About the host
Hosted by Ross Gordon

Hi, I’m Ross. My family and I live in the Chicago area, and over the years, we’ve built a deep appreciation for places that feel truly personal — the kind of spaces where you can slow down, reconnect, and create lasting memories.
We purchased this property as a private family getaway — a place where we could get away from the pace of everyday life and simply enjoy nature, our kids, and good company. We never planned on renting it out full-time, and we still don’t. A few times each year, when the timing is right, we open it up to guests who appreciate privacy, natural beauty, and real character.
Hosting, for me, is about more than logistics — it’s about helping other families and groups experience the kind of memorable weekends and simple joys that our family has found here. I want every guest to feel like they’re stepping into something meaningful, not just booking another property.
If you love the outdoors, appreciate authentic spaces, and enjoy relaxing by a fire after a day of adventure, there’s a good chance you’ll love it here as much as we do.

Why they chose this property
We fell in love with this location because it offers the best of both worlds: true seclusion and nature, but still close to everything you need.
Our home sits on 15 private acres, bordered on two sides by Chain O’Lakes State Park. From the house and decks, you get beautiful elevated views of Turner Lake and the surrounding woods, often with deer, hawks, and turkeys wandering by.
Despite feeling tucked away, we’re less than 15 minutes from boat launches, hiking trails, small-town shops, great restaurants, and seasonal fairs. Lake Geneva is an easy drive, and even downtown Chicago is under an hour and a half away when you want a day trip or city experience.
What I personally love most is the pace here. You can walk the trails, kayak the lakes, grab ice cream in town, sit around a fire, and hear nothing but the breeze through the trees at night. It’s a rare mix of peaceful escape and easy access to activities, and that’s exactly what drew us in — and still keeps us coming back.

What makes this property unique
Our property stands out because it’s not a manufactured vacation rental — it’s a real home, created for real living.
Everything here was designed for our family first: the furniture, the layout, the trails, the cozy spots to watch sunsets or drink coffee in the sunroom. We didn’t cut corners furnishing it because it wasn’t meant to be a business — it was meant to be a getaway worth driving to.
The 15 acres offer true privacy. You’re not in a subdivision or sharing space with dozens of other rentals. You have fields, trails, forest, wildlife, and access to water all around you. It’s the kind of place where you can lose track of time — kids running across the field, music by the firepit, soaking in the saltwater hot tub under the stars.
Plus, the small details — the heated floors in the bathroom, the built-in surround sound, the waterfall pond feature — combine rustic charm with simple luxury.
We love that this place still feels authentic. It’s a little wild around the edges. It’s not perfect. It’s better than that: it’s real.
