About this property

The Cliffs

Experience the magic of this breathtaking oceanfront gated estate. Watch dolphins, whales, and cruise ships sail by. Feel the cooling Tradewinds where they first reach the Hawaiian Islands on your skin.

Located in the heart of the Hamakua Coast, this is more than a place to stay, it's a lifetime experience not to be missed!

Consisting of two spacious bedroom suites, each have astonishing ocean views by day and wide open starlit skies to lull you to sleep by night.....

The space

We love giving guests a higher level of service. Ask us anything at any time. Have a question about the area? Want to learn more about the home? We are here for you. Just send us an inquiry and you will get a response right away.

Welcome to The Cliffs at Hakalau.

As you enter the estate though our private gate, an impressive mature tropical garden will surround you like a soft blanket. It's hard to believe this tranquil jungle like land also fronts a spectacular oceanfront cliff house and Ohana where you can literally feel the thunder of the ocean beneath your feet. Listening to tropical bird songs by day, and coqui "jungle" sounds at night under star lit skies will melt away your cares.

Upon entering the front door, you will see a vaulted great room and huge east facing windows looking out over the breathtaking ocean. The sunrises here are among some of the best you have ever seen.

The "Hamakua" bedroom features a King bed and the "Hilo" Bedroom a Cal-King bed, each boasting private baths. The bathroom of the Hamakua room has been completely renovated with a new double walk in shower, an extra large, luxurious Jacuzzi tub with full ocean view, new cabinets, sinks and counter. If you prefer, you can step outside the "Hamakua" Bath and shower outside. The shower outside is the best in the house. It's a must do while staying at The Cliffs. Both bedrooms have astonishing ocean views and each has their own lanai for privacy and comfort. For overflow guests, there is a futon sofa bed in the living room.

With sleeping accommodations for up to 6 guests, this estate provides excellent value.

Need even more room? This property also features a 2 bedroom Ohana we call "The Treehouse." Perched high up and close to the green belt and trees, this space can accommodate up to 4 more guests. Message us for availability and information.

Like to cook? Our kitchen is outfitted for you to have everything you need when making your favorite dish or maybe you will try your hand at preparing "local kine" foods after visiting one of the many farmers markets near by.

Part of our design philosophy is to bring families and groups together to relax, enjoy and "talk story". The living room has lots of comfortable seating areas including a sectional sofa, coffee table, several arm chairs with side tables, a telescope, and a futon. You won't find a big screen living room TV, nor playstation, or anything else to distract you from experiencing Hawaii and this magical private oasis...

The home also features its own website. You can web search "The Cliffs at Hakalau" and there you will find loads of information about the Cliffs at Hakalau, videos, and information about the what to do and see island wide. You can also post and "Talk Story", share your experience......

We have a 5 star rating and aim to earn your 5 star review. We have many repeat guests that reserve year after year and want the Cliffs at Hakalau to be your favorite destination when you are visiting Hawaii. We are available to you 24/7 and are happy to answer any questions you may have. Please feel fee to reach out to us with any questions! Mahalo!!

About the area:

Hilo is known for its warm aloha spirit, relaxed lifestyle, unique shops, art galleries and restaurants with local regional cuisine. Local attractions include Lyman Museum, East Hawaii Cultural Center, historic Palace Theatre, Pacific Tsunami Museum, Imiloa Astronomy Center, UH Hilo Performing Arts Center and Hawaii Tropical Botanical Gardens. Hilo Farmers Market is a favorite for fresh, local produce. Merrie Monarch Festival, Hilo's premier hula competition and cultural event, is held annually. Hilo's black sand beaches are some of the best for snorkeling, diving, surfing, paddle boarding, kayaking, swimming with turtles and tropical fish, or watching the whales offshore. Take a helicopter volcano tour or scenic drive to Kilauea Volcano (when flows are active) to view a lava caldera, or tour the summit and view the night skies of Mauna Kea.

We are near Highway 19, only 15 minutes to the town of Hilo, 20 minutes to the Hilo Airport and an approximate 2 hour drive to Kona. This is a great central location to tour and see the inspiring vistas the Island of Hawaii has to offer.
