in all categories.
Absolutely beautiful property. Picture perfect view out the main living room huge windows. Countless hours spent watching the breath taking view. Fully stocked kitchen. Many games played using the amenities downstairs. Immaculate specious cabin. Each bedroom having its own bathroom was a luxury. More then enough seating in all areas of the house and outdoors. Close to the grocery/liquor store and coffee shop. Great small town experience with fantastic service and smiles. We had a peaceful and great stay. Wonderful communication with owners. Our family truly enjoyed our stay. A memorable annual family vacation that was genuinely more memorable by such a fantastic cabin.
Our Big Sandy Lake Summer 2021 Family Vacation on Indian Shores
This beautiful log home and lakefront property with two beaches was spectacular in size and design and was fully utilized and enjoyed by the entire family during our week-long stay.
A few of the highlights were the overwhelming experience of the August blue moon over the water and sitting around the campfire on the beach. In addition, an afternoon pontoon rental was nicely accommodated by the easy dock access, and the unsurpassed, open view of the lake provided by the completely glassed front of the cabin was truly a joy and is an image we can treasure having experienced. It enabled us to relax and de-charge from our usual busy daily lives (and overrode the long drive down the dusty, curved and hilly, gravel road to reach the property).
Our family enjoys sharing the meal preparation and appreciated that the kitchen was fully stocked with all the tools we needed to share our culinary skills with each other. In addition, the linens were clean and abundant, and the on-site laundry facilities were top notch. The six bathrooms were a welcome and much appreciated convenience. The basement bedrooms were very comfortable and we were able to adjust the temperature for our comfort. The use of the carnival-size popcorn maker was great fun, and the basement game room where it is located is second to none. We played cards and pool there.
However, the stairs and upper level 'balcony' (along with the otherwise convenient beach access) presented a constant challenge to the safety of the infant and preschoolers, who required constant supervision and vigilance. Even with the use of baby gates, the rails overlooking the floor below and along the stairway to the upper bedrooms were spaced in a way that would allow children to accidentally slide through and fall to the floor and stairs below, making this a challenge for our family. (I reluctantly admit that perhaps this property would be better suited for adult-only groups.)
This log cabin is absolutely beautiful! It has 6 bedrooms and six baths and a beautiful view of the lake. It has plenty of space and was comfortable for our family party of 14. It also comes with two kayaks, a canoe and a fishing rowboat and a dock, which we took advantage of them all. We were taken by surprise when we realized that for two of the bedrooms you had to go through the main bedroom to get to the smaller bedroom. To be fair, when we went back and read the property description it did explain that a Bedroom Suite is situated that way. When we looked at other properties, this is what a Bedroom Suite is described as, you have to go through a main bedroom to get to the smaller bedroom. We worked it out, but it was a surprise. Now we know the VRBO nomenclature.
We really liked that there was a large kitchen and a pantry and an extra refrigerator. Also, a large, commercial size Washer and Dryer.
One downstairs bedroom has the hardware for the cistern and there was a sewage smell in that bedroom.
The owners were always very prompt in getting back to us when we had any questions, both before the rental dates and during.
Huge, clean and comfortable cabin. We have stayed here more than five times for a family reunion. It has so many bedrooms and bathrooms that everyone has their own space. The newly remodeled kitchen is wonderful as is the sandy beach for the kids. Will definitely stay again.
Excellent property for our family stay! Spacious, clean and stocked with everything we needed. The only thing that was a slight negative was that there were big rocks you had to step on to get into the water that hurt the little one's feet. We would definitely recommend this property to friends and family.

Thank you for choosing to stay at our lake home. We appreciate you taking the time to write a review. You mentioned the big rocks you had to step on to get into the water, I would like to clarify that. There is a beach with sand that gently slopes into the lake - that is the usual way to access the water. The dock and boat lifts are there too. The area where big rocks are at the shore (rip rap) are there to hold the shore line in place. There is sand there but that area is not meant for lake access.

Wonderful Lake Retreat
Our family spent a week at this McGregor lake home in mid June. The home is so spacious you would need to see it to believe it. The families with small children appreciated the upstairs suites which had plenty of sleeping space and private bathrooms. The weather was near perfect so we had bonfires every night. The kids had a great time on the sand beaches. Because this home is on a dead end road, there is very little traffic and much privacy.
Lots of wildlife can be seen from the deck or living room window. Chipmunks eating seeds from the maple spinners, grey and black squirrels, baby ducks swimming in line behind mom, loons diving for lunch, and turtles laying eggs in many places. The big kids caught enough fish for a fish fry.
We had a very relaxing week at this home and Diane was very good to work with. We recommend it.

Big Sandy Jewel
My family rented this cabin for the weekend to attend a wedding in the McGregor area. Due to the weather we were unable to enjoy the beautiful outdoors so we took advantage of the cozy cabin. The game room provided plenty of entertainment for the children in our group. We couldn't have asked for better accommodations. The bedrooms were very comfortable and there are bathrooms everywhere, with plenty of hot water.
I would recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a cabin in northern MN.

Expansive, beautiful home
We were a little early for swimming season, but the beach was wonderful. We had a large family reunion, and it proved perfect for such an occasion because two of the bedrooms have adjoining bedrooms with a shared bath. It would not be good for large groups who didn't want to walk through a master bedroom to get to a secondary bedroom for children and to get to the bathroom. It is a terrific place for extended families such as ours. Diane was wonderful to work with and the home was immaculate upon our arrival. Our damage deposit was promptly returned, and we would certainly rent it again.

