Perfect for a romantic retreat or family holidays. The home is 2 levels. This Oceanfront Home located directly on the Caribbean, with a secluded natural beach. This listing is for downstairs 2-BR/1BA apartment featuring: private entrance, covered veranda facing the sea, thatched roof palapa at the end of 100 feet pier to relax at the sea and watch wild life up-close, high speed internet WIFI, air conditioning, large fully equipped kitchen, and a laundry room with modern washer and dryer.
Tastefully decorated and upgraded with Mahogany wood cabinets, doors, furniture and local art. Both units have access to a separate laundry room with washer and dryer, outdoor BBQ, and a private pier with thatched roof covered palapa.
Feel the ocean breeze and enjoy the beautiful Caribbean water on your own secluded beachfront or explore the wonders of Belize. Located just south of the Resort Area and the Village of Hopkins. Shallow Bay Beach House is within a short distance from Restaurants and Bars, Golf Cart, Motorcycle Rentals, and shops. Diving, Fishing, Snorkeling and Sailing, hiking, zip lining in the Maya Mountains.

If you are looking for complete privacy ask us how to reserve the entire property with this unit. The other upstairs unit is 1br/1ba and often occupied by owner. When available it can be rented or blocked for a small daily fee.

Reita and Rich were terrific hosts and this property is quiet and in a picturesque waterfront location. While we were there for work on our land, it was nice to have a comfortable, quiet, and relaxing place to bed down. lounging in the hammock on the porch with the sea breeze was a nice way to end a busy day!

Perfect vacation base

Gorgeous, comfortable house, wonderful back deck with hammock and ocean views. Hopkins is an ideal base for visiting nearby protected areas (Cockscomb Basin, Mayflower Bocawina etc) as well as for accessing the Cayes and reef . Bedroom a/c; internet; blender; coffee maker all worked perfectly - everything we needed. We will definitely stay here again when we come back to Belize.

OUTSTANDING

We've stayed here before and the house is gorgeous. They provide everything you could need. We had an unusual problem and Jeanette, the property manager, went above and beyond to help us out. There's no other place we would consider staying when we're in Hopkins.

Super Private Paradise!

I stayed with my husband and toddler and it was amazing! The water off the dock was only about thigh/waist deep which was perfect for us, but did get deeper further out. We even got to see manatees! When the ocean was too rough we swam at jaguar reef (just spend $25 (usd) per adult and you can swim!) It was an easy drive to all the local places. Hopkins was friendly and laid back.

We just loved our visit here. It worked perfectly for us. It’s just enough out of town that it’s quiet, but was still accessible to town by bike, which was perfect for us as we like quiet peace and a little exercise :-)! It really helped that. The properties on either side have not yet been developed and so you had a nice green barrier between the neighbors on either side

A Beautiful, clean, well equipped vacation home!

We spent 5 fantastic weeks at Shallow Bay Beach House! The inside is beautifully furnished with everything you need. The outside is a perfect place to spend hot afternoons in the sun and sea, or lounge in the hammock in the shade of the covered deck. The breeze is perfect to keep you cool while enjoying the gorgeous yard. Close to the lovely town of Hopkins, where you can find plenty to do! From the time we booked last March until our vacation ended Rita and Steve were always very helpful and willing to do whatever they could to make our stay perfect. And it was!! We will be back!!

Dan (North Carolina ) Great stay in Belize Beautiful beachfront home with gorgeously landscaped lot on the Caribbean! The home was very clean, spacious and well appointed. Laundry room conveniently located with modern washer and dryer. Very private and quiet, but close to shopping and local restaurants. Stay included free wifi, air conditioned bedrooms, beautiful large bathroom and full kitchen with local water you could drink from the tap. Steady breeze off the ocean kept home cool, covered patio with hammock, outdoor eating area and steps from the ocean made this a perfect vacation spot. Great for romantic get away or family stay. We loved it here. We are considering buying property now in the area.

Hopkins is beautiful and after staying at Shallow Bay, we too would like to own a little piece of paradise. The house is as advertised. The owners are very nice and helpful. The location is awesome. Lots of animals as well. We enjoyed watching them. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and hope to stay in touch with the owners if we do end up purchasing nearby next year.

