About this property

The Hideaway: 4 Bedroom Russian River FRONT Cabin in Guerneville w/ PRIVATE DOCK

Year Round Fun! This is an amazing family cabin tucked in among the redwoods. The location is ideal. Literally just steps away from the Russian River with a private dock, you can't get much closer to the river without falling in.

The house itself is a gem. Having been redone multiple times, it is a beautiful blend of classic traditional with the right amount of new touches. Stunning redwood batten board throughout the house sets the perfect backdrop for the house.

The house has been raised off the street and has a great deck off the front which is perfect for summertime barbeques and enough room to accommodate teak cocktail chairs with a modular square cocktail table, a round picnic table with chairs and piazza lights. Perfect for winding down in the evenings following a great day on the river.

As you enter the house, there is a great room with a phenomenal fireplace. The nearly 20-foot ceilings scream for you to sit by the fire and enjoy a glass (bottle?) of your favorite found chardonnay or pinot.

And, the back enclosed porch is a wonderful gathering place for dining and lounging with views of the surrounding vistas.

The house really is a great place to getaway to. The access to the river is amazing. The dock is a great way to enjoy the water. Whether you want to rent paddle boats or canoes from Johnson's Beach or just lounge on an inner-tube or raft, there is something special about just going for a swim in the river.

For the beach-goers, Johnson's beach is less than a mile and is a great walk.

For the SPORTSMAN, the fishing is great. Do that from the dock, wade upstream and use the adjacent beach, or take a short drive out to Jenner or Bodega to charter a trip. Some friends of ours often plan abalone dives and use the river as a homebase.

If you are into GOLF, the Northwoods golf course is only 3.8 miles from the house. Designed by Dr. Alister MacKenzie in 1928, the course is a classic MacKenzie design with 9 holes winding through giant redwood trees. (This is the same architect who designed Cypress Point, Augusta National, Meadow Club, Pasatiempo and many other great courses).

For the WINE lover, the list of amazing Russian River wineries is tremendous. Korbel does a terriffic tour and has a really great deli and picnic area. Gary Farrell is one of the most well respected wine makers around, producing some super premium wines. Porter Creek is a little more laid back ... and a lot of fun.

For the FOODIES, there is a wide variety. Everything from tasty comfort food and special breakfast places (See: The River Inn, Piknik Town Market) to pizza to brewery / pub food (Stumptown Brewery) to high end / romantic / special dinners at Applewoods and Boon. And, delicious eats and mezcal at El Barrio.

For the KIDS, there are a ton of possible adventures. One of our favorites continues to be Pee Wee Golf & Arcade which is just across the river from town (about a mile from the house) and Rio Nido Pee Wee Golf. Armstrong Woods is very nearby and a great spot to stand among giant redwood trees. There are hiking trails here but also a flat walkable area.

The 2nd time staying at this house; it has a private dock!

The location is great. The house is a bit worn, but the beds are great and there is a private dock on a wide portion of the river. We have stayed here 2X and intend to stay again next summer.

Family time

Good house (4 bedrooms) for family gathering, but difficult to share one shower with that many people. Parking was fine for two cars and right in front of house. It was convenient to activities and restaurants.

Big house in a great location on the river

We really enjoyed our stay in Guerneville. The house is close to town, and it's on a perfect spot on the river. The place is much bigger than it looks in the pictures, with plenty of space for a big family. We hope it's available for our next Russian River vacation!

Perfect River Getaway

Excellent location! Very clean, lovely property. The hosts were very accommodating. Provided pretty much everything you would need to cook your own meals here. Perfect access to the river with a private dock at the end of a cul de sac. Highly recommend and would stay here again.

Rustic Russian River

This home accommodated my family for a celebration of life for my sister on Johnson's beach and definitely had everything we needed for the weekend. It was very well equipped, had a dock on the river, plenty of seating, a bright a sunny sunroom and cozy seating around the incredible fireplace. With four bedrooms, it really made the perfect place for us to enjoy each other!

Spacious home with everything you need

Family came to visit from out of town and we needed some extra space for all of us to be comfortable. This property was perfect for us. The kitchen was stocked with every item imaginable. During the day we used the private dock for swimming, in the evening we sat out on the front deck and played games at the table with the beautiful redwood setting and the Dining room table was big enough to seat the 6 of us comfortably. The host was generous with the check-in/check-out time flexibility and allowed us to make the most of our time there. I'm already looking at re-booking the property in the near future.

