The property is thoughtfully designed and curated. We felt like we had everything we needed here. This is a cozy place for an easygoing retreat for two.
Had a wonderful stay at the Nordic Nest! Cozy, clean, charming and very well-appointed. Hosts were proactive, friendly and helpful throughout. Great rural location but still close to Menomonie. Loved everything and would absolutely stay again!

Joan should teach classes about how to run a VRBO. This place was just perfect for the weekend as we visited our son at college. She has thought of everything at the Nordic Nest.

We had an absolutely perfect stay and can honestly say this place deserves a full 10/10. From the moment we arrived, everything exceeded our expectations. The space was spotless, beautifully decorated, and felt both cozy and thoughtfully designed. You can really tell how much care the host puts into maintaining the property. Communication with the host was seamless, friendly, and prompt, which made the entire experience stress-free. My boyfriend and I both agreed this was one of the best Vrbo properties we’ve ever stayed in. We would absolutely book again without hesitation and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable, relaxing, and memorable stay.

This is a great place if you are traveling solo and need some quiet time. It feels very private but is not isolated, so it still feels very safe. I loved all of the special touches. Very well designed and maintained.

The property is modern and comfortable, clean and inviting, so many kind details! We had our dogs with us and they asked if they could stay after trying the treats our host left!! The bed was comfy and bathroom very roomy. All the notes were clear and I wouldn’t change a thing. So grateful for a place to stay out of the way but easily accessed!
My wife and I stayed here 3 nights as part of a longer motorcycle ride exploring this area. Everything was as described. We loved the large porch and trendy styling. It’s quiet and private. The owner Joan lives in the next house down and is everything you’d look for in a perfect host. She went above and beyond to help us with our laundry situation. The nearby town of Downsville had 3 places to eat and Menomonie is 6 miles up the road. We’d easily do this again.
Stayed for 2 nights for our anniversary. We did some biking on the Red Cedar Trail and enjoyed the driving around the coutryside. If you like quiet and simple this is it. Sat on the otdoor patio and got to see the rose bush in bloom and a hummingbird. Bed was really comfortable. This place has everything you could possibly need (stocked items for the bath -my husband forgot a toothbrush they had one!) Kitchen was nice and fully loaded with what I wanted for making breakfast and a good coffee. Took some getting use to the 2 burner cooktop and microwave but clear instructions are there for you. Worked great. Best part is the Norwegian design throughout the home. Sweet and simple but elegant. I loved it. Thanks Joan & John!

We absolutely love our country setting! This is our third short-term rental, and we take great joy in providing a unique space for visitors to enjoy our area and its local amenities. Joan is a UW Stout Hospitality Grad, and works in the hospitality field, teaching at a technical college, while John is a builder. We take immense pride in our property, ensuring it is clean and well-maintained for our guests. The fact that we have many repeat visitors suggests we are doing something right. While we are always happy to assist our guests with anything they might need, we also respect their privacy. We know you will enjoy your stay at the Nordic Nest!
Why they chose this property
The Nordic Nest was built as a separate guest house from the owner's property. It is located in the country on a dead-end road, tucked away with views of the surrounding woods. This is not a remote space, as we do have a few neighbors on our road, but it is a quiet, quaint neighborhood. We are also in a great location , 6 miles south of Menomonie & UW-Stout and the quaint town of Downsville is within a mile south of the property. You can hop on the Red Cedar Trail for a nice walk, bike ride or snow ski in the winter. The Nordic nest has a beautiful patio to enjoy the stars at night or your morning coffee. Birds & bunnies are plentiful!
What makes this property unique
The Nordic Nest was created by our daughter Stefani and her dad, as showcased on the YouTube channel HomewithStefani. Many of Stefani's DIY projects are featured in this Nordic-inspired home. You will find several items in our home that Stefani completed, including the large island, the bathroom vanity, the kitchen's concrete countertops, and the bedroom side tables. Stefani drew inspiration from our Scandinavian heritage, and her father and brother also contributed to the build. Additionally, our son crafted the beautiful live-edge epoxy desk and coffee table. The entire project was truly a family affair. We are happy to share the space with you!