Perfect vacation house

The house is better than the pictures and the pictures are very good. This place is beautiful. Very well furnished and they remembered the little things. The neighborhood was very quiet and while out enjoying the dock and water we never saw another person. Having the W/D was also a big plus. We highly recommend this house and will be back in two years and plan on renting it again. We've now found the perfect place to stay when we come to our favorite place in Belize. Thank you for letting us use your house.

lovely area. lovely town and culture. house was comfortable and had what you needed. water was great except for the seaweed -not owners fault. just from the shape of the bay. will come back and hopefully the sargassum will not be there.

Private paradise

We had an amazing time in this clean, well kept, and cutely decorated beach house. The property spoiled us with its filtered faucet water, gas stove/oven, cable TV (even though we didn't really use it- checked out the local news), AC, and private dock. The beds and pillows were also comfortable! Its a close bike or car ride to the village. Rita and Jannete were available to answer any questions we had about getting around and local happenings. Hopkins is one of our favorite vacations spots due to the chill and friendly people. This rental just made Belize that much more enjoyable with its ease of use the owners provided. I would definitely recommend renting from Shallow Bay Beach House since they are so great about communication and even provide a local guide for the stay.

Great place to explore South Belize

The house is really nice, good size rooms, wood finishings, nice garden and a great dock with covered area. There is no ‘beach’ as such. Swimming from the dock after a day of exploring is a massive asset. Jeanette made live very easy for us, organising tours. Diving at Glovers Reef with Belize Underwater was a great experience, as was the snorkelling off the first reef. Make sure you have a car to explore the region, it’s beautiful!

Shallow Bay was better than the pics. The house was really clean with well maintained yard. It was very relaxing to have meals on the picnic bench. As the name implies, the bay is very shallow - you can walk out several hundred yards and be no more than waste deep which was great for kids.

Great house with just a few minor issues.

We stayed here with our friends and had a very nice time. The house was VERY spacious, well appointed and well decorated. The caretaker, Janette, and her "crew" Alex, Gregorio and a few others were very attentive to our needs. When we arrived, the smell of the seaweed was a bit pungent and very strong. Not the owners fault but still tough to handle in the house. When on the deck, you couldn't smell is as the beautiful breeze coming off the ocean kept that smell at bay. The seaweed made it impossible to get into the water without walking on or through it and it got worse as the week went one. The groundskeepers did their absolute best to keep it off the beach, to no avail. Again, not the owners fault but still tough to handle at times. Also, there was a lot of garbage that washed up on shore, plastice cups, lightbulbs and all kinds of other trash. Not sure where that was coming from but even during a day trip to Placencia the trash in the beach was crazy! Again, our stay was very pleasurable overall. One issue we had inside the house was ants. At first there were just a few each day. Then they got a bit more numerous. Again, Janette sent someone out right away to spray outside the house and Alex then gave me a can of spray if I wanted to spray inside. I did spray and WOW the ants came marching out of their hiding places in force! We spent a solid 2 hours spraying and vacuuming up the ants that were crawling out underneath the kitchen cabinet. Once we did that we barely saw anymore the entire rest of our stay. Gregorio, a groundskeeper was amazing. He cust down a few coconuts that were ripe, we drank coconut water and then scooped out the meat of the coconut and ate it throughout the week. Everyone we came in contact with was so nice and helpful. Janette, recommended Luckie for a snorkeling trip and we were NOT disappointed. Just a short drive to Luckie's boat launch and we were on our way. Other things we loved... A/C units in bedrooms, hammock, deck, porch, firepit which we grilled on several times! Beautiful, clean, inviting landscaping. House was so comfortable to stay in. Again, I thought this house was very nice, and besides the issues addressed in this review (some which were NOT the owners fault) we enjoyed ourselves tremendously. Would highly recommend.

Unfortunately the seaweed situation was unusually bad during your stay and we apologize for the inconvenience of the Seaweed in our beach, this is an epidemic that is going on all around the Caribbean. All countries across the Caribbean are struggling to deal with the unusually large amounts of Sargassum seaweed that are being washed up on many beaches this season year. We would like to invite you to stay with us again after the seaweed leaves our shore and offer you a credit for your next stay. Please contact us for details.

