About this property
Rustic retreat on 40 acres near Thompsonville with 2bdr, AC, Wifi. Sleeps 6
We are excited to share our home in northern Michigan. While it’s not directly on a lake, it’s the perfect "base camp" for exploring the lakeshore, Traverse City, and the many nearby golf courses. We're just a few miles from Crystal Mountain, offering easy access to outdoor adventures year-round.
Nestled in a peaceful setting, our retreat lets you unwind in nature, where the only sounds you’ll hear are birds and frogs. Come experience the beauty of northern Michigan and make our place your home away from home!
Sleeping arrangements: on the first floor, there is a comfortable day bed as well as a couch (non-pullout). Up the spiral staircase are the two bedrooms. One bedroom has two twin beds and the other has a twin-over-full bunk bed. That room also has a tv.
The kitchen is fully equipped with all the essential tools and utensils, along with pantry staples like coffee, hot cocoa mix, tea, oats, flour, sugar, spices, cooking oils, and popcorn kernels with popcorn oil. Guests are welcome to use anything they need during their stay. Cooking on the antique stove is not difficult, and instructions are provided.
In the living room, you'll find a TV, and both TVs in the home are equipped with Firesticks, giving you access to a variety of streaming services, including Hulu, Max, Disney+, Netflix, Prime Video, Paramount+, and Peacock. For those who need to work or stay connected, there’s a dedicated desk and reliable Wi-Fi.
The bathroom is roomy with an invigorating, high-pressure shower. Soap, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, and a first aid kit are provided.
Step outside and explore 40 acres of open fields and serene woods, perfect for wandering, wildlife spotting, or simply soaking in the quiet beauty of nature. If you enjoy camping, feel free to bring a tent and sleeping bags—you can experience the outdoors while staying close to the comforts of home.
For outdoor enthusiasts, deer hunting is permitted on the property, and a public access point to the Betsie River is just down the road for fishing. In the evenings, gather around the firepit (firewood provided) or fire up the small propane grill for a meal under the stars. Speaking of stars—our property is wonderfully secluded, with minimal light pollution and only one neighbor across the field, making it an ideal spot for stargazing. Some things to note: This house is a work in progress. We have been working on rehabbing it for a few years now and have not yet been able to replace the carpet. Although it is discolored due to age and heating with wood, we assure you that we clean it regularly. It is a rustic home and not very handicap accessible. The stairs are unique and may not be for everyone - please see our photos for a better look.
You may see a cat roaming about - that is Bill. He is friendly and very self-sufficient. He has a home in the barn but will come around for socializing from time to time.
