About this property

Contemporary in the Woods

Retreat to a 5 acre home site with 11 acres of adjacent forest of quiet, soaring eagles and deer visits. A walkabout nature trail through the woods circles the home site and pond. Dine and relax on your private romantic gazebo as you view the water. This modern style, original art-filled home was completed in 2012 . The house has a very large master with king bed and luxury bath and the upstairs guest room has 2 double beds with bath. The living room sofa sleeps one and there is a first floor powder room. Plenty of driveway to park a boat trailer. This home is fully equipped and accommodating for the best vacation experience. The 1st floor primary bedroom with king bed has a small deck and patio door. The walk-in Elfa furnished closet includes luggage rack. Wall mounted flat panel TV with Direct TV, ceiling fan, in room heat and AC control.

The usual minimum stay is 4 nights, but there are summer dates with a two night minimum when guest bookings leave open dates. Check the calendar for short visit options, or send an inquiry.

The detached garage has an apartment on the 2nd floor, occupied year round by a lovely couple who tend the flower gardens.

Great place, centrally located on the island.

A great house, well stocked kitchen. Close to Friday Harbor but in a quiet woods. A very nice primary bathroom. The frogs sang us a chorus each night. The trash cans were a bit confusing but that’s minor. We had a wonderful time here.

Wonderful Property in a Wonderful Place

We stayed five nights and absolutely loved it! Spacious with great amenities. Quiet and fairly close to town. But everywhere is close to town on San Juan Island. We will be back!

Beautiful secluded home

This is a beautiful, well stocked home, not just a rental house. It’s quiet with birds, gardens, outdoor seating. We rarely saw any signs of the onsite manager and we felt our privacy was respected. It is about a 15 minute drive to any place on the island so it is a nice location. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

The Purple House in the Woods

We love everything about this home. Great location hidden away but still only 10 minutes from downtown (and every other place on the island). It’s very well stocked, has everything one could need. Beds are all very comfortable. Staying here is like staying at your own home or better!

Such a great home

My kids and I stayed here for a short trip to San Juan. We could not have asked for anything better. The home is beautiful and comfortable. Everything you could need is provided. The forested setting, art, books and puzzles made me wish we could stay much longer. Staying here is a nice respite from the fun but commercial Friday Harbor. Highly recommend!

Wonderful, magical retreat

Jeanne’s property is a perfect retreat on the beautiful San Juan Island. We enjoyed the property’s beautiful gardens. The house is perfect for our family of four. A wonderfully stocked kitchen, plenty of puzzles and books and the house was full of amazing art. Jeanne was a gracious host and super responsive. We will definitely be back!

Beautiful home in the woods

This home was perfect for our family. We enjoyed the accommodations. The electricity went out but even that was an adventure since there were lanterns provided to help get around. The kitchen had everything for making an evening meal of tacos. The beds were comfy. It was a nice stay in this home.

Purple Heaven

We would highly recommend this home for your next getaway. It was a clean comfortable, artsy place in the woods. It is close to town and all the beaches. The property and walking path are wonderful. Jeanne’s home is beautifully and peacefully situated, and the interior is a perfect connection to the surroundings. Everything we could have wished for in our home away from home was available, and the kitchen was one of the best stocked kitchens we’ve had in a vacation rental. The quality of the furnishings, art, linens, bedding, and the availability of appliances and technology (when we wanted it), are noteworthy because they all appear to be thoughtfully provided. We loved our time at this home.

Wonderful home on a beautiful property

My family of five (including three young boys ages 6, 9 and 12) thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful home. It had everything we needed and then some—an outdoor mosquito-proof sitting area overlooking a picturesque pond, a yoga platform by the trees, plentiful decks surrounding the house, and a fun walking trail with artwork along the way. The house itself felt luxurious with every amenity a vacationer might need. The owner was very welcoming, communicative and helpful. We would highly recommend this property.

House in the woods

The property is beautiful with nice big ceilings. It's always nice to have a whole house to yourself and family. This is not however a good property for little ones. It is full of beautiful, breakable objects at their reaching level. The house is full of light and openess but the bedrooms do not have room darkening shades so if you are sensitive to light and want to sleep in on vacation, good luck. Having to drive 15-20 min to get into town can be a hassle too if you need to get anything at the store. The house is very clean and the owner really cares about the upkeep. She is very nice and easy to work with. Check in and out was super easy.

Centrally located, private oasis

This home is perfectly situated in the middle of San Juan Island - 15-20 minutes' drive from all points of interest on the island. The setting is private, serene, and beautifully landscaped. The owner has lovingly appointed this home with attention to detail inside and outside and has entrusted her guests with stunning artworks and comfortable furnishings. The kitchen is a dream with every conceivable item you could possibly want to prepare a culinary masterpiece. We purchased fresh mussels from Wescott Shellfish Farms (order/pay online in advance and pick up the next day - pay attention to their hours) and found everything we needed to cook several other meals throughout our four-night stay. Beds are comfortable, linens are luxurious. The owner provides valuable information about island access, activities, and other information to newcomers. Great communication via email and printed materials inside the home. We have stayed in various other VRBO units on the island but this one was our favorite - we will return time and again.

Beware!

Achtung! There is a reason this property is available if you make last minute reservations. I urge anyone to do their due dilgence before renting 35 Sacred Moon Way ( property was formerly listed under a different address). Our experience was most unpleasant for the price, location, comparables, and dealing with the host. has a former address. This house is extremely hot during the summer due to the high ceilings & skylights, cluttered and definitely “lived in.” It is like house-sitting (eg, host’s personal documents and dead inkprinters taking up counter space, sticky notes everywhere, overall dirty). Fulk disclosure: host claims that she incurred TEN HOURS of cleaning expenses at $30/hour for the “mess” left by 3 professional adults and 12 year old. I suspect most of the positive reviewers did not actually review their final billing statement. As to cleaning: Host misrepresents on VRBO as of 6/29/21 that their COVID cleaning protocol during COVID (enforced over the island at time of my stay) necessitated 24-hours prior to turn-over. That was not true. Host/owner had back-to -back rentals & could not adjust our dates because someone had to check in @4 PM our leave day. Doesn’t really matter, but be aware you are dealing with a host who misrepresents. Live & learn. Don’t recommend this place to anyone visiting the beautiful San Juans.. If you want clutter, chaos, and disorganized penny pinching- feel welcome to visit the hot purple mess of horrors.

Owner, Jeanne fell in love with this island in 1976 when she was there to teach a class, visited several times over the years and in 2006 two families found the 16-acre parcel of our dreams. Both families live in busy So CA and they wanted the peace and privacy that comes with the rural forest and lots of space. Their love of the ocean, nature, art and sculpture fill the house and gardens.

Why they chose this property

This custom property is a low VOC, low allergen, amenity-filled home situated so light fills the house and every piece of art has a story. Kids have room to explore, enjoy a rural environment, see stars at night while parents read, BBQ, take walks and enjoy porch and patio sitting time. It's nice to be away from the traffic and town. Enjoy the craftsmanship and love that the island artisans built into my home and the computer and Starlink internet connection available for guests.

What makes this property unique

The wetlands behind the house has frogs, dragon flies & tad poles. The small deer come to drink and then walk around the lawn perimeters. The walkabout is a perfect 1/4 mile walk thru the woods to start and end each day. The property is in the island center, so Lime Kiln State Park, American Beach, Friday Harbor town or Roche Harbor are only a 20 minute scenic drive away.