Beautiful house, difficult hosts

Beautiful place, lovely beach and amenities and the owners negotiated on price. That said, the hosts were difficult. They said we left a stain on a beach towel that we did not use, and charged us $50 for that. Then they started cleaning the apartment half an hour before our agreed checkout time. We felt chased out when the host came in as we were getting out of the shower and were preparing to leave. After we disputed the charges for the towel she admitted that the stain was probably from a bug spray that she used on an ant infestation that we found when we arrived, but she still asked us to pay for half the towel.

We like to provide our guests with a high quality experience at an affordable price. You seem like a nice couple and we were happy to see you enjoying the beach, our kitchen and using our outdoor grill. We love it when guests enjoy the amenities we provide. We also remember that when you were checking out of the property, you were very happy and we chatted in the driveway about your good experience. Regarding your review, we apologize that you felt chased out and left 15 minutes earlier than your negotiated check out time, however you must remember that we negotiated a discount with you on our pricing for checking out before 10:00am, as we had an inspection scheduled that day at that time. We asked you the night before if it would be OK to come into the unit a little before 10:00 to set up a new television set, and you agreed. Before we entered, we knocked and asked your permission to enter and you agreed. We were just there for a few minutes. The cleaning service did not arrive until after 10:00 am. If you felt like we intruded, again we apologize, as we would never want a guest to feel this way. Nonetheless, as a result of this, we have changed our reservation policy to allow more time between check ins and allow our guests to enjoy their last day without stressing out about the checkout time deadline. In addition to the early check out discount, you also negotiated with us to lower the cleaning fee and to remove the damage insurance protection in exchange for a refundable deposit. When you checked out we found a tray of open food and fish in the refrigerator. We had to deep clean the refrigerator and freezer to get rid of the fish odor. We found the stained beach towel tossed in a pile with used towels in the hallway. We tried but could not remove the stain, so as a result we had to replace that towel for the next guests. We understand that accidents happen and that is what a damage deposit is for. As you negotiated away the damage insurance fee for the refundable deposit, we split the cost of the towel with you and charged you only $25. We hate having to do this, but without this sort of protection, we would not be able to offer affordable accommodations to our guests. By the way, this was the first time we had ever had to charge a guest for damage. Despite all this, we gave both of you a positive review as guests.

Excellent vacation home!

Shallow Bay Beach House is a beautiful, private, comfortable place for a relaxing vacation. Rita made sure we had everything we needed during our stay. Comfortable beds, fully equipped kitchen, beautiful view, relaxing hammock...Shallow Bay Beach House has everything! Make sure you bring some mineral oil to keep away sand flies so you can enjoy the beautiful deck on the bay.

Quiet and peaceful, spacious beach house.

We recommend this for a relaxing vacation when you want to spend time in a real home. I went with my grown daughters and we enjoyed the space and the freedom to hang out here. The house is well organized and we had everything we needed, including ceiling fans in every room. The home is beautiful and the view over the water is superb. We went to a farmer's market before arriving and this worked well to bring all the food we wanted at arrival. Rita, the owner, was extraordinarily helpful, giving us advice and driving us into town to rent a golf cart. You need transport to get around Hopkins. It is too hot for walking very far. The water is warm, shallow and wonderful for walking out into. We chose to scuba dive with Seemore Adventures while we were in Hopkins. There are also wonderful places to eat out in Hopkins especially Geckos Restaurant.

Incredible stay at the Shallow Bay Beach House

We had a wonderful time at the Beach house. We stayed in the ground floor unit, falling asleep to the waves lapping on the carribean shore and awaking to the trade winds and sounds of birds. This house is a perfect distance between town and the marina on the Sitte river. It is peaceful and quiet and still close to all amenities. Rita and her husband Steve were kind and helpful. We would highly recommend their little slice of paradise.

This home adorned with handcrafted stain glass and rich mahogany woodwork; has a spacious living room with fully equipped kitchen and dining area, and a roomy bathroom with a large mosaic shower. The east-facing walls have large glass windows and french double doors, keeping the sea always in view and letting the ocean breeze in.