We enjoyed our weekend away from SF and Erin’s place was just what we needed. Quiet and cozy and a massive fireplace which was just perfect for us to drink wine by the fire while our daughter olayed video games on the arcade machine there. Highly recommend.

Guerneville getaway

We loved the cabin. It was a perfect combination of rustic, cozy, and spacious for 2 adults and 4 teens. We enjoyed the modern shower with views of redwoods, the fully equipped kitchen, the great room with fireplace, and the dining room overlooking a field and more trees. We loved having a sunset cocktail on the private deck by the river. The whole weekend was so relaxing, even with 4 teens along.

Home away from home

Erin’s place made for an incredible weekend with family. The house was very cozy, with amazing views from the dining table, and wonderful flourishes of history throughout. And to top it all off, the backyard and deck made us question how we got so lucky. We truly appreciated how accommodating Erin was, thanks so much, Erin! We cant wait to come back.

Spacious, comfortable

The house is older, but very comfortable. I stayed with three of my sisters for only a couple of days. The only big disappointment for me is that the river is low this year and you can barely see or hear it from the house. I had been looking forward to falling asleep to a rushing Russian river. But we hung out in the big back room that has a pretty view of the trees in back. The widows go wall to wall in that room and it was a heavenly place to sit and look out. The pictures of the place are representative. Another review mentioned broken or rotting decking. It seems to have all been fixed. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking stuff. Beds comfortable. Overall we had a great time. Beautiful area for hiking.

Quirky, but as largely promised.

Note: The house has two webcams in the common areas (back playroom/eating area and front living room) that were not disclosed in the rental agreement or in any documentation that we saw, either online or on paper. While the cameras were only in the common areas, they should have been disclosed prior to our renting so that we could have known and booked elsewhere. The property overall was as portrayed online, but it was a bit . . . quirky to say the least. The common areas had plenty of space, but it was definitely a property that hadn’t been updated in quite a while. The stated private dock was on property connected to the house, but it was down the hill and around the corner. (So you couldn’t really leave little kids in the house and wander down to dock.) I don’t know what the insert/spider situation is, but the entire outside looked like it could really have used a decent pressure wash, as there were spider webs everywhere and we had to push through a few to get around outside. (It is worth noting though that we didn’t have any issues inside the property.) And I wouldn’t really have wanted to spend time on the front porch or the back walkway (not really a porch) without a least spending a little bit of time going through with a broom. It was quite close to Johnson’s Beach and the town’s restaurants, so we spent most of our time out of the house itself. The bedrooms were compact, as expected from such a rental. The half-bathroom off the largest bedroom had three doors giving access, but the door into the bedroom itself was basically unusable, so the privacy there wasn’t the best. The cleanliness was largely ok, but there was trash under the beds that were clearly from previous visitors, so the cleaning could use some work. Overall, the location was good and gave us the access to the city and Johnson Beach that we’d wanted, but I’m not sure if I would have booked here had I realized that the dock access and the river were more like a block away rather than visible right from the house.

We had a great time visiting Guerneville and enjoying all its offerings. The home is as advertised. Rustic but very clean. The location can’t be beat. The private dock with easy access from the house really makes the place special. We highly recommend and will be sure to visit again.

About the host

Hosted by Erin Strain Elliott

Host profile image
This is a family owned property that is working on its 3rd and 4th generations. Our grandparents (Frank and Retta) originally purchased the 'cabin' as a getaway place from their home in the City (San Francisco). They loved it so much that they moved up here full time.

For years, 'the River' has been a very traditional vacation spot for families and adults from San Francisco. In 1964, my parents met at the River when my mom was there for a 'girls weekend' and my dad was up with the guys. I guess it was fated for us to be here. We should all be so blessed.

Growing up, this became our getaway. Only an hour north of San Francisco, we spent many of our best days swimming in the river, building tree forts, playing football on the lawn. Thanksgiving at the river is amazing.

As we have gotten older, it is great to get away to enjoy the tremendous wineries and great cuisine that has made its way into the region. This is a playground for all.

Why they chose this property

This property sits at the end of quiet street on the river side. With direct access to the river and a private dock that we put in, we have tremendous access to the river -- you can throw a football from the house to the dock.

Growing up, we had a view of the river and the beach. As the river has moved over time, the view has changed as is now one that provides us beautiful panaromas of the willow trees on the beach with a stunning backdrop of redwood trees on the mountains surrounding the Russian River Valley.

And, the house itself is set among a tremendous strand of giant redwoods that are stunning.

What makes this property unique

With a private dock on the river, there is no better way to spend some lazy days just enjoying the spectacular weather.
