This historic duplex is located in the heart of Portland's most unique neighborhoods: the Alberta Arts District, where there is always something unbelievable to look at, like people riding bikes while juggling. Amazing restaurants to eat at; it’s home to Portland's culinary creativity. Fun pubs to have a drink; locally brewed beers won't disappoint. And loads of independent stores to purchase gifts, adorable dresses, and funky jewelry await you. The best part is it’s the location you hope to get when booking a vacation rental. Within walking distance to all on Alberta Street, it’s 15 minutes by car from the airport and 10 minutes by car to downtown Portland. The bus stop is a block away, and there is free street parking.

High Gear (the upper level of the duplex) has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, with an open living, dining, and kitchen area. The first floor houses 3 of the bedrooms: 2 with queen beds and the third with a bunk bed (double lower and twin above). The first floor also has a full bath with a walk-in shower. The second floor houses a fourth bedroom, a loft area with a futon and skylights, and a gorgeous full bathroom.

The kitchen is fully stocked, from coffee grinder to microwave oven to blender. You will be able to cook up a feast and eat in comfort at the wood dining table.

One major perk about renting with us at Shift Vacation Rentals is the coupons our lovely neighbors share with our guests. Frock Boutique, Tin Shed, Mimosa Studios, Eco Vibe Apparel, Imelda's Shoes, Crafty Wonderland, and more... You get discounts to all these wonderful places! So eat, drink, and shop—all just a stroll away and all at a discounted price!

The side yard boasts an exterior ping-pong table, picnic table, propane BBQ, and tree-covered sitting area. In nice weather, it’s a perfect spot to enjoy a meal or let the kids run free!

A well-behaved pet is allowed. The pet fee is $175.

The house has been newly gutted and remodeled using sustainable and local materials and has inspiring touches throughout. It promises to be one of the best vacation rentals in all of Portland.

For larger groups, this house can be rented along with Low Gear, the 3-bedroom, 1.5-bathroom rental located in the lower section of this duplex.

Perfect location

My friends and I stayed here for our annual girls trip and it was perfect. The property was unique and made for some great photo ops. There are a lot of shops, restaurants, and bars within walking distance of the house and everything else is a short car ride away. The beds were also very comfortable. Would definitely stay here again!

Just book! Owners are incredible host who care about your comfort and experience. Property is clean, in a great location and is well stocked with everything you need. We visited Portland for my Sisters wedding, Michelle and Klaas’s house was perfect for the gathering. We had a fantastic stay!

Wonderful property/Ideal location

Such a pleasure to have stayed here! Family vacation with 6 adults, plenty of room and thoughtfully furnished with all the essentials. Comfortable beds, house was well insulated so we couldn’t hear anyone below us or in the bedrooms at night. Kitchen and baths were roomy and also fully furnished. Awesome location with great restaurants nearby and convenient a large number of Portland activities. Michelle and Klaus were super hosts, offering lots of great suggestions. Highly recommend!

Perfect location for our Portland exploration!

We spend the holidays in this lovely and well equipped home. Lots of room to spread out, and the 6 of us never felt cramped even with the snow and ice in Portland the first few days that kept us inside more than we expected. Kitchen was perfect for preparing our holiday meals, and the living room provided the space to watch our December tradition of the Great British Baking Show. Loved the neighborhood. Great options for food and drink, and the people were always friendly. Portland is a winner! We will certainly try to visit again.

Cute house, fun area!

We loved staying! House is very cute, with plenty of space. The neighborhood has tons of shopping and restaurants. My only small suggestion for improvement is with the key box: 1. The box itself is very difficult to open/close, and 2. It would be great to get 2 Keys. We had a group of 5 adults so an extra key would have made coming and going easier. We would stay again if ever in Portland.

