About the host
Hosted by Peter DeWalt
Toby and Peter, are Super Hosts with over 2,300 5-star reviews, they look forward to hosting you at The Appleton Retreat. (Check out their guest reviews by searching The Appleton Retreat.)
Peter and Toby thought they were retired. The couple sailed their boat WHIZZBANG from Maine to New Zealand and while there traveled around North and South Island, staying at several memorable vacation rentals. A great adventure for sure and the seed of thought was planted to create their own vacation rental to host.
After returning to the States they relocated from Massachusetts to Portland Maine to be closer to their kids and live in a thriving, diversified city. They renovated a very cool historic building at 141 Spring Street planning to live in the Studio apartment. However, it wasn’t long before the two realized they needed a “MISSION”. So, call it crazy, they purchased a contemporary log home, located on 120 acres of land in the tiny town of Appleton, and got to work.
As The Appleton Retreat began to consume most of the couple’s time and energy excursions to Portland became less and less frequent. It was a difficult decision to part with the building in Portland, that they had worked so hard to restore, but it was time. Toby and Peter welcome you to head down east to the mid-coast for a getaway at The Appleton Retreat. You may now choose which of the 7-unique retreats suits you best to enjoy a memorable, relaxing time away from the outside world.(All retreats are named after brands of apples, if you hadn’t guessed!)
