This is going to be a long review that I recommend you read the full thing. Even with the not so good things, it’s still hard to recommend against the house. I actually feel bad writing them, but I think people should know.
The good:
To start, the house is exactly as picured/described. It’s in a safe, beautiful neighborhood that is super walkable and very close to downtown. It’s also a really peaceful neighborhood and the neighbors are lovely. Parking was on the street and I didn’t have any issues finding space right in front of the house for over a month.
To get to Wrightsville Beach, it’s an easy 15-20 min drive. Topsail is about an hour away (and totally worth the visit if you have time).
Christine, the host, is great. She is super responsive to any needs and has really great tips about places to go/things to do.
The rest:
Not sure how many people know this before they visit Wilmington, but it has toxic water. Definitely look it up for more info. With that said, there isn’t a water filtration system under the kitchen sink (reverse osmosis filters are best to remove these chemicals). Maybe not a huge deal for a weekend, but I was there a bit over a month. I don’t think it’s something hosts are required to do by law. So, it might be a rare thing for vacation homes in Wilmington, but don’t drink the tap water or brush your teeth/wash your face with it.
This is a really very personal preference, but the upstairs bedroom does not have a door. I have a cat and generally close doors to any room that I don’t want her in…especially in vacation homes. I, unfortunately, couldn’t keep her out of that room. Once she went up, I barely saw her again.
Which leads to the next issue, my cat (who is an indoor only/only pet) got fleas while we were there. Since she rarely came downstairs/would hide if I went up, I didn’t notice she had fleas until we got back to our own home.
I let Christine know on 10/25/21, and she said she is going to treat for them.
