Sanctuary By the Sea-Dramatic Oceanfront with Hot Tub
We named our home Sanctuary By the Sea because it is truly a haven to relax and rejuvenate. Step away from your everyday stresses and live life as it is meant to be.
Gaze at the ocean with views for miles and miles of the dramatic Northern California coastline. Watch the wildlife—pelicans, Canadian geese, even a family of 3 bald eagles as they soar. Gray whales migrate past the cove and you have a front-row seat.
Enjoy our beautiful oceanfront home with panoramic whitewater views from virtually every room in the house. The home sits on over an acre in the exclusive gated community of Pacific Reefs in Albion. You will say “WOW” when you walk into the beautiful home and look out the window at the crashing waves. The home is open, bright and quiet—only the sound of the waves can be heard.
Master bedroom suite has spectacular whitewater views. There is a king bed with 600 thread count linen. Master bathroom has granite countertop and luxurious thick towels. 2nd bedroom has ocean views and a queen bed with luxurious linens. Large 3rd bedroom has queen bed and twin bed. Linen for the beds and 1 set of towels per guest are provided at no additional charge.
Watch the waves crash while sitting in the warm and inviting living room with wood-burning stove. Vaulted ceilings create a spacious room. Large picture windows practically bring the outdoors in. Beautifully appointed with leather furniture. 37” TV with satellite service, DVD player, CD player and Bose & Definitive speakers.
Large dining table with comfortable seating for 8. Enjoy your meals while watching the ocean views from huge windows on 3 walls.
Fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, electric glass cooktop, microwave oven, toaster oven, icemaker and blender. Coffee grinder, coffee maker and electric tea kettle also provided.
2 spacious decks--one has a gas grill and dining area and the other has a private hot tub offering dramatic ocean views.
Why cook when there are 2 gourmet restaurants within a 5-minute drive. The Ledford House is just over the bridge (a 2-minute drive) and offers a nightly bistro dinner featuring 3 courses. Albion River Inn is just a few minutes beyond Ledford House and offers Happy Hour with wines and complimentary appetizers. We are just 7 miles south of Mendocino which has even more dining options.

The stay checked off one that has been on my long time bucket list ... to stay at one of those beautiful homes overlooking the ocean. Beautiful ocean view from hot tub, deer grazing outside our dining room window with ocean view, a fox lying in the sun on front deck, host had all the amenities and more, and gorgeous sunsets.

Beautiful peaceful property, we loved the hot tub. Perfect base for hiking the Mendocino area. Very quiet location with stunning views. Highly recommended!
My family and I had a wonderful stay at Sanctuary by the Sea. The location was outstanding. Views were amazing and it was close to beaches, hiking and shopping. Flint was quick to respond to my emails and there was also helpful information at the house. Hope to stay there again soon!
Saw the views of this home online and felt is was a perfect destination to host Thanksgiving dinner with family. It was a hit with me and the family. The weather was clear so we could enjoy the end view of the water and coastline. This place is a gem and would come back anytime
This is a great place to relax and unwind. We spent most of the time sitting in the yard overlooking the ocean, gazing at the waves, deer, sea birds and stars. The house is roomy and comfortable. It had everything we needed.
Pictures did not do justice to this home. Most beautiful view of the crashing waves, in a wonderfully quiet private community.
Clean and spacious and huge communal space. Would definitely stay again!
I spent one month here with family coming and going. It couldn’t have been a better experience. The view was phenomenal and so enjoyed all the wildlife around. I will definitely be back.

