We are happy you are interested in our beloved cottage!
This lake house is not your typical vacation rental. This really is Grandma and Grandpa’s country home away from home for 55 years, and they love having all their old stuff full of memories still there. They are a simple couple that grew up in hard times, now 95! So they don’t buy new things often, and are comfortable with stained beach towels. We focus on the experience and time together rather than material things.
So with that being said we have not replaced the bedding, rugs, or TV. Everything is throughly cleaned and disinfected, even fresh paint!; but it is all still old stuff, that still works!
There is no A/C, but there are plenty of windows and each room has at least one fan in it. There is heat.
There is plenty of space for your belongings when you check in. At least the top 2 drawers in all rooms are clean and empty. Each bed has its own light and outlet close enough to not get up from the multiple pillows provided.
The other thing you should know is that the water is high in iron and always has been, and since the cottage is closed up for the winter you will see rust in toilets and sinks slightly. I assure you it is fine to shower and wash dishes and clothes, but please do bring drinking water.
Even though it’s an old county cottage it is a 2 min walk to the beautiful lake in a safe, private and friendly community with plenty of room for the whole family, a huge yard and many amenities to help you enjoy your vacation; like bikes, balls, lake toys, board games, full working and stocked kitchen, and a working Apple TV on our old school TV!

We were charmed by this rustic sweet cabin. Definitely old-fashioned, but spacious with several sleep options. This is not the spot if you are looking for fancy or upscale, but we appreciated that this is a beloved old family cabin. The location is perfect if you like walking and exploring right at your front door.

About the host
Hosted by Dave & CJ
We are a NYC family with this country lake house for 55 years. G-ma and G-pa were hesitant to rent it out because they didn't want to clean out all of their precious memories. Now we need help with 95 year old medical bills and I have cleaned out the space to allow new guests to feel at home. At home is how you will feel in this beloved cottage, not a fancy vacation rental, but a useful getaway to the beautiful lake.
Why they chose this property
Slow down the dirt road with little unique homes down each winding street. It's local longtime families and pleasant neighbors meeting at the beach which is only a 2 min walk down a path next to the creek. It's very quiet, peaceful, and safe. There is a big front and back yard for the kids to play off the street, many neighborhood loops to explore on walks and jogs, and a quick drive to the quaint towns on Lenox and Stockbridge for a nice meal.
What makes this property unique

This really is Grandma and Grandpa’s country home away from home for 55 years, and they love having all their old stuff full of memories still there. They are a simple couple that grew up in hard times, now 95! So they don’t buy new things often, and are comfortable with stained beach towels. You can watch a VHS, DVD or Apply TV on the old school TV. You can listen to an actual record with great speakers. You can read a book that G-pa wrote, and enjoy the artwork that G-ma painted with her time over the years in Beachwood. You can feel the history in this beloved home.
