Just stopping through before reaching our destination up north but wish we could’ve stayed longer! The location was beautiful, the sunset over the lake was spectacular and the sauna was a bonus!
Loved it. Our 4th summer. Bummed they are going to start reserving the whole point as one unit but I understand. Hopefully we can stay there again someday.
We loved this cabin! It was perfect for our family of four. The lake is beautiful and quiet during the week, with a nice swimming beach on the property. The cabin had multiple USB chargers, and nightstands on both sides of the king bed. There are NEVER two nightstands, so this was very well thought out. The fridge is small as advertised, so we just kept drinks in a cooler outside. Not a problem at all, especially if you had a shorter stay. I really enjoyed sitting in the shade, reading my book while the kids swam. My brother rented the cabin next door, making it a fabulous family week. I highly recommend it!
Property was beautiful and as described online. After 2 different situations with the owner will likely never be back which makes me sad because the property was gorgeous and my kids had a great time.
Be sure when you’re renting from her with a pet, be sure VRBO brings your search requirements. During my search I included my dog but unfortunately that didn’t carry over when booking. Probably a click error when I booked. She was extremely rude regarding that when it was an honest mistake and all she needed to do was bill me for the pet fee. Also when checking in I arrived at 1:00p(acknowledged I was early) asked if the cabin was ready. I was advised “the cleaners have until 2:45p but happen to be done early, so I could check in early”. My interactions with her were very poor and ruined my experience.
What a great cabin, on the waters edge with a great host! With boats to use and your own personal dock, you can spend time enjoying nature to its fullest. The beds are nice and comfy and there is plenty of space to hang out indoors if you really want to. The charcoal grill and fire pit were a nice add on too.
Very comfortable and wonderful lake views. We stayed for three nights and were very comfortable. We appreciated how close the cabin is to the Suomi Hills ski trails. The kitchen is well-equipped and we also were thankful for the gas fireplace. Very quiet and cozy. Thank you!
We haven't been anywhere since March of 2020. Emily was amazing to work with about our stay from reservations to checking in. It was so nice to get away. We met up with some family from up North and they had stayed at the cabin last year and suggested the cabins to us. It was a very relaxing holiday!
My husband and I wanted a nice, quiet and peaceful weekend and that is exactly what we got here! Just serene and breath taking! We rented during the 2nd week of November, so expected snow and cold- but my oh my the cabin can hold heat! There were even times we had to turn the heat down as it held all the heat so nicely! The cabins are very clean as well! Pictures do no justice for the cabins as they are soooo much better in real life! Emily and her husband are very great hosts and are quick to respond to any questions/concerns, which we really appreciated! Long story short, you do not want to skip out on this cabin, you won't regret it!
3rd year in a row, even the rain couldn't ruin our trip
The weather wasn't ideal, but with all the activities provided at this cabin, we were never without something to do. Kayakin, Maui Mat, swim beach, the "Magic Dock" for fishing, the friendly family, everything was just as awesome as it has been the last 2 years. We will be back for a 4th for sure!
We had the most wonderful stay at this charming cabin on Prairie Lake. The hosts were amazing and provided everything needed for a home away from home experience. We especially enjoyed using the kayak, paddle board and Maui Mat.vWe are planning on returning next Summer!
Thanks Bujolds for everything!!
We have been to Emily and James place over the past several years during hunting season. It is a cozy cabin overlooking a beautiful lake and is perfect for us! Emily and James have thought of everything you might need and are truly the perfect hosts!
We would highly recommend this cabin!
Property is even cuter than advertised. Loved cozying up by the fireplace. Perfect size for a couple or small family. Plenty to do nearby including the mesabi bike trail and the scenic drives north into Chippewa National Forest
Just when we needed to get out of the house for a bit, we were very lucky to find this property with openings for the time we wanted. We stayed a week and were very happy with the accommodations, the friendliness of the owners (and their children), the kayaking and hiking and swimming. My 3 year old daughter was sad that she had to leave and "missed" the cabins before we even got into the car.
Loved the place. Felt like your own little island. Even with the neighbors and owners so close it still felt like we had the privacy we wanted. Great stay!
We enjoyed our stay! It was exactly as pictured and has everything you need. We enjoyed the amenities and nearby hiking trails. We have children of all ages and were able to keep them all entertained with the water activities. We plan to come back again!
We enjoyed this getaway vacation. This place is so very peaceful and the owner is great to work with. Hope to be back soon.

About the host
Hosted by Emily Bujold
After living in afar in Australia, Micronesia, and Japan and nearby in Wisconsin and Minneapolis, in busy urban centers and quietly afloat in the Pacific, the water was our grounding, our inspiration, and our source of renewal. Shortly after starting our family we began our mission to find a place on the water. After extensive searching, we realized it was just a short paddle across the lake from James’ childhood home here on Prairie Lake. We invite you to share this special place with us and soak up all the goodness the Northwoods has to offer.
Why they chose this property
We love how close we are to everything while still feeling away from it all. We have lakeshore in all directions, access to water that beckons adventure throughout the seasons, a humbling connection with the wildlife, and a peaceful place to spend time with friends and family.
We're just five miles from shops and dining in downtown Grand Rapids to the south and less than 10 miles from the National Forest to the north. Entrance to the Taconite Trail and Mesabi Trail, one of the longest paved trails in the nation, is less than two miles away. Access to numerous, well-maintained cross-country ski trails within 15 minutes. Direct access to the nearest snowmobile trail via the lake. The bait shop, convenience store and public boat access are just a half mile away.
What makes this property unique
Prairie Lake is a calm lake with little boat traffic. It really is a treasure for paddle sports, fishing, sunset pontoon rides and other passive activities, with quiet shorelines and places for exploration, such as small bays and The Gorge. And when you do want to get out water skiing, you have the place to yourself.