AMAZING Cabin & Weekend Retreat!
Several friends and I recently booked this cabin for a weekend getaway and it certainly was a little piece of heaven! It is absolutely beautiful, extremely spacious and comes fully stocked with everything you’ll need as indicated under the Amenities section.
The cabin is literally lakeside and the fish does bite for those of you who are interested in fishing!
Diane, the owner, was also excellent to work with.
You won’t regret booking it so don’t think twice if you are!

we spent an awesome week at this magnificent home. The owners have planned perfectly for big groups. We were able to sprawl in comfort. Plenty of beds, hot water all the time, easy to care for. Great boat dock and beach, Diane is very attentive to details and questions. Everything was in working order and our vacation could not have been better.
Thanks

Great Time Was Had By All
Our first reaction was "WOW- this place is amazing." Our family thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay. The description is extremely accurate - everything is provided except for dishtowels. The bedroom with en suite bathrooms were perfect. There was always something going on - we'd either be on the lake, around the camp fire, having a ping-pong or pool tournament, playing one of the many games.. but mostly we enjoyed the tranquility. We never ate out...it was too much fun grilling and you can trust the description that everything is provided - tons of bowls, crock pots, utensils charcoal and gas grills - even marshmallow roasting sticks. We had everything we needed and more! Not only was the home spotless but the grounds were well manicured and there was absolutely no litter anywhere. It was easy to tell that the owners take great pride in this home - it shows. Diane was extremely easy to work with and it was very evident that her goal was that you had a great time. Our only complaint was that the week flew by too fast. Our last reaction when leaving was "WOW this place really is amazing" Thank you for sharing your home with us and helping to make some wonderful memories.

Great Friends Getaway Weekend
A group of friends from Minneapolis wanting to get out for a weekend and what a better way than with this cabin. Super spacious with amazing amenities and set up on a hill with an amazing view of likely the best spot on the lake. It is hard to describe how big this place was but it still felt so cozy.
There was a fire set to welcome us upon arrival and everything was perfectly set up. Fun evening with friends and the biggest selection of board games, music and DVD's to choose from let alone the game room in the basement with a popcorn machine!
We awoke to massive views of the lake through 2 stories of windows and spent the gorgeous day ice fishing, snow shoeing and hiking around the lake. We made another cozy another fire that evening, this time in the downstairs fireplace and sat around a massive dining table to recap the day.
This place is stocked with everything you need to enjoy whatever you are looking for and the owners were great to deal with. I have rented a lot of places on VRBO all over the country and this was easily one of the best.

Relaxing Environment!!
This cabin was one of the nicest cabins I have ever been to. It is a great week/weekend get-away for a group!! It was relaxing, had great views, things to do, and for the most part, private. Of all the people that went to the cabin with myself, there was nothing negative said about the place! I highly recommend it to anyone else that is travelling with a group!!

Extended family get-away
This is not a log cabin. It is a beautiful log home. Don't bring a dish, pan, or spoon. It is all there. Don't bother packing movies either. When you've tired from playing in the game room, you will find stacks of these to occupy your time. Don't pack any games. The game room has a cabinet full!
Our group ranged in age from 14 - 77 and consisted of and 8 adults & 4 teenagers. Our stay was mid-October, so the beautiful lake view and a little shore fishing was all the lake enjoyment possible. But what a view! Plus, my 14-year old daughter even caught a small northern! One morning, I got up early to take sunrise pictures from the back windows, and 2 deer were kind enough to pause and pose on their way by. Perfect!
The 3-season porch was great, and turned into the teen lounge where they hung out and played games discovered in the game room. They had lots of fun using the intercom to call absent player to the lounge too.
The upstairs main kitchen had us perplexed though. Had we planned different meals, it wouldn't have been an issue. (I have to say that the owner's pics are accurate.) The kitchen cabinets and appliances are much older than the house, and there is very little counter space. The microwave on top of the refrigerator was awkward to use & Grandma was afraid to use it up there. We wound up moving a (8'?) long folding table we found in the dining room into the large open space. It worked awesome as our prep/buffet table. Once we got used to the unplumbed dishwasher, it wasn't a problem either and worked great! (Just had to wheel it over to the sink and connect.) Beat doing dishes by hand!
I have to say, we had fun speculating why the upstairs kitchen was finished SO differently from the rest of the house. I asked the owner when we returned, and she said it is temporary until they finish it. By the way, there is another kitchen (finished) in the basement/game room too, with a new microwave on the counter. The stoves (one up and one down) were small and old. They worked fine, but I suggest planning more slow-cooker and grilled meals if possible, until the upstairs kitchen is redone.
While the upstairs kitchen is the only reason for my 4-star rating, please keep in mind that it is only a very small part of an otherwise large, beautiful, comfortable home. Everything was very clean and well maintained. The full-size front loading washer & dryer were super! 6 full bathrooms! Owner was very helpful and great to work with. We would love to stay again!

Relaxing Getaway
During the several days we stayed at this spacious log home, we had anywhere between 6-10 of us staying at one time. The pictures do not do justice to the beauty of this home. The property was exceptionally clean and well-maintained, and I even had an opportunity to speak with the owners upon arrival. Fishing, kayaking, playing in the sand, canoeing, and smores by the fire were just a few of the outdoor activities we tried. Inside, there was room for everyone to have their own space, whether it was to read, play pool, enjoy games, etc. The design of this home truly allows for more than one family to stay together, and yet have their own space. I would definitely recommend this property to friends and/or relatives. Our 7 year old son informed us that he absolutely wants to return next summer. Thank you for sharing your special property with us.