Wonderful family stay

The location and setup were absolutely perfect! We enjoyed every aspect of our stay in this great house EXCEPT for difficulty managing the heating. My husband and I slept upstairs and because it was winter, the weather was pretty cold. In order for the children and grandchildren sleeping downstairs to stay warm, we roasted upstairs. So we opened the window (which let in the considerable street noise), shut the damper in the bedroom and the bathroom and yet we had alternating bouts of chill from the window and excessive heat from the heater. Not good. If this issue can be successfully addressed, we would recommend the house to anyone any time.

Big group; great accommodations and location!

We were a large group in town celebrating a wedding, few of us having stayed for extended periods of time under the same roof (even though we're all family, which may have been more challenging). The location couldn't have been better. (It was so thoughtful of Alberta neighborhood to arrange their annual street fair during our stay!) I understand that the house now has AC, but the lack of same during our stay wasn't problematic. There was a bit of noise (construction) at night and early morning, and Michelle, having mysteriously heard about it, delivered earplugs and wine the next day! Very thoughtful. The arrangement of sleeping spaces made us feel appropriately separated. The kitchen was well appointed. Everyone in our group (California, Chicago, Michigan, Oregon, Colorado) loved this house, and we would return without hesitation. Many thanks, Michelle!

Cozy house and amazing neighborhood

This house is exactly as advertised. It was wonderful. The neighborhood is busy with great restaurants and shops, which we loved. We spent a lot of time outside at the picnic and ping pong tables.I would highly recommend!

Great space for our group of 7 adults passing through Portland. The place made us wish we could stay longer! The space is great, the neighborhood has nice food options, and it's easy to get around by car.

Gorgeous Alberta Home

This property was absolutely gorgeous and felt so homey. My family of 7 adults had ample room to relax, have our daily coffee gatherings and even a chat session in the outside garden. The location was a dream; lots of coffee shops, bars, restaurants --- the walkability was 10 out of 10! Would absolutely stay here again!

Complete Alberta Arts district experience!

Safe and comfy, this central spot gives you a good home base and makes it easy to not only get around but fully experience all of what the Alberta arts district has to offer. Everyone in my group, young to old, loved something about our stay. The owners were easy to talk to, quick to answer, and very understanding. Would definitely stay again

Great location with space for all of us.

The property looked small at first, but exceeded my expectations. I was also a little worried that it was on a busy street, but I had the most restful sleep there of our entire vacation. Great neighborhood with good restaurants and interesting shops. I would stay there again. Parking on the street was subject to availability, but we were lucky.

You can’t pick a better property in Portland

It’s in the Alberta Arts district. You cannot pick a better location or property. We loved every thing about it. We were a group of 7. Mix of kids, teenagers and adults. Lots of amazing restaurants around- and good options for skip or Uber eats for late night delivery.

Thanksgiving trip to see our family

We rented this house to spend a long weekend over thanksgiving break with our family in Portland. It was a wonderful location, cool artsy vibe, and plenty of room for everyone. The owners have done a wonderful job remodeling this classic Gem. We will be back. Thank you!

Myself and my Dutch husband, Klaas, are obsessed with travel, design, nature, hiking, and biking....We have combined all of these things into our vacation rental business. During our travels we constantly note what makes things feel unique and special and then incorporate them into our location. We want our guests to feel super comfortable. We can do this by making sure the kitchen is fully stocked, linens and towels are high quality, internet is high speed, the house is super clean. We also want people to feel that they are in Portland, not just anywhere. We do that by using locally made materials in the construction (tiles, flooring, art work), providing lots of info and books about the area, creating an insiders guide of our favorite places, and we have collaborated with locally owned shops who give discounts to our guests.

Why they chose this property

I think our rental has many unique areas- from a large side yard filled with interesting kids structures to corn hole which is a game that friends can play and enjoy for hours. Inside the house has bike themed interiors from hanging tricycle lights to handle bar coat racks. We wanted the house to be comfortable for guests, so details such as reading lights above the beds were put in every room. We hope you love your stay!
