Beautiful furnished penthouse apt, with open floor plan and tons of light, in a 1913 building in the heart of historic San Telmo. Three balconies overlooking lovely Lezama Park.
Bohemian elegance at its best. One of the most beautiful historic buildings in San Telmo, located on wide tree-lined Avenida Caseros.
The neighborhood of San Telmo-- the heart of BA's historic district--has a decidedly bohemian look and feel and can be compared to Greenwich Village in Manhattan, Back Bay in Boston, or Montmartre in Paris. It is home to many professionals, artists, musicians, and expats who are drawn to its gritty but trendy urban old world charm. Cobble stone streets, colonial architecture, a multitude of great restaurants, cafes, bars, tango clubs, museums, antique stores, etc.
San Telmo is conveniently located downtown, and is adjacent to beautiful Puerto Madero on the river, to Barracas (the design district), and to the charming neighborhood of La Boca. Close to everything!
On Sundays, Defensa street (1/2 block from the entrance to our building) is closed to traffic and becomes a pedestrian walk way with musicians, tango dancers, buskers, arts and crafts stands, etc. And the flea/antique market-- held every weekend in San Telmo's Plaza Dorrego--is only @5 blocks away.
This block of Caseros Avenue is the heart of San Telmo's trendy new southern restaurant district. There are @eleven restaurants-bars-cafes, most which have outdoor sidewalk seating, in this block alone.
One of them is a natural foods restaurant and bakery, offering vegetarian and gluten free options. There is also a craft beer style pub offering a wide variety of beers on tap. And there are many additional great eateries on our block. One of the best tango music venues in the City is located a half block away. All are just steps away from the front door to the building, but the apt is on the top floor and mostly sheltered from the noise. You do hear some local buses but its not a roar!
The apt has been updated/modernized but retains its original hardwood floors, 12 ft ceilings, mosaic tile, the old style "bovedilla" undulating brick ceiling in the kitchen, etc. And it is furnished with many Argentine retro/midcentury modern pieces from the 50s, 60s and 70s. If you appreciate vintage architecture, you'll LOVE it!
-1500 square feet (150m2) -three balconies -safe building of quiet, friendy professionals -top floor unit -very private and quiet for downtown -only two apts per floor ("semi-piso") -lovely breeze from the river -huge roof communal top terrace w/park view -5 blocks walk to Puerto Madero and the floating casinos -10 blocks to the hike and bike trails along the river at the Ecological Reserve
Preference given to longer term renters. Renting a private room at a lower rate is another option.

About the host
Hosted by Wendy
I'm an American-Argentine dual citizen (US born) living in several countries. And I love the historic district!
Why they chose this property
It rocks! And the location downtown is unbeatable. This is one of the prettiest blocks in all of San Telmo. And our historic building (1913) was designed by renown Swiss architect Christian Schindler who was responsible for many noteworthy buildings in Buenos Aires, including several along the famous Avenida de Mayo street near the Presidential Palace.
