About this property
Spacious detached villa in lush tropical gardens, 2 mins stroll to sea and pool.
Sip fruit juice or morning coffee and relax on the shady verandah and looking out over lush tropical gardens while humming birds dart from one flower to another and tiny yellow birds build nests in the tall trees.
Later, pick up your towel and wander out of the back gate to take a dip just across the road - it's only a two minute stroll.
Enjoy jet skiing, sail on a glass bottom boat or simply stroll around this lovely area, calling in at the Chattel Village to buy something to take home.
Have lunch with the Caribbean lapping at your toes ..... time is not important so stay to watch a magnificent sunset .... then saunter back to Mangoes Villa for a glass of wine, this time looking over the fairy-lit garden as the sky fades through purple velvet to twinkling black and silver.
Chat about dinner tonight - what's it going to be and where? Local food? Barbecue? Fine dining? There are so many choices.
At the end of a happy day slip between the cool sheets and dream of tomorrow .....

About the host
Hosted by Cath and Ian Mills
Hi there,
We are Cath and Ian Mills (Most of the writing on this site is mine - Cath's. That's us above, at a lovely restaurant a bit North of Mangoes - The Fish Pot)
We love our own holidays and know how important it is to re-charge those batteries once in a while so we do our best to ensure that all of our guests have a wonderful holiday experience.
We come out to Mangoes twice per year to make sure everything's ok or to make improvements and ..... to enjoy!
You want to know more about us?
Well, we've both worked with people for many years. Before we started running our own businesses, I used to work in child care whilst Ian was in charge of the local Careers department.
Next we had three, very hands on, businesses of our own and eventually "retired" (haha) in 2021. You hear many retired people, including us, say they have never been busier!
We were married on April Fool's day (which tips you off as to our sense of humour!) and recently celebrated our 41st wedding anniversary in this year of 2023.

Why they chose this property
We've been travelling to Barbados for around 35 years and have forgotten how many times we've visited.
Way back in the past, I had a 'thing' about Barbados. I think it started when Cadburys chocolate people came to school with a film of 'How we make chocolate' and those little penny bars to give out, one each. I was about 7/8 and very impressionable. The film started with sugar cane cutting in Barbados .... the sky was so blue, the vegetation so lush .....
When I was around 20, there was a documentary about the island showing as the 'second film' at the cinema. There it was again, that intense blue, the emerald greenery, the vibrant colours of the flowers .... how could I resist? I was sunk!!!
When a certain airline (who I suppose must remain nameless) brought the flights down to a realistic price, our whole family took advantage. At first we stayed on the South Coast, which is lovely, but when we found the Sunset Crest/Holetown area, I felt I'd come home.
This genteel area has more gentle seas, the underwater national park (so the snorkeling is great) and it has great facilities - everything's on the doorstep. I always tell guests that they don't need a car here except for sightseeing purposes.
The area has seen some sympathetic re-development in recent years, with pleasing results. The facilities are right up to date for the 21st century whilst all the character and charm of the Caribbean has been preserved, notably the chattel village - a cute collection of brightly painted wooden shanties selling a wide range of goods. By contrast, we have Lime Grove, a smart, semi open-plan shopping mall selling all the top designer labels. It offers several restaurants and a cinema too.
We saw Mangoes in Spring of 2003 and I fell in love instantly. In my eyes it was the perfect house in the perfect place. It did need a lot of TLC, but after quite a bit of updating, it's now a home we are proud to share and we have every confidence that our guests will love it too.

What makes this property unique
I knew I wanted to buy a big house (big enough for all the family) in Sunset crest/Holetown area - it's such a nice, peaceful tree-lined, up-market place.
It took a lot of planning and hard work to acquire Mangoes - I prepared my personal projection based on our finances eight years in advance of the year we bought and I'm so glad it all came right! We saw Mangoes in Spring of 2003 and I fell in love instantly.
What made me do that? Well .....
The proximity to the beach could only be better if the situation were beach-front..... we are just across the road; a two minute walk at most! We just grab a towel, take the tiny key for the wrought iron doors, leave the breeze streaming through and cross the road for a swim in the warm Caribbean. If a storm has whipped up the waves a bit too much, we use the pool which is also just across the road.
I like to swim in the late afternoon and to watch the sky changing from blue, through pink and gold to a velvety violet as evening begins. After swimming, we often have a drink at the beach bar and watch the sun setting over the sea.
The other thing that smote me instantly were the gardens which were a dream. I was entranced by the gazebo, secretly tucked away in the secluded, shady, rear garden...... it's where we have breakfast every morning when we are at Mangoes.
Generally, we couldn't have a better location, we are within easy walking distance of all the amenities; a wide range of shops, bars, banks, supermarket, restaurants to suit all pockets - what more could anyone want?
Every little thing we have done to Mangoes has made it that little bit nicer, brighter, homier.
