The guest asked to see the home before booking it for two months (most guests simply book), and I agreed to an in-person tour before accepting the reservation. During that tour, a realtor was present and the “For Sale” sign was visible (as at that time I was considering selling the house); this was also acknowledged in our VRBO messages. Before check-in, I confirmed in writing that their full rental term would be honored, and that any occasional, brief showings would be coordinated by my licensed realtor with at least 24 hours’ notice. After moving in, the guest declined to accommodate any showings with my realtor, despite the prior understanding. Throughout, my communication remained respectful and solution-oriented including offering to cancel the remainder of the stay with a full refund for unused nights if they weren’t comfortable. The guest chose to move out early yet left a bad review now affecting future potential for bookings on VRBO. I’ve been hosting for 15 years and have consistently strong reviews on other platforms.