Spacious for 6 people, marvelous view of the ocean.
The main attraction is the view of the ocean. The house is spacious and comfortable
for 6 people, 7 people is possible but might be tight. For people who like to cook: the
kitchen is quite well equipped.
Spent 3 nights at this fantastic property.
Clean, well stocked. Pictures accurate on the listing. Views of ocean take your breath away. Plenty of room for 3 couples. 10-15 minutes from town of Mendocino.
We cannot wait for another opportunity to visit this beautiful place!
The location and views are certainly the standouts for this property. While it was occasionally socked in with fog, most of the time we had at least partial visibility of Whitesboro Cove and the coast on the opposite side, but it was always a different view. I woke up one night at 3 am and it was completely clear with the lights from the Ledger House reflecting on the water below. The house seems to be perfectly preserved from the 70s, and is clean and well-appointed (except for lacking a broom) with modern appliances. Lots of room with 3 beds for my 2 kids to spread out. The hot tub with the ocean view was great, though the filter didn't seem to be working/running great. Lots of firewood and the big fireplace was easy to light and cozied up the house on colder nights. The location was great, five minutes from a small grocery that has all the basics and two nice restaurants, and a short drive to Mendocino that has everything. The really great part was that in either direction there are state parks everywhere with beach/tidepool access on the coast an often hiking trails in redwoods inland. I wish there was more access to the coast within the subdivision, but its all private so can't be helped (though vacant lots provided new views of the coast). Elk is 20~ mins south and has a great beach, cafes, and a cash only bar open on weekends that is something to experience. We had a great 4-night stay and wish we'd spent less time in SF and more here.
This is our second time using this property and we've loved it each time. The house is a perfect for a comfy, relaxing getaway. We had easy access to the sites in the area, but you don't have to leave to enjoy the area. The views are spectacular from the house!
Our stay was very nice. Everything in perfect order, but the best was the owners communication. First, he pre-called on a possible potential issue with the hot tub and was going to talk us through any issues (which by the way were already taken care of before our arrival!). Then we called him due to an issue with the TV (and the world series on LOL). he walked us through that and eventually got support help on the line. Exceptional detail on his part. Lovely stay
We literally stopped in our tracks and gasped at the view when we walked in the front door and saw the coastal view! My brother and I were there to celebrate our parents 75th birthdays with our spouses. It was a phenomenal adult get away. House had everything we could ask for and we’d love to go back
Stunning views, well appointed. Everything. you could possibly imagine in a Northern California coastal experience. Our hosts could not have been more responsive and accommodating. . . A win, win for all.
The owner went above and beyond to make our vacation stay perfect. Home was immaculate and everything in working order. We saw foxes, deer, raccoon in our yard. And house located only yards away from cliff in back yard. We plan on returning soon. Thank you, Flint!
The house was lovely, the view was spectacular, the hot tub was great, and it’s close to Mendocino and Elk. We had a wonderful visit, very relaxing.

About the host
Hosted by Flint
We’re Janet & Flint. Although we first met in college, we went in separate directions to pursue our individual life dreams after graduation. As fate would have it, 8 years later we reconnected again in the Bay Area as we each started our careers. The timing and circumstances were apparently right, and we have been together ever since, first living in Silicon Valley and then relocating in 2010 to Santa Rosa, California.
Why they chose this property
We had been visiting the Mendocino coast for years. When we moved to Santa Rosa, we realized that we were close enough to Mendocino to enjoy a place of our own…. a Sanctuary By the Sea. We knew this was the right property as soon as we walked in the front door and saw the spectacular oceanfront views of Whitesboro Bay. The unobstructed whitewater and coastal views are the ultimate in relaxation, especially from the private hot tub. We love spending time at the Sanctuary but our work schedules keep us from visiting as much as we would like. We decided to share the Sanctuary with our VRBO guests.
What makes this property unique
Sanctuary By the Sea has the unique blend of seclusion and privacy (private community with locked gate), yet very close to the diverse activities of the Mendocino coast. Just 7 miles north is the quaint village of Mendocino, with world-class restaurants and shopping. We are close to the wine tasting region of Anderson Valley as well as the unspoiled beauty of hiking, kayaking, canoeing and diving in several nearby state parks. There is a sand beach just 5 minutes away. Or, just simply relax… at the Sanctuary By the Sea.
