We really enjoyed our stay and appreciated so much the layout. The entire facility was just what we wanted and was near to shopping centers and restaurants. We will definitely stay there again.
This little cottage is amazing. Big enough to feel better than a hotel and small enough to be cozy. Quiet area secluded in the woods yet close to anything you need.
This was the perfect place for my and my husband to have a little getaway. Very clean and spacious and had everything we needed for our stay. We loved all the big windows to watch the deer running and feeding in the woods. Not far at all from the landers center which is what sold us on it. Would love to stay again in the future!
This was our third stay here. We love this quiet beautiful location. The cottage has everything you could need and is so cozy and comfortable. Love it here! We'll be back. 😃
I needed a break from my life. A sabbatical! The peace and quiet was perfect. The house was comfortable with little added touches that made me feel like a guest. I’ll definitely be coming again!
My husband and I have ties in the Hernando/Memphis area so visit each year. We stayed at Deer Run for 12 nights. The location worked perfectly for easy access to surrounding communities as well as Hernando.
It was quiet and comfortable.
We stayed here in 2017 and again the past few nights. We are transitioning after selling our home. Everything was wonderful and as described. Ruth is a wonderful host!
Ruth’s cottage has all the comforts of home. We love the spaciousness & details she has added to make this cute mini home very welcoming. Thanks again Ruth! I’m sure we’ll be back!
It's hard to believe this tranquil property in the woods is just 5 minutes from restaurants and stores, but there it is. Wonderfully relaxed and comfortable, just perfect for a couple or a single traveller. Our favorite thing was watching fireflies in the evening. Kitchen is well equipped with everything you need to eat in as much as you like. We'll definitely return when we come to visit family in the area. Ruth is a very gracious and responsive host.
When I found Deer Run online, I instantly fell in love. My husband and I are both nature lovers and this was the perfect little getaway we needed. The cottage is so cozy and inviting. It has everything you need and then some. It's tucked away, yet close and accessible to so much. Ruth and Simon were very kind and helpful. On Sunday, three does and a fawn came through the yard and one of our favorite mem

Cute cottage
The place was adorable and very close to everything you'd need. I loved the concrete flooring and the tall open windows. Ruth did a great job trying to think of everything you'd need.
The shower, refrigerator, and kitchen appliances could use some extra attention as far as cleanliness is concerned. The bathroom shower mat and shower curtain have seen better days. The fridge needed to be cleaned and there was old coffee in the pot. I'm being picky.
The main reason I like using VRBO is the privacy you get compared to other platforms or hotels. There appeared to be construction/other work happening while we there, so there were alot of cars and foot traffic. As a result, I didnt take advantage of the porch (also insanely hot weather), leaving the window coverings open, or exploring the grounds. But that was my decision.
I think it would be more accurate to say that the main house, just across the driveway from the cottage, overlooks the beautiful pond. The cottage overlooks another structure beside the main house (where much of the work was occurring), although the pond can be seen from the cottage itself. All just footsteps away. I didn't expect all of the structures to be situated so closely, so I was disappointed in the lack of "privacy" that I had expected as it felt like more of a shared space even though we had the cottage to ourselves.
Ruth was very responsive and respectful of our privacy. Overall, we had great stay at the cottage.
The cottage is great. I have used it multiple times in the last few months. The owners is very nice and accommodating. She makes the stay very enjoyable.
Nice place and very clean. Would recommend having a better check out process to make it easier to contact to let them know you have departed. Other than that it was great and relaxing
Ruth was extremely helpful and the cottage is perfect, clean, quiet has everything you would need. Location was perfect. Will be booking again on my next visit. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Really nice place to stay in Hernando!
The property was so nice, relaxing and quiet.
The unit was clean and has really pretty views of the woods from the bedroom area.
The owner is lovely!
Our stay at Deer Run was fantastic. We were a mere 30 minutes away from Memphis, and DeSoto County is a charming area with a Southern small-town feel. We enjoyed the relative seclusion of our cabin, as the property is tucked away into the woods. We enjoyed watching the deer that populate the property, and the cabin itself was spacious.
First, I just have to say, "Ruth you are great VRBO host!" Poor dear, she was on vacation, but that did not stop her from responding promptly every time I contacted her. Thank you so much!
This was a cute cottage. It's in a quiet and peaceful area. This place is great for a couple like us, or even for a single person. We will stay here again. Thanks Ruth!
My mom and I were in town to visit some friends and had an amazing time at the cottage!!! Ruby was in constant contact with me and very polite. Already looking to book my next stay here!
Having all the amenities nearby and Memphis only a half hour away yet quiet and private and secluded surroundings made this a perfect getaway spot.

About the host
Hosted by Ruth P Schwartz
I'm a caregiver to my mother and son. I have a degree in Culinary Arts which use to cook for my family and friends. We have four cats and two very friendly dogs. I enjoy going to the symphony, plays, movies, art showings, and being close to nature. I've been known to create stained glass, jewelry, and weld. My mom was an avid gardener at one time and hopefully you will see the splendor of her labor in our gardens. I'm getting ready to start some raised bed vegetable gardens this Spring. So I'm hoping to have the fruits of my labor to share with my guest. My top shows are: Outlander (books and TV), Game of Thrones (again books and TV), The Americans, Orphan Black, and Poldark.
Why they chose this property
Deer Run is very close to everything that you need, but we are tucked away. We have a pond with a gazebo to sit and enjoy nature. When you look out of some of the windows in the Guest Cottage, you feel like you are up in a treehouse. The woods are very close to the property. It is a very serene setting.
What makes this property unique
I fell in love with this property from the moment I drove up the tree lined driveway. I built the Guest Cottage with lots of huge windows so that you could feel like you were outside. Birds and deer come to visit. We have occasionally seen foxes and a bobcat. There is a table on the front porch where you can sit and have coffee. Deer Run is a short drive from Memphis, TN and everything it has to offer. Dining. Museums. Nightlife. Beale Street. Basketball. Elvis. Graceland. Botanical Gardens. Arboretum. Festivals. Sun Studio. Gibson Guitor Factory. Parks. Forest. Theatre. Symphony. Opera.
