About this property

Executive Renovated Cain Lake Home

Newly-renovated beautiful, modern, cozy, clean house with private beach/dock at Cain Lake, WA, located 15 min. south of Bellingham, 15 min. north of Mount. Vernon/Burlington and 55 min. from Mount Baker ski resort.
The house is 5 min. east of I-5 at Alger, WA, nested in a secluded area, yet only 1.5 hours from Seattle and Vancouver, BC. The closest airport is Bellingham International Airport, about 25 min. to the north. The Amtrak train station at Fairhaven in Bellingham offers relaxing trips to Vancouver or Seattle.

The two-level, 140 m² (1500 ft²) house offers an open-concept kitchen to the living and dining room with new cabinets, quartz countertop, microwave, stainless-steel Bosch dishwasher, Samsung electric stove, and a two-drawer with French-door, chilled water and ice-dispensing stainless-steel fridge. The middle drawer can be set colder than the fridge, perfect for beer, white wine or your favourite coconut water.
The kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, pots and pans, utensils, etc., and of course there is a large coffee machine. For steak, fish or vegetables, an outdoor Weber propane BBQ is available for your convenience.
Clean drinking water supplied from a well to the kitchen and bathrooms. Note: it is NOT piped-in from the lake as most are at the lake. It was tested negative for the presence of undesired pollutants. You will notice how delicious this water tastes without chlorine. If you are considering bottled water, our well water does not pick up mold during transportation and it also tastes much better. Save yourselves money and drink our free super clean water.

The Living and Dining rooms are beautifully furnished with large, modern leather furniture, and fireplace for winter use.
The TV room allows for a smaller family interaction on a comfortable, sink-in fabric couch. For your enjoyment, there is a 55" LCD TV with satellite reception, Chromecast and surround sound system, or just watch streaming video through our free fast wireless internet. Satellite pay-per-view is available, please contact us and we will pass on the charges. Please do not sleep on the comfortable couch as tempting as it may seem. Please use the beach towel to prevent food spilling if kids are eating on the couch.

One bedroom is on the main floor with a twin-over-double bunkbed and a twin trundle, accommodating four persons. The upper floor has a master bedroom with a king-size bed and second bedroom with a queen-size bed, accommodate a total of four persons.
There are two bathrooms. The main floor bathroom has a door-less and step-less shower with a glass partition. The upper bathroom has a large, modern tub, allowing sitting shower or just soaking for two after a day of swimming or skiing in the winter.
To be complete we have a hair dryer and, away from the bathrooms, also a mirror for makeup or just styling your hair.
A new front-loading HE-washer/dryer inside a laundry closet with a laundry tub if needed. Yes, we also have an iron and ironing board. Check the info at the bottom of the ironing board if it does not stay up!

The large covered sundeck offers a beautiful view of the lake and surrounding mountains.
Swim, row, kayak, paddle board, jump from the dock, or walk in from the shallow gravel beach that kids and the swimming-challenged would just love. We have two kayaks and two paddle boards (includes 11 ft/3.3 m Body Glove), and a non-tipping rowboat (check the photograph).

Cain Lake offers trout fishing. It is stocked every year with about 10,000 rainbow trout. For trout fishing April and May are excellent, June and October are good. Please obtain a fishing permit from Washington Fish & Wildlife before fishing.
Water temperature reaches a high of 26°C (79°F) with layers of cooler water, perfect for water-treading and swimming. Compare that with 20°C (68°F) in September in Lake Whatcom. Enjoy worry-free swimming across the water or floating on the provided noodles as no noisy and smelly gas powered boats are allowed at Cain Lake - only electric trolling motors.

The tranquil forested neighbourhood also lends itself to hiking and biking. If you like bird-watching, looking up high on the tall tree tops you could see eagles tending their nest, occasionally diving down to scoop a trout from the lake.
Bring a good book and read underneath the provided large umbrella on the dock. Or just play the provided badminton game on the huge shaded lot underneath giant cedar trees. Whatever you do at the lake, be responsible and take all the necessary precaution to make your stay lasting and enjoyable as we cannot be responsible for your carelessness.

Please note, no land line phone is available. Subject to changes, AT&T cell reception is good at the house, but not T-mobile's. We were told Verizon's is good as well, but not sure of others. WiFi is available for internet phone, text messages, e-mail, etc. with signal strength up to the dock.
If you have a question or special need, or have an idea that is just different before booking, contact us. We will most likely be able to accommodate you. We will provide an information manual to assist you with our kitchen and laundry equipment and other useful stuff. If you are still unsure how to operate anything at the house, send us a text.

You are welcome to have a bonfire, provided there is no outdoor fire ban in the dry season. Please check with the authorities. Logs will be available at cost. We purchased the logs and would need to pass on the charges to you. Please contact us. Only the larger logs are for the outdoor pit.

Places of interest nearby include casinos, golf courses, Skagit Speedway, Bellis Fair Mall, Seattle Premium Outlets & Burlington Outlet Shoppes, tulips in La Conner, etc. For last minute forgotten items there is a corner store one minute away by car.

Our lot is large enough to accommodate 3 or 4 cars. Bring your own bicycle and check nature's path. You will see many cyclists on the main road on Sundays. Just come here, enjoy and have fun.

Highlight of our summer!
This was our third visit. It never fails to leave us wanting to come back. We have already booked for next year. The house is wonderful and has everything you need and more. We practically live on the dock and in the water, which is great for swimming. Don and Maribel are the best hosts and bend over backwards to make sure you enjoy your stay. Highly recommend!

great property on great swimming lake
We were a group of 6 seniors and spent 4 summer nights at this property. We do a trip like this every year, swimming/boating during the day and playing board games at night after dinner. Cain Lake is a great swimming lake. The kitchen is really well set up for cooking, with every kind of pot and pan I would ever use. Each couple cooked a dinner and we were all impressed with the kitchen. There are LOTS of plates, bowls, silverware, etc, really quite complete. The dining table is Italian and great for games. It has a cool built-in extension to make it larger, big enough to seat 8 people. Don and Maribel were easy to reach and quick to reply. Check-in was automated and very smooth. Neighbors on both sides were very friendly. Overall, a great experience.

tranquility at the lake
If your looking for a quiet getaway this is the place. Our family had a such wonderful time relaxing by the Lake. The house is clean and well stocked. Don and Maribel are great hosts and the house set up very nicely for guests. The house has beautiful lake and forrest views. We enjoyed the wildlife including Eagles plucking fish out of the lake right in front of us. It’s a smaller lake with no motorized boats perfect for paddle boarding or kayaking. There is a little bit road noise at times but hardly noticeable once you settle in. It was nice to stay outside of Bellingham it’s a short drive to town and restaurants, lots of beautiful hikes, plenty to do and explore. We will definitely be back.

A warm lake
The place is as described on the web. Nice waterfront home with view to the lake. We enjoyed the kayaking and paddle boards. Even my 7 yrs old can managed paddle boards there. Kitchen is well equipped. We had a wonderful vacation there.

About the host

We love the outdoors, having lived in big cities most of our lives. Cain Lake is the closest thing to nature one could get within driving distance from the large cities.

Why they chose this property

This property offers ample green space, large trees, birds and a magnificent lake with rainbow trout fish, and safe warm swimming water in the summer. The neighbours are all friendly.

What makes this property unique

Since we love doing renovation and this house is structurally sound, it offers creative thinking in how to enhance it, exploring the beautiful mountain views, especially since it is just a few steps away from to the lake.
From the outside the house therefore looks, well, average, but from the inside it is super modern.
It is an ongoing renovation project. Update: newly planted row of Japanese Maple trees added.
