About this property

Charming West Coast Cottage Near Beach

Our cottage has a charming "Hemingway" style, and is sure to be a favourite with beautiful gardens and the sea nearby. Spend your days in the comfort of this magical cottage, tucked away among trees as the waves crash on the famous pink sands nearby.

Tamarind Cottage rests on an elevated garden bluff, with plantings of lush tropical palms and trees leading to a cooling "tree-house" feeling. A stairway leads you down through the garden and to the sea with turquoise waters.

There are two large king size bedrooms cooled by A/C and ceiling fans, and each have their own en-suite bathrooms. The open plan cottage has an airy feel, with a comfortable living room flowing out to the large wrap-around verandah. The kitchen is outfitted with all the appliances and kitchenware you'll need while on vacation. The decorations were chosen to make this feel like a relaxed and casual beach house.

A spacious wrap around verandah completes the tropical setting where you can enjoy endless days, reading, napping, and dining under the stars.

The property manager is just a phone call or e-mail away should you need a hand with anything. A housekeeper is also included in the rate of the cottage for one half day a week. Additional cleanings can be arranged if necessary. We strongly recommend reserving in advance as it is a small island with limited availability.

A 5th person can be accommodated at the cottage for $25 usd per night + the cost of a rollaway bed that our concierge department can arrange for you. Also, due to the height of the patio, we only accept children over 5 years old at this time.

What a wonderful place! love it love it love it here. Will definitely be back soon. Have to say VAL - what a lovely housekeeper and she kept the cottage lovely and clean, everyone we spoke to were so friendly and welcoming. The beach at the bottom of the garden (a bit rocky at first) has wonderful sea life which I explored every morning. Bye Bye for now!

Truly magical & stunning cottage with a lot of care & attention to detail. The sound of the lapping waves, frogs, birdsong and monkeys running across the roof are so calming & peaceful. We made good friends with the birds(they prefer pineapple to melon FYI) . An incredible location for local restaurants and bars- could not have asked for a more. Thank You!

The house is lovely and the sounds of the waves and the privacy were wonderful. Neil found the bed hard and I did not. We had issues and you resolved them right away. Val did a great job cleaning and it was a special getaway for us.

Absolutely fabulous from beginning to end

The accommodation is in a superb location. Sitting on the veranda listening to the Sea and birds during the day, frogs and crickets at night was wonderful. The accommodation was really well appointed with two equal sizes bedrooms. We loved the short walk down the steps to the sea in the morning to drink our tea and coffee. The staff were very attentive and responsive. If you want somewhere special that is quiet but close to lively a short taxi ride away, I cannot recommend this enough, both the property, the booking experience and the experience with the cleaners and support staff.

Communication was great, access to property was clear and easy. Darling cottage, felt like a mermaid living in a coral cottage. Access to the beach was wonderful, found great sandy entrances into the water, snorkeling and perfect water to wade and swim in. Plenty of cookware to cook. Beautiful dining space out on the patio!AC in bedrooms was nice, bring earplugs for the first night or so while you get used to the sounds of the nighttime frogs & middle of the night rains on the roof. We eventually got used to it. The bed may be perfect for some, but it was rather firm and that was just about my only complaint. Otherwise a LOVELY stay!

Private and intimate location

Great place with a private deck and quick access to the waterfront. You can’t swim at the private beach due to shallow coral, but great for dipping your feet in the water. A quick walk down the beach allows better access. You might even see monkeys.

Ideal location and setup

This cottage is well-equipped and managed. It is in a great location for access to the water and everything you might want to do on Barbados. Highly recommend.

This place made our stay in Barbados a success

We had a wonderful stay at the cottage, 100% as per pictures and description. Very good communication with the agency prior arrival, the beach is stunning and sunsets amazing. We would recommend without hesitation and go back there if the occasion presents itself. We enjoyed the privacy of the cottage and the sound of the waves. Perfect place.

Charming Cottage

This is a very charming cottage in a nice setting close to a quiet beach. Nice shaded deck, and walking distance to some local restaurants. We had a few minor issues that were addressed immediately. This was our second visit here and we look forward to a third visit.

We had a beautiful stay in Tamarind cottage. It was perfect. It was so good to be away from the big resorts and a peaceful place to come back to after a day out exploring the island. It was roomy and had everything we needed. I loved the white washed walls. The tropical garden was lovely and it was wonderful seeing the monkey. We had privacy.

Good but room for improvement

We booked Tamarind Cottage because of its garden and direct access onto the beach.It is one of 5 properties on the James Bay Apartments site situated between 2 apartments at the front near the road and 2 apartments at the rear near the beach.The gardens are communal and at the time of our visit access was restricted by construction work which also impeded beach access but didn’t stop me going for a swim most morning.The house and terrace are as described but having a direct sea view from either is a stretch due to the mature trees and shrubs that attract a range of birds and of course the monkeys and also the other property in front.There are a few refurbishments / reorganisations inside that would have made our stay better but nothing significant, the key is a bit stiff and plugs in sinks need replacing and crockery needs to be reachable for short people.Bluescape managed the stay professionally and efficiently and I’d definitely use them again to book property in Barbados either directly or through a booking site.

We loved Tamarind Cottage! A stone's throw from a beautiful beach, quiet location but on a bus route and within walking distance of a fish market and groceries sold on the street. The Cottage was beautifully furnished (although kitchen could do with updating), an extensive verandah offered sea glimpses, dining table/chairs and loungers from which we saw hummingbirds and a monkey in the trees. Inside was very tastefully furnished, a real bajan vibe and we instantly felt at home. Beds were comfortable (and very large) and we hardly needed to use the air conditioning available as shutters enabled sea breezes to cool things down. Very friendly lady who cleaned for us and a friendly, helpful gardener (Ricky). The beach is down a flight of steps past a beachfront property where you can sunbathe and snorkel, although a bit rocky so water shoes are recommended. We preferred Heywood beach in Speightstown as it offered better snorkeling and was more extensive. No hesitation in recommending!

Quiet, cozy, sweet location!

Tamarind Cottage was perfect for private, laid-back family time. The space is well-appointed for casual comfort and relaxation—inside and out—with gracious open-air space to stretch-out and entertain our friends. The cottage is nestled in tamarind trees a few flights of stairs up from a stretch of sandy beach, warm swimmable waters, and gorgeous sunsets. Ocean sounds (perhaps a passing rain shower) lull you to sleep, and morning bird chatter wake you. We completely lost track of time! Neighbors in the apartments above and below were upbeat and friendly; property caretakers are lovely people. Homecooked meals and restaurant take-out on the veranda were our usual fare this visit. A rum bar, fish market, and fruit & veggie stand are a 10-minute walk north. A small grocery market and bakery are about a mile south, and the supermarket in Holetown has anything else you need. Excellent casual and upscale restaurants options are a quick bus/taxi ride away. We adhered to Covid-19 protocol and felt safe in all of these environments. Make sure you plan ahead for year-end business closures. A restorative holiday was enjoyed by all!

We were not given the code for the gate on arrival.

We arrived on a Sunday evening and had no code to get in through the gate. Fortunately we managed to break in through the side gate as no one got back to us until the next day. Other than that it was a fantastic location and simple, yet comfortable accommodation. After the first day communication was good with the property manager. Could have done with housekeeping twice instead of once in the 9 night stay.

Tamarind Cottage is a beautiful and comfortable cottage in a peaceful setting on the ocean.

We had a wonderful stay at Tamarind Cottage! The home was very comfortable for four people and we loved being able to sit on the deck shaded by trees, hear the waves and walk down the stairs to the ocean. The location is wonderful and a half mile walk to our favorite beach near JuJu's Beach Bar. We commented more than once about how well equipped the kitchen is. The property manager was extremely helpful and accommodating if we had any questions - we didn't need much help though as they had thought of everything. In addition to lounge chairs to use at the small beach on the property, there are also kayaks and stand up paddle boards for shared use with guests renting other apartments on the grounds. The Cottage grounds is shared by other apartments - so there are a few people walking by from time to time. We enjoyed getting to know some of the other guests nearby- that's up to you if you interact much or not. If you plan to do cooking keep in mind it is an electric stove and a little tight cooking quarters. You will enjoy your stay at Tamarind Cottage!
